A rich, dark red wood?

Any suggestions and pics of a finished, rich, dark red wood to use for a cue butt?

I've seen some nice Cocobolo that's moderately close to what I'd like to find, but it's still too brown and I'm just not a fan of brown at all.

Is there a naturally-occurring wood out there for me? Or are there any nicely figured woods that readily accept a red stain? Or would that be a bad idea?

I really like Tiger Maple, Birdseye Maple, Curly Maple and Snakewood patterns, fwiw.

Here is a picture of Paduak which is a redish color that gets darker over time.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, guys! Keep 'em comin'!

Any more finished images? I'd like to see something like a rich, dark red with no real hint of brown at all.

Redwood burl...it's the best! Hard to capture with a camera, but it is a beautiful wood with a ton of beauty. This is one that I just applied the finish, haven't done the sanding /buffing. Curly is awesome also, but the burls just have more figure and chatoyance to it, IMO.

Red Heart is about the only straight grain wood that is red that I know of. Padauk is orange. The right piece of Amboyna can be pretty red, but that quality is very hard to find. The dyed woods might be something to consider. Or you might add red stain to one of the woods that are almost red. I have seen some Maple stained red that looked really nice.

Bois de Rose is a candidate.

I am surprised

that noone has mentioned Amboyna Burl yet. It is a beautiful red color (or yellow, depends).
