Johnny Archer vs. Mike Sigel in a challenge match. It will be a race to 11. The game will be 9-ball.

The date is Friday, January 3, 2014, at 8 p.m., EASTERN STANDARD TIME.

The place will be at Marietta Billiard Club in Marietta, Georgia.

It will be a great match from two legends.

Archer has the home-court advantage, but Sigel ain't going to lay down and play dead in this match. Should be a good one for sure!

I wish somebody would come with a two-shot/push-out format challenge match played by two players who know how the strategy works. That is something that may be interesting for those who have never seen that format. It would be an exhibition of shot-making skills instead of luck.

If I was a bookmaker, Johnny would be the favorite in this one.

One thing to consider in this match-up is that Mike Sigel may be in dead-punch stroke, since he's curently on tour for the GPPA League. I must say the new-and-improved website is a nice one ---> GPPA League.

Mike still has a little lightning left in the jug. ;)

Archer wins easily if all is on the square but since there's nothing on the line, I like Sigel.

Thinking Johnny will be 'nice' to his opponent ... or Archer just squeaks by to save face

jmo

Mike still has a gear if he can ever get out of neutral long enough to find it , otherwise its no contest

I think 14.1 would be a more entertaining game for these two! Best 2 out of 3 races to 100!

Just my opinion! 9 Ball soft breaking and racking issues have killed the game. 10 ball would be better than 9 ball for these two and more challenging!

Some of the younger members on this forum may not know Mike's game that well. Just before he retired Mike was called "Mr. Finals or Captain Hook". Mike's record playing in the finals of major tournaments was pronominal. I heard Jerry McWorter ask Efren who was the toughest player he'd played against and Efren didn't hesitate and said "Mike Sigel" was his toughest opponent. Mike said he just didn't have the drive to compete when he decided to retire and if he's in stroke I'd give some serious thought to betting against "Captain Hook"!

I agree here, it was not very long ago that Sigel was in a 10 ball tournament (1-2 years ago) where he steam rolled over players, winning like 20 or more games in a row, before losing 1 game, and it was against a very good field.

Now that is very impressive for any player, not alone for a player who hasnt seriously played pool for years.

I forget where Sigel placed or what tournament it was!

This is a great match up and who ever plays their best will win, Is that a stupid answer or what?

That was in one of Tony Robles tournaments on the Predator Tour.
I don't know where he placed, but he didn't win the event.

Race to 11 in 9 ball is a toss up. In a longer race I'd take Archer simply because he is younger and still competing although with a shot clock I'm not so sure.

I'd like to see them play 14.1 to 150. With a shot clock I take Sigel all day long in that.

Yeah, well...

I saw Mike get beat by shortstop Josh Degler in Florida a few years ago... EVEN.

Josh thought he had the nuts, and tried to get me to bet on him, but I figured, "well, Mike might not be playing much, but he IS an all-time champion.." I dodn't bet, and ended up missing out on some easy money.

So... I'll reserve judgement until I see Mike playing well.

Based on what? Archer doesn't play 14.1 too bad, and his shotmaking is going to be much better than Mike's at this point in their careers.

I wouldn't bet on Sigel against ANY modern champion, in ANY game.

Mike, being 15 years older and on Johnny's home court. Archer has to be the odds on favorite. It would be cool if Mike won, though.:)

If they gambled and played long races in an all around, I wish I could get odds from everyone in this thread and take Sigel. It's like if people don't see a guy compete in events that pay peanuts, they think someone is washed-up. 14.1, 8 ball and maybe banks I think Johnny is the underdog even now. 14.1 for SURE.

If Sigel were a few years younger, Johnny might be drawing dead in an all around including all games. Just my humble opinion of course.

?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!

Archer will outbreak Sigel all day long in 8 ball, so Sigel would be lucky to get 5 games in races to 8.

Sigel a favorite over Archer in BANKS???????

I know you like to be contrarian, Spider... But REALLY??? Sigel has never been known as a top banker, and Grady Matthews has often praised Archer's banking ability on older Accu-Stats videos..

Honestly, 14.1 is the only game Sigel has a chance in, and even in that, he will need 100% of his shotmaking ability from yesteryear, and that just ain't gonna happen.
