A real creep

I like Grady since the first time I met him, he has a bit of a short fuse and thats cool-thats Grady. We all know what he has accomplished in pool and he has a ton of heart.

But I will give grady some advice, and I'mnot out of line giving this advice(its about the only thing in pool I can give him advice on). Grady I dont want to piss you off, this isnt a insult. There is something wrong with your health, you constantly move side to side and one stroke 90% of your shots, you never did this before. I'm sure your aware of it. The reason I can give this adviceis after 5 back operations and little success my health gets in the way of me playing consistantly at my level. Some days I can others I cant even play or I jump out of shots because of pain-and we all know what that does....Grady tou dont appear to be healthy and playing might not be the best idea, of course I say this after losing $23,000 last month-perhaps I should listen to my own advice.

Also my deepest condolences for Randi, she was a lovely lady who I got to know well in a very short period of time, and I feel the loss, I cant imagine how you must feel. She was just wonderful in so many ways.

PS if you do the bank ring game next year i'm in, I cant win but I have a goal in that game.

I'm going to get out of line. Not for the first time, but here goes anyway.

Grady Mathews is a living pool legend. His accomplishments and contributions to the sport are immeasurable. I guarantee you, that if you have watched any of the matches he commentated on for Accu-Stats, you probably learned something that has helped your game, won you a match, or made you some dough.

Grady is from a different era, that perhaps sadly, no longer exists in pool. And it's tough to let that go. In addition, I'm guessing the vast majority of you here know that Grady is now looking at things through a prism colored by recent events that would have brought most of us to our knees.

All of you will do and write your comments as you see fit. And that's as it should be. But, just maybe, before you post a demeaning post in this thread, no matter how deserved you think it might be, maybe you'll let it slide just this once.

Lou Figueroa

I'm with you and don't mind cutting Grady some slack.

It's all about respect !

Grady might be overreacting a lil but It's truly how he see's it so instead of dogging the man out why not just say nothing or at least be respectful to your elder & just say....I didn't see it the same way...Just amazes me how the lack of respect goes hand in hand with the ages of the posters

Myself i still greet any of my elders as sir or maam & If I see a elder venting like Grady is obviously doing..I let them because after this many years they got ahead of me they deserve it.

All I'm gonna say to Grady is I'm sorry the trip turned out to not be fun cuz that's what life is all about anyway....I've lost money before but still had a good time as well as won money and wish ida never bet..for whatever reason..just my 2 cents.

I'm not too sure that he is aware of his condition. It could be that he thinks everything is ok because he was asking why people kept asking him if he was ok.

Grady

" Those who expect.... Want. Those who want... Need. Those that need....Lose there POWER, to get what they WANT, when they NEED it"

OMGWTF-JFC-DSF----Holey schmoley!!! Did Grady think he was in a Baptist Church or something?? When he was there did he say a little prayer for everyboy and shake a little holy water around? Oh, after the long trip he went to Kolby's to practice a little bit. He can never get enough practice. Maybe he was going to work on his CTE. HE WENT TO KOLBY"S TO ROB SOMEONE WHO MIGHT HOLD HIM IN AWE.

How's this for a new sign outside Kolby's:

Kolby's Church of the Sacred One-Hole and the Holy Ghost Ball.

Minister: Preacher Ronn

Whine over losing a beer or a buck or a grand. Same thing. He's a nit.

Have to agree with Fatboy on this - there is something wrong with Grady physically. That may be affecting other things as well.

Most of us will be nits some day. I am already getting nittish:(.

I don't know about moving side to side, but Grady's been one-stroking his shots at least since I first saw him play back in the mid-eighties.

I can agree to the posters wanting to cut Grady slack but come on nobody can have a free pass for whatever. Sure, he is a legend and 99% of us will never experience that level of pool. But that doesn't make anyone immune from acting out of line and it getting ignored.

You cannot cut someone slack for making the game, the bet, then being pissed when it didnt turn out his way. That is absurd. I think everyone would have cut him slack hearing about his loss, those guys shoot sick 1P no big deal loosing. But to twist it around and make it everyone elses fault is not right either. It is one thing to respect an individual an there career, but you also have to be honest with yourself and treat that person accordingly to their actions.

i'm a big fan of Grady. if i had to pick one player who i've learned a lot from without ever really meeting him it'd be grady.

we all book loser but to be honest if you didn't want to gamble you shouldn't have. hit the ball alone if you can't find someone who wants to practice with you

Grady

Grady,

You had a choice to play or not play. The decision was all yours. Don't blame others. They knew you were there for a $3,000 match and wanted a piece of the cash.

You have a well deserved reputation as a gambler. Do you now want to become a mark? Maybe it's time to devout your full time to instruction to help up-coming players play better. Your knowledge and experience now exceed your physical game - my suggestion is to now share it and retire from the action scene.

Chris

Well stated.

Grady,

I love you and respect you more than almost any other pro....
Dave

Me as well.

What should have been a great time for all involved turned out to be something less than that, for many reasons. But still, the bottom line for me is that I'm a Grady Mathews fan for life. Period.

And John Henderson, congrats to you on your victory as well as the very classy post you left in this thread! What a gentleman!!

And Grady, as I posted over at 1P.org, you're STILL a legendary champion and "ever thus shall it be!" One defeat late in your career does nothing to tarnish your great accomplishments. I'm looking forward to still rooting for you in future matches.

Jimmy,

You and Lou are correct. Some folks are too quick to kick someone when they are down. I just repped Lou and sent him a private note. I couldn't rep you again yet so I'll go ahead and post.

Hu

I can't rep Jimmy again yet either, but I'm gonna go give some good rep to Lou as well. I meant to earlier but got side-tracked. It'll be on behalf of the "United With Jmmy G Rep Fund" :)

I am not the best player in town but when I gamble and lose, it was my decision. STOP CRYING !!

Holy sh*t poolmind, with the exception of the ink on your arm, your avatar looks exactly like.............me ! Scary!!!

FWIW, I feel like a little compassion is always the better road to take, especially as opposed to raking someone over the coals. Grady probably just needed to vent. I know I've certainly started a thread or two in my time here on AZB for no other purpose than to get frustrations off my chest, and I came off sounding like a crybaby, which in reality I am not.
