Another example of bad equipment coming into play - Japan Open

Ground Movement

The distance between Amagsaki (where the venue is) and Nagano is about
200 miles.....Nagano was the center of a 6.8 earthquake on Saturday.

Could this have affected the tables?

Ronnie Allen tried to use that excuse at Janscos during play. He said when he got back to the table, all the balls had moved hummmmmmmmmm, but hey, it's RA talkin' :grin-square:

OMG, that ball rolled off several inches! This has been a problem that Cyclops was aware of since last Summer. I refuse to use these balls in any tournament I do until it is corrected.

If you watch her opponents ball it rolls off in the same direction as well, to the middle of the rail. I dont know if it was the balls or the table, but in a significant match like that, I am surprised that they continued playing!

cyclops balls vs aramith

I own a the easter/skittle looking set of Cyclops balls. My cue ball rolls just fine.

However, two weekends ago at the Tornado Alley Regional Championships, our team took first :), they had a set of Cyclops balls that were awful. I do believe its because at the venue the floor was concrete. So every now and again the a cue ball would fly off the table and bounce on the concrete. We thought that this was creating a flat spot on the cue ball, causing it to roll off.

Bad Boys Production was here back in April from the State Tourney Black Gold, Same thing concrete floor cue balls bouncing off the ground etc...

My analysis don't hold a tourney where a venue is concrete floors. 2ndly if you do then replace the cue balls. don't use them at Nationals.

With that being said I have gone back to my Super Pro Aramith Set that comes with the measal ball and I like the measal ball and that set of pool balls the best.

I don't know about those Cyclops balls, I for one am turned off by the colors enough not to even have a desire to buy them.

But ... as I saw that shot it seemed the slate was defective.

On a side note ... I gotta be getting old and out of touch. I admit I'm no lover of rotation games ... but geez ... they shouldn't worry about those rolls if they glue those ridiculous racks to the table cloth, should they?

Is that what they did? That thing doesn't seem to move. If you don't mind shooting through the rough and speed bumps there in the middle of the table ... what's the big deal about screwed up rolls near the pockets.

I don't know .. I guess pool as I remembered it is gone forever and morphed into something else. Go bump over that stencil speed bump and have fun I guess.

WOW im glad i decided to buy a set of super pros last year after bca vegas, instead of cyclops. i was truly on the fence

I think they have a lead ball in the center.
They did not want to make a real pure resin ball. :grin-square:
They should repackage those balls and sell them at Toys R Us.

Just adjust the rules Jay.
Allow one hand span Cyclop rule.:D

I have the understanding that a ball has to be no more than 5/1,000 off round to be
world legal.
Aramith exceeds this by a lot....tending to be within 2/1,000 off round.
Did the WPA sleep this?

I gotta bet it's the tables.

pt....won't bet his cash with a magnetic cue ball

Not the table .
They used Diamond tables at the Rio Hotel a few weeks back with those balls too. You could see the cue ball dancing like a drunk sailor in some matches. Hell, Dechaine went ape sh!t after missing a ball to the side pocket b/c the cueball was LARGER than usual.

I have said this before. The balls nebulousness and lack of clarity of a specific spot on the object ball is where I have a big problem. The ball set seems to pick up outside light too brighten the balls, almost gives me the feeling they would ''glow in the dark'' under black lights. I prefer Titlist :grin-square: ball sets made in Belgium.
Saving $100 on a cheaper ball set, is the worst money you'll ever save in your life, step up and get at least one grade below the top in Belgium. But one things for sure, the ball set will last YOUR life time.

In that case, Joey, the WPA dropped the ball......
...what good is their sanctioning if they allow unstandard balls?

They're in Taiwan and Chinese money was too good. :D
They also allowed those Gold Crown copies at the WPC.
WPA is clueless anyway. They need to revise the pocket angle specs for the corners . Make them 135-139* already. Not 141-142*.

It's my understanding (I could be wrong) that the cue balls aren't out of round it's that the weight is unevenly distributed which causes them to roll off.

frustrating that at such a prestigious event you can get rolls like this. could have been worse; could have been hooked on the point.

see at 00:50 - also, can anyone make out what Lee Van says into the mic after contemplating for a little bit?

I think he is saying man, this table sucks and bad enough I'm playing Yukio but also this table, as well.

That was great, it looked like league night at the local bar

Yeah, that's why many magnetic balls don't roll true......I've got one broken open and you
can see the phenolic ( or whatever it is) bleeding into the hollow metal core.

If I was given a ball that didn't roll true at a ranked tournament ( and I could prove it)....
....I would throw it in a trash can.....I might get evicted from the venue, but I would be
doing every player a favor.

Danny Diliberto missed an easy 5-ball for a century once at a 14.1 tourney....
...he said there was something funny about that ball...his buddies said he dogged it.
The very next match on that table, the guy lagged with the 5-ball and scratched....
...Danny said, "What did I tell you?"
The 5-ball was taken out of the tournament.

Maybe cyclop should consider adding another eye opposite the current one on whitey.

but then it would no longer be a cyclop.

insert rolling eyes emoticon here ---->

best,
brian kc
