Appleton says USA will lose - worried for Hatch's safety

Ha!

the best players in the world? hmm, then why is it that the europeans don't beat ANYONE for the cash? in a short race, sure...anyone has a chance that is a good player. but let their team matchup and race to 100 against our team....Americans by a landslide!
the euros DO play well for those shiny trophies...but...i'll take the money instead.

as for the fighting...i hope everyone is respectful on the teams and in the stands. (if i had to bet, id take Hatch lol)

BLS.
GO USA!

Europe has far better players.

He's not scared if Dennis wants to fight.

Where are you Earl???

This is the kind of shit that gives pool a black eye literally, I am sorry but I don't get your purpose for posting this thread except to create drama.

I suspect that if I were you I would ask the Mod's to delete this thread, or you can just sit there and take the heat, but if you choose to don't get mad because you brought it upon yourself.

Darren's being smart.

He hopes to give Dennis and the rest of the American Mosconi Cup Team something to think about besides beating the Europeans.

If I were captain of the American Mosconi Cup Team, I would be sending out some JoeyA propaganda too! Not too much, just something to stick in the European players' craw. :D

Go USA!

If the Euros are such better players, why can't they beat an American for big money on TAR? Beating a bunch of random players in shorter races is great to win an event, but why can't they get to the finish line in a race to 100?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

That said, there's almost no one I'd rather hang out with than Dynamite and Gwapo. :)

I don't read to much into Darren's comments. The desired effect of what he said is already taking place among us. It is a way of creating the atmosphere of excitement, through pool and fisticuffs. I for one like it and believe it will get team USA fired up.

It has to be a scary thing knowing that the US Team has boosted it's potency with the addition of Dennis Hatch. Already, the Europeans are losing and are wolfing and making threatening remarks to the US Team. If you can't talk with your sticks, I guess that is all you have. These kind of statements don't help the sport at all, in fact, it takes away from the atmoshere and degrades the sport. Appleton wins one big tournament and now he is an authority.....not hardly! Grow up Appleton and take your medicine. If any of the US Team members have a physical confrontation Mr. Appleton is the root cause.
Its WOOFING I believe not Wolfing, Appletonhas won more than one big tourney. World Champion 10 Ball, World Pool Masters, US Open. These statements are making me believe that you don't know what you are talking about.
I also think that maybe if there were some back and forth arguing at the event on camera (not actual fighting)it may actually help the sport and get more people to watch. I know that I am probably in the minority here with this statement but I think it would help not hurt as many of you seem to think.

Punch and shoot would be good for ratings, Don King or Dana White could promote it...

I think you have to tell yourself your the better team to have a chance in an event like this.
As far as Darren and Dennis fighting- Darren seems like he is much smarter than that. He doesn't really want any part of Hatch in a fight. He is just trying to get into there heads which isn't a bad idea.

Oh and by the way

Let's just call them meatheads instead of pool players, forget the pool altogether and have a 10 minute knockdown dragout at the nearest pub to decide a winner. What a retarded thread contributing absolutely nothing positive to the forum or the game...

Mosconi cup

Well Dennis you just found some more motivation. Whip their a$$es for us. Our players will surely face crowd hostility there. Just more motivation really.

In other sports trash-talking is taken in stride and, as long as it is not really insulting, no one reads much into it. I suggest we do the same here. If you read the entire article in which Darren is quoted, he's primarily expressing confidence and trying to pump up his team. The statements about who's a boxer and having crowd support seemed somewhat tongue in cheek to me. Let's not make too much of this.

Having said all of this, I'll end with: Go USA!!

Look, say what you want about the Europeans, but those darn Brits love to drink and fight and I know from first-hand experience that they are pretty good at both. :D

Hmmmm...That got me to thinking...I mighta been a Brit in a past life....nah....it's just the coonass in me but I could get along with anybody that share the same passions...lol:D

I think this statement from Appleton was really odd.... I mean why say this? Why say this at all?

The missing point is the question he was answering. He just say what matchroom want him to say...

It's a shame that the article doesn't show the questions Matchroom asked, because 1.) ShootingRazbone is correct that Darren's statement is quite odd -- out of left field; and 2.) billbOK is probably correct as well -- Darren was just responding to an [unshown] Matchroom question.

Have you guys met Darren? He's a very small guy -- all of, maybe, 150 pounds, rough guess. I don't care what kind of boxing background Darren says he has; he's at least two, more likely three whole weight classes down from Dennis. Being gracious by "assuming" their past boxing experience is the same (and I'm being really gracious here for Darren), Darren wants no piece of Dennis. I'm in the same weight class as Darren, and I've 8 years of Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido in my background (made 2nd dan, in fact; for those that know what that means). But I would never even consider -- not even a fleeting moment -- to square-off against the likes of Dennis. I don't think Darren's that crazy. And I don't think folks actually think that Dennis is "hair trigger" ready-to-fight, either. Emotional, yes. The man wears his heart and his emotions on his sleeve. But fisticuffs-ready? No. The Europeans are trying to brand Dennis as "the Earl replacement." Nice try, fellas, but the fabricated rep ain't gonna stick. You'll see.

I'm also confused about this "confrontation with Niels" thing mentioned in a previous post? The only thing I recall (granted, I wasn't there -- I only watched via the live Matchroom stream) was Dennis' "back in your face" against Alex Lely (Europe's captain). It was that "one plus one" thing, for those that remember. The only "confrontation" Dennis had with Niels was Dennis' whitewash of Niels at the table. No words were spoken, or confrontational gestures were made, that I can recall. Just the post-match handshake. Did I miss something?

Trash talk I thought that they had more class than that. Shows what I don"t know about so called world Class pro pool.

It's really all about "stirring the pot". It's good for RATINGS.Darren's TOP SHELF.

The Americans know this and the world knows this.

But just for the record, the Americans are going to spank those Europeans til you hear 'em cry! :D

There will be more controversy too. The European players will have the specators doing the wave, chanting mantras and exhorting them to be more vocal because that is the ONLY way they have any kind of chance. (That's just a little bit of JoeyA propaganda from the sidelines to add some spice to the Mosconi Cup)

And a little bit more. The European players will feign disatisfaction with the European spectators bad behavior, all the while, giving the old "wink-wink", hoping that they will get under the skin of the American Gladiators.

Against all of these odds, the American Mosconi Cup Team will stand tall, fight the good fight, and show the European players and spectators what Americans are made of.
