Johnny just took it down against Mika. He thumped him against many peoples prediction. Way to go Johnny!!!

Again, I am so glad I couldn't find the right odds to bet on the match. Congrats Johnny A. Just goes to show you that a great player can play 14.1 with the best of them and win, even though 14.1 is far from his best game. Johnnyt

Congrats Johnny!!! Thanks again for the lesson. I used to use back hand english after watching a Kinister video and later decided parallel was better for me.

Yet Johnny noticed I was still using some BHE.

"I"m totally against it!"

He helped me out and I'm a HUGE fan.

I now have 3 hall of famers signatures in silver on my pool case.

Nick Varner, Earl Strickland and Johnny "The Scorpion" Archer

Way to bring home the bacon for the fam Johnny!

Watched the whole match shot by shot....someone said that Mika was a 2-1 favorite going in....not sure I disagree with that...However..

Johnny put the gears on him...yeah, he picks at the lint more than most, but sh%t....If that's what I have to do to play like he did in that match...I'm a lint picking son of a gun.

I'm going to start picking lint thats not there off my table in the morning. Johnnyt

If its true that the match took 4 hours, its not so strange that straight pool is not very popular among the players as a tournament dicipline. Even hard core fans would rather do something else than watching that.

Its ridicolous to use that much time, and organisers of tournament should be better prepared for this. Look what happened in your own national championship, where the finals couldnt even be played because a 5 (yes, five!!!!) hour match blew away the time schedule. And now this.

Shotclock has its weaknesses, but has to be implemented, perhaps with two extensions per rack in straight pool.

Mika says he was in a coma after watching Johnny average 1 minute pr ball.

First of all, 200 points is a long match, no two ways about it. I have seem much slower players than Johnny. Dick Lane comes to mind first. If he had played in the final, they might still be playing.

I for one am not surprised by Johnny's win. He's still the best player in America, and has been for nearly 20 years. He hates One Pocket but when forced to play, makes "eight and out" look like child's play.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Hell I'd eat each piece if I could play like that. :groucho:

To paraphrase John Schmidt; I promise I'd allow myself to be eaten by a goat and shit off a ledge if I could play like that for a year. :groucho: :groucho: :groucho:

If you saw any of Johnny's play at the Accustats Classic straight pool last September, you would have known what you were in for. He took forever to run 98 balls. The commentators were beside themselves.

What was the high run?
I watched 20 minutes of SVB vs JA and i must say it was not very fun to watch whn it was johnny at the table.

some excuse for getting your ass beat. on a table as tight as that one ja showed hes the man.

Johnny Archer is a slow player, that's about all there is to say about that. Yes, he's a great player, but he's also slow.

It doesn't matter if thare are other slow players in the world, and that we should be happy they didn't play too, like Jay said.

The fault here is on the organizers. They should have known better and used a shot-clock and perhaps a shorter race. I like 14-1, but I can't imagine watching a match for 2,5 hours, and this one lasted 4 hours!!!

It is only hardcore fans like BlackJack who can watch 14-1 being played like that.

congrats to johnny archer. is there anything the man cant do (except play fast :) ? even though he plays slow i always enjoy watching him play. not surprised the match lasted 4hrs. i watched a 3 hour safety marathon btwn ja and jose parica-it was 9ball race to 9. a little boring at times some an excellent display of pool knowledge.

Totally agree, 200, especially on a "tight" table its too long of a match. When 14.1 was in its heyday 125 was the norm and 150 maybe' in the final, my thinking is the great players of that era designed the conditions and match length to give every player a chance to run out the match at any time. The players commented that this TV table was much tighter than the other tables and felt high runs were not attainable. I think earlier matches (I heard from the players doing commentary) attained runs twice the length of any high run in the final match, tho I didn't watch the final match to its end. Straight pool conditions should be such that at any time your opponent could run out the match if you miss. Once JA had a 50 ball lead it was difficult to beat him, in Lassiters day, he would take the 3 scratch rule more than once in a match and still beat ya, with this tight table you probably would of thought twice before you would even of considerd that.
