Alex being Alex

i sure was................

u were in the chat room no..big nasty?

i sure was and if i reacalll dippy paid him 500 to do it! and if i recall i said several timesif i was ther it wouldnt of happend, and i recall saying several times if jcin was there it wouldnt of happend! the facts are it happend and we cant change it. not proud of it but it happend! like beav said he was there alone justin was sick and the canucks werent around and beav was sellin stuff kicken sleepers out runnin the streram and trying to keep up the chat! scott was out of line, how many times has scott done commentary and you have all loved it? and maybe beav just thought it was gonna be another session of that and didnt moniter it! i wasnt at the derby but i did say several times that it was out of line! once again tar apolagizes for scotts behavior on our mics!

Just to be clear a few weeks later he admitted to being drunk. Many players and spectators knew he had been drinking. Total meltdown for sure and yes he has many demons.

I'm just trying to show example of other sports with such episodes. I'm a huge Alex fan and this will not tarnish that. Lets just put it behind him and hopefully he will learn from this.

Errm, that entire article states that it was very possibly "not" alchoholism that caused that whole scene and possible far deeper psychological concerns. I know a fair bit about Daly and don't think the things that article mentions are out of the realm of possibility. Not to mention Daly is long gone from any form of true professional golf today, largely in part to his various "problems".

It's on pause.....

Jeesh Terry, he drank at a pool tournament. This isn't life or death or anything new.

ccs,
I got nothing against Alex. It's his life and his choices.

My posts are not about Alex. They're about those who slap him on the back, laugh at or with him, and keep egging him on to keep drinking. The ones who make excuses for him when he's really hurting himslef.

Makes me kinda wonder who really cares the most about "The Lion"...those who wish he could overcome his addiction, or those who keep making excuses for him and who keep egging on to "keep it up cause it's entertaining."

I hope Alex wins a slew of tournaments and makes boo-koo bucks with pool. I also don't want to see him hurt himself.

Beav you were put in an impossible situation. You are not responsible. You're not the one accountable. And sure Justin should get a pass on this one, too, given the situation.

But you shouldn't also be giving Alex a pass because he's your friend. How do you know Justin that the people running the 14.1 didn't have every bit as tough as a situation to deal with than Beav did. Their decision making situation was probably tougher. Yet you're more willing to knock them than Alex.

That's annoying. And counterproductive for pool. The full weight of public opinion should come down on Alex and he should be held accountable. Just as it should with Scott Frost. Pool can't hope to move out of the gutters until then. Apologists hurt the potential business proposition.

When all of you who believe no harm, no foul, go on and on about how you don't fathom why sponsors aren't flocking to support the game of pool please come back to this thread and read carefully. Then reread it. Nobody is ever going to put money into a game where bad behavior is allowed if not glorified. The people who put on the 14.1 and all the competitors should get an apology and somethiing like a statement saying i won't disrespect you, the game, the viewers, etc again.

I am real curious as just exactly where Beav or I said Alex didn't screw up? Go ahead and quote that for me.

As for the comparing the Frost episode if you really consider a 3am free stream with one camera of a guy named Dippy playing 18-4 one pocket the same thing as a ppv full production accu stats stream of a 10k added feature side event finals then you are living in a different world than me. Our derby stream has always been wide open. It's what it is. We do the best we can with what we have to work with. Sometimes things are not perfect. To compare what we do to the alex situation is reaching at best. We are more a fly on the wall than anything at derby. Probably be better for the game to just stop doing it in case someone drunk happens to sit in front of a mic at 4 am.

If my biggest concern was putting on a showcase of gentlemanly competion for all the world to see you can be pretty sure I would not let one of those guys be staggering hammered when it kicked off. Everyone wanted to see a show. So thats what they did. To put all the heat on Alex for it is weak. Personally I don't think it's a big deal but I hate that guys like Marop and Dennis put so much effort into the event only to have one snag define a fantastic effort.

Punish Alex for the screw up. Learn from the situation. Quit with sweeping generalizations , wailing and gnashing of teeth about why pool will always suck and simply drive the hell on.

Well just to offer a counter point, I enjoyed the hell out of it. I do have a odd sense of humor at times, but offended I was not.

Frost: "Beav, ya know I love you man."
Beav: " I gotcha man."

Repeat every 3-5 minutes as needed lol.

Classic stuff right there I tell ya.

And anyone getting offended by a free internet stream they can close with a simple click of the mouse is working pretty hard to be offended imo.

No worries TAR...I know you're not proud of those few hours, but don't feel as bad as some of these guys think you should. Just a little of the "overly drunk guy at the pool hall" type action we have all seen in real life many times.

As far as alex goes...his choices, his consequences....ain't got a dog in the fight. Not sure why so many feel they do.

