Alex & SVB Score Thread

I really hope you're kidding here. Alex turned his game around, and started putting the screws to Alex In no way is there any lemonade going on. I guarantee you that. Alex played nearly flawless in his comeback ran, especially during the safety battles.

Fred

Fred,

All you said is true, Alex played awesome run outs and his safety play was flawless, but he also started to get many, many rolls. He deserves all the credit but you kept mentioning how lucky Shane was earlier in the match (which he was, but played well, too) but failed to mention how Alex was getting the majority of the rolls for the last 2 hours.

The fact is that rolls are a part of the game and they seem to even out over time, it just was disappointing that you "seemed" to show favoritism for Alex in your commentary. It may not have been intentional but it was my observation. Commentators should be a little more neutral in my opinion.

With that said, you did a great job in the booth and deserve a lot of credit.

Dave

If you heard when the transition was made from Ken to Jay in the booth, they both spent a lot of time talking about how great Shane was. So great that he could take on anyone in the Phillipines and they had to watch out for him. Which I think has truth in it. Shane will only improve from here and that is saying a lot. He already is a giant. But then it was when Shane was leading by over 20 games. As soon as it turned toward Alex's favor the tune changed as well. Jay started talking about how great Alex was as well. I think the commentators were, like us, caught up in the excitement of the game. No favoritism there.

I can't believe someone is complaining about favoritism in commentary towards Alex. I mean come on, every TAR stream I have seen with Shane in it was commentated in favor of Shane. That said........

I enjoyed the excitement from the commentary, especially during the last 2 hours.

Great job guys

I like the format of five sets to 21 each instead of the race to 100. With the race to 100 the player that jumps out to a 10 game lead very rarely loses. In fact I don't think anyone has caught the front runner after the first day on TAR yet. Johnnyt

Man I too faded out last night and missed what must have been some nice play.
Fred you're doing a great job on the commentary, tough job with little reward. Thanks for doing it. I'll be there tonight till the end.

I'm still voting for the 3 out of 5 set format which I think would create more pressure, action on the sidelines and excitement for the fans.

Thanks for all the updates.. Look forward to hearing more today and positive rep has been left for you. :)

No problem. Thanks everyone for all the rep. Sorry, but I won't be able to give all you NITS anymore updates today!:p I have to work during the final stretch.:( I actually don't get to watch many of the challenge matches, cause I have to usually work during them. I understand that people have things that cause then not to be able to sweet it themselves. I am usually checking the updates on AZ myself. This one happened to fall on some of my days off.

My buddy asked me today if I thought Alex would say "Flip it" if he lost tonight. I hadn't thought of that possiblity but he reminded me that Alex has a huge knot of cash in his pocket plus he can probably get staked to play again for 10k. What would TAR do if that happens?

Keep on broadcasting??? Same good quality, great action, and low price.

I hear you. It was way past my bedtime, and I'm still paying for it, so maybe things seemed exaggerated to me to the point I felt I needed to comment. It's not a big deal I just wanted to share some of what I thought was constructive criticism.

BPG24, that said, I totally agree with you that the last two hours along w/Shane's rush to get to 60, was riveting. I'm glad I was a part of it.

I can't wait till tonight - American Idol, pool, american idol, pool ;).

I love what TAR is doing, the production is really good and the show is filled with great players and characters which is fun to watch.I do believe the business model they have is not going to work sadly.I think instead of PPV,the pool should be free, sponsors should pay the money.Imagine if all these PPV matches were free,i think as time went on we would see 1000s watching these streams, thats great for sponsors.More hits and viewers equals more sponsorship dollars for sure,i do see they have sponsors listed but dont know what they really contribute.I think that its the best way to do a live stream is sponsorship, the ppv thing wont work on a large scale,it seems people either dont have the means or money and also the technical problems that come with doing a live show you will have complaints about the stream being PPV and not being perfect.I hope this happens and TAR gets some good solid financial backing from sponsors to take this to the next level and everyone wins, the fans, the sponsors and TAR! :)

Its kind of a catch 22. Pool has never had sponsors because they know the audience as a whole will not spend money. Why would sponsors want to throw money for free live feeds when the people watching won't buy their product?

It depends on who the sponsor is.

Who doesnt carry Master Chalk in their bag? (atleast one, come on)
Who hasnt tried a Predator shaft?

I think the main thing is that pool isnt making anyone a lot of money other then the elite players. I could be wrong though.

Maybe TAR could work a deal with Master, say the cost is $25, they front TAR some cash, everyone who buys the feed gets a 'mixer' bag of chalk or a box of chalk. Master sells some chalk, TAR gets some up front cash, everyone gets something out of the deal.

what would you want to with what we got going IBA?

double or nothing?

You've got action on $400 again, win or lose. Or more action I guess is the right thing to say.

Well magazines and lots of media outlets like pool papers have sponsors,it might not be big time money but its still a budget to do what they need to accomplish. The IPT has sponsors,if they can get them with the reputation they have then TAR certainly can get sponsored.Get 5 sponsors to pony up $300 a piece and you have $1500,thats probably 5 times what they make in PPV.There are probably a few companies, cuemakers or perhaps even casemakers on here who might want to get involved in a sponsorship of TAR,i think its alot about loyalty too,if they get on board now they build trust instead of waiting for TAR to really take off and then try to get with it.I do believe its the only way this will truly work,PPV will not be the answer IMO,sell sponsor packages. This is the future of pool, the live streams and flash videos online,ESPN sadly is not buying it.I think TAR will be ok and you will see more people doing streams around the country and the world and sponsors if they are smart will get in on it early at a good price and if not they will pay more to be a sponsor. The next year or 2 should be exciting for online pool and the streams will get better and more people will be doing it,a cheap way for sponsors to get their name to a larger audience and also the fans will benefit along with the TAR and others. :)

I didnt know that, thats great for them then, but i will stand by my guns that sponsors are the way to go along with them doing their DVDs and shirt sales.I thought someone said with the Appleton and Frost match they had around 30 viewers or something like that. Only time will tell if their business model is successful,i commend them for their hard work and taking the risk of investing in the sport. :)
