2007 AZ Straight Pool Challenge!

TheSlimDigit,
I'm not so sure. I will say though that I had no real tough shots in 57 balls. The last rack was just evil; several tough clusters to get to. I successfully got the clusters apart but could not get a breakshot; I just shot off the last ball and opened up the champagne.

My shotmaking has improved a lot the past few weeks; I'm hopeful that if I keep working on my stroke (lots of room for improvement) I can collect an extra brew from you (I believe right now I owe you one, and you owe me one) before next year. I think if I could play on a loose table with new cloth I could possibly get to 75 before next year (of course I also thought Saddam was a lock to win the Nobel Peace Prize).

WillieBreakUp,

Just missed a pretty easy shot in the side with perfect setup and break ball waiting on 96 tonight.

now that hurts, my first attempt since my 121 though so feel like can make 100's consistently now. I think if I didnt have to work and played for a few days straight I could post a big score. Sunday tomorrow though so see if two days in a row helps!

TheUnitaryValue,
Very strong. I watched your video; the balls seem to break apart fairly easily (though of course you may just be hitting them harder). Is your cloth fairly new (my old cloth really makes breaking the rack difficult)? Also how big are your pockets (just informational; not trying to imply anything; it looks very much like the Gold Crowns; very nice)?

Table is ex EuroTour TV table. I think it plays medium tight, pocket speed its ok but anything at pace down the rail doesnt go in unless spot on.

I'm no pocket expert but just got my ruler our (steady!). Pocket 5" at the front, 4" at the lip with just over 2" between the front and the lip (hope that makes sense I just made the terms up!). Compared to the Gabriels they used at the worlds it's like playing on a Snooker table! :p

The cloth sadly is very warn and needs replacing. It still has major track marks and dimples from 9 ball breaks etc as it was used for the whole tournament. :(

The table is tapped although it needs doing again so most balls in the rack are touching but I do hit them hard.

Definitely looks like a nice table, except for the metal rails. I prefer Diamonds and Gabriels, because on GCs I'm afraid to form a proper rail bridge from the corner because it'll scratch the shaft.

I like the choice of cloth color, too. Doesn't look like it plays too slow, but you've got a nice power stroke so that may account for that... maybe all the snooker did you some good after all!

Curious: I was at the 14.1 WC last year (met you briefly here and there, too if you remember. Not surprised if you don't). Do you think your table will play looser than those Gabriels when you put new cloth on it?

One more Q: Do you play on Simonis? If so, do you prefer the 760 or 860?

Of course I remember Steven! I'm afraid I didn't have much say in most things I chose this table a) because it was good price, and b) because I knew I was only going to be using it for 6 months. I like the cloth color def but it came with it. I loved the gabriels and the conditions at the WC were amazing, there's no way this table would play that loose but I'd def swap if for a gabriel when I settle in a more perm location. The cloth is simonis, again I'm no expert Im afraid and prob couldn't even tell you which one it is!

Craig, I managed to sneak in a race to 150 tonight and ran 63 along the way.

Yours most sincerely, SJM

And great it was to watch too! Never once out of line.

Ladies and gentleman (and WillieBetMore)

we have a new leader, Mr Harryman with a fantastic 202! Just a note that somebody else passed this info on because Danny was too modest to shout about it! Well done Danny.

PS
Great target now for anyone in the 100's aspiring to break 200, Mr Lipsky? ;)

Great run Danny! Although its pretty depressing that I run 130+ and I end up in 4th place at the beginning February. lol. I haven't run over 70-75 balls in the last few weeks - so I believe its all downhill from here.

Congrats on all the great runs so far everyone... willie, sjm, blackjack, danny, and others have posted some awesome numbers!

As for me, Craig, I'm barely playing anymore. Since Amsterdam changed locations, they've been so busy. Great for them, not so great for me :(. It's so tough to get a table, no matter the day of the week.

I ran a 75 a couple weeks ago, but if I've played 10 games of straight pool since the new year, I'd be really surprised. It's depressing.

updated list, looking forward to seeing ANC Steve, sounds good even if busy. Would you say overall its a better location now, it was excellent before so kinda sad it changed locations.

Does it matter what size the table? I have a 6ft bar box at home which is the only place I could get some quality straight pool sessions in.

Hi Six, I assume most people are on 9fts but give it a go and I'll add u to the list with a side note. At the end of the day its just a bit of fun to get more people playing 14.1 and trying to beat their best. :)

Hey Craig,

For drivers, it's definitely better, because parking is so much better downtown. They also did a wonderful job with the room; it really looks amazing. The tables are playing great, too, with a nice enclosed area for the front two house tables.

Again, the only downside is they did too good of a job! They're so successful down there that it's often hard to get a table.

It doesn't change my place on the list, but I knocked in 141 today (February 14). With runs like that, I feel as if I am playing as well or better than most of the guys that will be at the World Championships this year. Any word on the location of that Texas qualifier?

Very Nice

Blackjack,
Very nice run. Your hitting two balls in for each one of mine. lol

Best Regards,
Hal2

141 in 14.1 on the 14th. Did you make the run at 1:41? Happy Valentine's Day, Blackjack.

Way to go David... set up a video camera next time you play and share!