Terry you are my man but just exactly when was Alex got an addiction? If getting hammered the last Saturday of Derby and showing your ass is a key indicator then there are a whole lot of problem cases in this forum.

I am a big fan of Alex and his game. I've often watched him practice here in Hawaii. However knowingly getting drunk and making an ass out of yourself in a professional tournament where event organizers work their butt off is unexceptable. This is a slap in the face to the game of 14.1 and dcc as a whole. You dont just get drunk by accident and go into a finals of a tournament. For a person with such tremendous self discipline on the pool table has such terrible self discipline off the table. Have some respect, I'd say they should ban him from derby city as a whole for 2 years.

I think we should ban every player who gets drunk at Derby and shows their ass for two years.

Of course then the Derby would only happen every three years.

this is crazy

i was at the derby for 4 days and i couldnt immagine the mental state he was in competing, give alex credit he played great. he got drunk. so it cost him money. he earned the right to be there so let him be. good shoting alex. o yeah i think he got screwed out of 17k too

No, I don't think I will Justin. I'm positive Alex is a good guy. I'm positive you're a good guy. But you're the one that comes with the weak stuff because you can't or won't take responsibility for ... whatever. This is isnt' about who is a good guy. It's about trying to draw a line somewhere, anywhere to be respectable. And when the going gets tough your answer is always something like that's just how it is or went down or why don't you do it , that's pool and it's not my fault and it's somebody's elses fault for bringing it up at all. The argument that the Scott Frost debacle wasn't so bad because it was in the early morning or whatever takes you to new heights in rationalizing.

To me, the action rooms and tournament rooms are two different scenes. Granted I don't like the idea of showing asses in either room but it certain would be more "acceptable" in a gambling room.

This is classic Justin: it's just someone showing their ass. what's so about that.

Alex's behavior in that instance and Scott's behavior on your stream is not showing their ass it's showing pool's ass. That's what you don't get.

Where to even begin....

TO HELL WITH IT TERRY WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO MAKE A GOT DAM NOOSE AND HANG THE SHORT LITTLE F*KER THEN?

not every one was taught to make perfect choices and not everyone is a mountain of a man like you are I'm sure..........

many people are mentally weak.......some are so stupid and couldn't choose the right thing if their lives depended on it...........

you sound like the same mother f6kers that say that anyone that commits suicide will burn in hell for eternity

like Doc says:

Wyatt, you ever wonder why we been a part of so many unfortunate incidents, yet we're still walking around? I have figured it out. It's nothing much, just luck. And you know why it's nothing much Wyatt? Because it doesn't matter much whether we are here today or not. I wake up every morning looking in the face of Death, and you know what? He ain't half bad. I think the secret old Mr. Death is holding is that it's better for some of us over on the other side. I know it can't be any worse for me. Maybe that's the place for your Maddie. For some people, this world ain't ever gonna be right.

Just send him to a psyche ward so they can pack him with anti depressants so he can hang himself so you don't have to get your hands dirty.

Then theres just say no.........lmfao.........I MADE A LIVING OFF OF MAKING PEOPLE SAY YES WHEN THEY WANTED TO SAY NO........so Nacy Regan can kiss my rebel dick

many people that bring the most entertainment and happiness into our lives also bring the most havok........but at the end of the day when we walk away and the sun sets on those people's lives we miss them and wish they were still around to aggravate us.

sincerely,
-Grey Ghost-

GG,
While you're out there on them oil rigs, you should take a minute to bone up on some reading comprehension. You're way off base.

I got nothing against Alex. It's with the ones who don't understand that he's hurting himself and keep making excuses for him. They're giving him reasons to keep on hurting himself. This wasn't a one time event here.

Who said I wanted to string him up? You should know me better than that by know. You sniffing too much oil fumes?

This is what you also said..."you sound like the same mother f6kers that say that anyone that commits suicide will burn in hell for eternity"

Are you hearing voices or something? Where did you ever get that from my posts???? You hate religon or something?

My favorite Doc quote is "We play for blood!" I liked Val Kilmer's version of Doc Holliday in "Tombstone" better than the one in the "Wyatt Earp" movie.

Let me scroll back up & see what else you talked about. I'll be right back....

Oh yea, this gem...."Just send him to a psyche ward so they can pack him with anti depressants so he can hang himself so you don't have to get your hands dirty."

What in the name of Dr. Sigmund Freud are you talking about??? Who said anything about a psych ward, anti-depressants or a rope? How are my hands gonna get dirty. I'm totally lost.

Nancy Reagan can do WHAT to your Johnny Reb anatomy? Why you want HER???

(I'm trying to follow your post and answer each point you scrambled. Bear with me for a second till I go take another peek at what's next....)

