Alex calls out Shane to Play!

Alex joined Justin in the commentators booth today, during the 10 ball bar table tourney and he sent out a message loud and clear that he wants to play Shane.

He actually sent out a plea (jokingly of course) to all the listeners to help him make it happen.

In fact just last week during the Swannee tourney he also showed up at the TAR booth and Justin asked him then if he was interested in doing a rematch with Shane. His reply was that Shane keeps saying "sure" but then never actually does and keeps ducking him.

Well I'm sure that a lot of people other than myself would love to see that re-match happen.Their first match (3 years ago now) is already an all time classic. The problem is of course that its Shane's call. He is in a position where he is making excellent dough these days at easier games so why risk it playing a lion?

No disrespect to Earl Strickland but c'mon Shane! Earl is giving up 20 years in age. A huge disadvantage in a long race. everyone knows hes a dog except Earl.

Shane used to say that he would play 10 ball anyone anywhere any amount when he first got his huge break going and started to play really good. What happenned to that Shane?

For the record Alex has never ducked anyone.
(for that matter neither has George St. Pierre, Manny Pacquiao, Mike Tyson, or anyone claiming to be the best)

I have a ton of respect of for what the guys at TAR are doing and they should be able to rely on support from the best players to make the best matches available (especially if its PPV.)

So c'mon Shane get a heart transplant and give us the match we want to see!!!

Just for the record. Shane isnt scared or lacks any heart. Its more about scheduling than anything else. Not long after they played last time Alex went MIA from pool. Now that hes back and in the us more than a coupe weeks a year I am sure we'll see a rematch.

Shane wants to play Alex. There's no fear there. Respect sure but when the time comes you can bet Shane will get in the box.

It's not that he's "scared" of Alex, I think that it's Alex's personality that gets on his nerves a little bit. It's just irritating and I know how Shane feels as I know a local player around here who I know i'm better then but won't play because he's simply a pain in the @ss.

We seen a little bit of it at Derby in the 14.1 finals.

Not sure how you formed this opinion because its 100% wrong. Shane enjoys playing Alex.

There's a lot of pride in both these guys. It ain't just about money. And, I don't believe either has any fear at all, of anyone. They both have a ton of heart.

i think you need a brain transplant more than svb needs a heart transplant.

They have played each other many times already. IMO you couldn't find more even top tier pro match up. Johnnyt

Lots of misinformation in this thread:

1. Shane has as much heart as anyone (except maybe Alex)

2. Shane likes Alex. If he didn't, they wouldn't have matched up 10 times in a 5 month period. I don't know anyone that doesn't like Alex.

3. Shane doesn't bet his own, maybe some but not all. I'm sure he did when he started, but not in the past couple years since MARS MAN BOENING INC. was founded.

Do you have any clue what it takes to put a match like that together.
Backers, finding the time and place, Shane travels about 300 days a year, its not that easy to find the time to play.
As for the Earl match, Earl put out a open challenge and Shane jumped on it and they fit it in to his schedule.
Alex and Shane will play again probably many times, we will just have to wait for the time and place.

I listened to the feed.To me it sounded like an open invitation based on whether it could fit into both players schedule.Timing is everything.

Shane will here of Alex's proposition in due time.

I think one of the biggest questions is..... Who does the Mars Man put in the box? If my memory stands correct, he backed Alex vs Shane and has since been backing Shane because Alex has been MIA in the pool world. Either one of them would have the Mars Man behind them vs anyone else, but what happens here? Maybe he just sits on the sidelines?

I would like to see an Alex and Earl match up, you talking about a collide of personalities. It would be interesting to see if Alex could keep smiling playing Earl. As far as heart, SVB goes over seas, or anywhere else, there is a good game. To be the best you have to beat the best, and right now, I think that is SVB.

alex and shane

I watched the classic race to 100 with Alex and Shane and you could see how the outcome affected Shane. I think Shane has the best of anyone at those race to 100 or more in multiple day events. When the time is right...Shane will play Alex and I think the outcome will be different. That match up they had in the race to 100 is the best match I had ever seen, and I saw quite a few. Many people thought Mika would beat Shane in Mikas' home place at Amsterdam...but Shane destroyed Mika by 20 games and made Mika squirm in his chair the whole time...even creating some sharking moves while he was in his chair, Mika was never a factor in that match up. Earl has always been my favorite player, and I do think Earl has more natural talent then most anyone else. If he could control his mind and stay focused, I still think he's right up there with the best and could have given so much more to the Pool World. Shane has the same effect on me as Earl and I can't wait for the Match up in March. If Earl can control himself, this could very well be a top shelf match to remember. Like someone else mentioned in this post, I would like all of these multiple match up be a win by maybe 5-10 games, even though it's really exciting to watch a hill-hill match, playing that long could very well be won on a fluke shot or a miss cue or scratch on a break...but by making it a win by a certain number would really be the way to go..for the players and the fans. I have been playing for around 45 years and never had anyone to teach me or dvds to learn from, I made it a point to play against the top players like Earl..Johnny Archer, and so forth. I knew I could not win, but I learned so much from the top players, especially Earl. When my match was over, I would take my cue back to my room and made a point to go back to the tournament area and watch the top players. The one thing I regret is that I did not set my goals very high, I was happy just to cash in the tournament and I did so quite often, when you had to qualify and win points at a lower level, and then you went from semi Pro to Touring Pro and compete with the top players. So to the younger players of today...set high goals for yourself, don't settle just for cashing in....make goals for yourself. I did all of this while working 2 full time jobs and raised a family with 3 kids, I used all of my vacation time traveling around the country playing in the best tournaments I could. Also 1 of my jobs, I got laid off a lot and the other job I was a manager at a private club, so I could set my own hours without neglecting my family and we took many of vacations in the middle of the week, that gave more time to learn the game. The last 2 tournaments I played was Music City open and the Pro 8-Ball event at Allen Hopkins trade show back in 2002. I finished 17th at JOBS and tied for 9th at the Hopkins expo. I suffer from uncontrollable migraines, but I am hoping I can come back to competing again this year...I really miss the game. I also give lessons, and that drives me more then ever to come back and compete. I never intended to write all of this, but my heart aches to play again and talking of this, my mind just rambled on....................Duke from Pa................

first ill say i like svb im not always on his side.
but here i am you say he needs a heart transplant?
svb plays just about anyone in the world.
tough to say he needs a heart transplant cause
you want him to play alex so that you have a nice match
to watch.

Not sure how you formed this opinion because its 100% wrong. Shane enjoys playing Alex.

youtube, watch shanes reaction when Alex's name is called.

I think I had a beer in my hand when i was watching it and ended up dropping it.

The OP couldn't mean heart transplant like that, let's pretend he didn't say that. SVB is a beast, I'm actually surprised he has money cause most of the time I hear he's in a match I don't think he can win when he gives up the weight he gives up. Plus he will play all your proposition and gaff games. SVB is a gambling man.

With that said, I don't think it's a matter of if he plays Alex, it's a question of when. Unfortunately being a professional player puts SVB in a lot of different places in the world. Alex is playing but he's not qualified for most of the invitational events at the World Level and you won't see Alex popping up in Euro Tour events like SVB, Japan events etc. I'm just saying dude plays everywhere.

Alex Vs SVB again playing 10-Ball the same way Earl is playing SVB but on a 9 footer would be a good match. Hope they get down.

Don't forget The Masters 10-ball !

World 10 Ball, US Open 10 Ball. This is the wrong time of year to put out a challenge to Shane.

Personally, if it's another 10 ball match, long race, I would be betting on Shane as usual. I think Alex's absence will hurt him at this level.