Ok, I'll miss Alex too. I like the little fella. Hopefully, he'll get healthy and live a long life. But I'm sure there'll be some who will want him to keep chuggin' away!

Since we've always gotten along just peachy here, I also want to do my part in keeping it real with you. So.....

Very sincerely right back at you,

Terry

PS-Remember in Tombstone, when Doc told Johnny Ringo "I don't think I could stand it if we weren't friends"? Do you think he meant it? :)

I normally love your posts here and they are very informative but I find these naive. I've been around pool halls enough to see the effect they can have on a person. I've been offered drugs more times in one month at a pool hall than I have the rest of my life combined. How many up and coming players got addicted to something far worse than alcohol and you don't hear about them anymore? How many of them have come to the table coked up out of their minds but it's not as noticeable as someone stumbling around and being a little too loud?

Thanks ccs, cause I normally like and agree with you also. And just because we don't agree in this thread, none of us should hold no grudge. I know I won't.

This ain't about Alex at all. My beef is with all those who keep enabling someone who has an addiction to keep hurting themselves. You can swap out Alex's name and fill in the blank with any other name.

I commend you for being mentally tough and being able to stand up for yourself and say "No thanks" when you were offered all them drugs you mentioned.
But if you did take them, my beef wouldn't be with YOU, it would be with the ones who sold you the drugs and the ones who kept egging you on to hurt yourself.

We got too many people around who are afraid to stick up for what is right. They call wrong right and they call right wrong.

I seen some stuff over the years. I know just a little about how bad addicts hurt themselves and those around them. It ain't nothing funny.
That's what I been saying.

This is classic Justin: it's just someone showing their ass. what's so about that.

Why don't you step your game up & play on the big stage & show everyone how a real professional is suppose to act...That's right you dobn't have the talent..But you do have the knack/talent for putting down almost everybody on this forum...It is what it is & I'm sure there will be future steps to make sure it doesn't happen again...Just pick your nails & cross up for now for your next criminal....Peace out...I know you'll never get it.

and you're just a backroom gambler/hustler. So I take your point with that in mind. But i appreciate the feedback. Regards to your LiL Arab you always brag on.

Why don't you go to the doctor & tell him how angry you are inside....the lil arab was just like you & the doctor gave him some meds & he is much better now !

Justin,
I have always had mad respect for you. Always will too. You're one of the really good guys in and for pool. Whether you had TAR or not, it still would be true. And even if we ever do disagree, it would never affect my friendship with you.

My "addiction" comment on Alex stems from the numerous times over the years where him and alcohol are discussed in the same sentence. There's more than what went on at the DCC. Not to drop the Billiards Digest card () BUT, in the November 2004 issue, Alex himself opens up about him and "drinking". It's been a long struggle and many of us are rooting for him to quit.

Keith was able to quit, and he feels so much better. And one of our very favorite pool gals is also very happy about and supportive of, his decision.

For the guys saying Alex deserved the Overall, there is a point system that decides it. Is it right? Maybe, maybe not. But an overall has to be decided by a point system or a subjective vote. It is just your opinion that Alex deserved it. But he barely lost, by the point system. Personally I like the point system vs. a voting system. Everyone knows beforehand(I assume) how the points are distributed, and can adjust their efforts as they wish.

I watched a great amount of the TAR stream before I went to derby and including that night. However, I didn't catch any of the frost thing and
I wonder exactly how many actually did. No way of really knowing but I'll bet it wasn't many. The "viewers" # doesn't take into count the people sleeping with a computer still on that site.

What I'm getting at is, if a tree falls in a forest... You know.

On a larger level, same could be said for Alex. If "pool is showing it's ass", I'm wondering who exactly saw it that matters. I'll doubt Marketing dept at Pepsi caught that ppv.

Again, I'm sure Alex said he was sorry to people today and it was disrespectful to get wasted and go nuts, but nobody is making excuses for him. A lot of people got drunk last night but one of them started an hour too soon.

As far as JCIN not taking responsiblity for his actions, that's 100% crap. JCIN is a man of his word and a man of his actions. If he screws up he has no problem saying it was his fault. You won't find a more honest, level headed and down to earth man in pool. The man puts his ass out there and works for a loss so YOU can catch frost acting a fool on a free stream. TAR is not CNBC and shouldnt be. It's action and like you are in the pool room with a perfect angle. If you dont like what they show, say or do then don't watch. If Scott's actions upset you that much, I'm sure TAR will be happy to refund you 100000x over for that free stream. He has went above and beyond to bring that to me and you and this is the shit he has to fade... It's unreal. JCIN is a great friend of mine but I would not stand up if I felt he did something wrong. And in fact I would tell him if he did... But he didn't do anything wrong.
