I AM THE MID-ATLANTIC KING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Joey,
I see your point; but perhaps our area is different than yours. In my area the lesser player almost NEVER puts up cash without a significant handicap (unless it is to donate in a tournament). Since we are doing this un-handicapped in a one-on-one fashion, I really think it is going to be limited to fairly decent players anyway - players who think they have a chance, and would probably like a long enough race to prove it.

The prestigious "King" title would be cheapened if we allow luck to be a significant factor. A "level" playing field is one that takes as much luck as possible out of the equation. In my view the AZB King should be a player. If we just want to maximize participation (which sounds like what Black-Balled is trying to get at), just play races to 2 or 3 for $2 - but it really takes away any prestige that the title might confer.

We are a forum of serious players, serious students, and lover's of the game. There is plenty of AZB socializing to be had at many events - I'm not really sure that $50 wagering between players that may not know each other well encourages the type of socializing that many seem to have in mind . A $50 wager is fairly serious for many poster's, if we are going to set that as the wager, the match's themselves are going to be serious - I do not anticipate that many matches will be "hit and giggle" (like at DCC).

P.S. - I'd rip steev's heart out for $40......well......maybe $45.

YOu are quite convincing and I have changed my position. You have brought up excellent points and I have to agree with them.

BTW, for those of you who don't know Williebetmore, he's a great guy and when he plays me, he's going to have a serious uphill battle, although he will probably twist my arm to play some straight pool. After 100 balls or so I should know the rules well enough to give him a run for his money.

The AZBilliards King title wouldn't be much if we just made it so easy for the lesser player to win. For those with a competitive spirit, it could be a challenge with the longer races.

OK, cajunbarboxplyr, bring your dough and we'll have a little FAIS DO-DO while we play a little pool for the LA AZBilliards King's crown. Just make sure you bring a nice sweet honey.

Dudes,
I do like the idea of standard games, but surely on a forum such as this there are at least a few people who enjoy playing pool. The races definitely need to be a bit longer; or we might as well have coin-flipping Kings. Don't we like to play pool??????

Short race rotation games are a poor way to choose a King. If money is involved, they are an even poorer choice. Yes, they give the weaker player a little more of a shot; BUT don't we really want the title of "AZB King" to mean something. The bangers have the APA and handicapped leagues; perhaps AZB could actually reward the more skillful players with a real contest instead of a coin flip. The weaker players could always practice a bit and try again (novel concept).

How about race to 10 in 9-ball, 10-ball, and 8-ball (the IPT standard)?

How about race to 5 (or 7) in one pocket?

How about race to 150 in straight pool (traditional)?

Anything less than this and many people will not want to put up cash. Participation is bound to be better with the longer races and defined races. I like it (though steev and I will play a longer match, because we LIKE TO PLAY POOL).

P.S. - if no cash is involved, then race to 1 in 2-ball will be fine with me.
Short races will be more of an equalizer. I think it will keep it on the fun side. Let's leave the serious and rule discrepancies to tournaments and gambling.

King T,
I had no idea I was in the presence of such greatness when I saw you recently (or I would have bowed).

So....very, very quickly let me add that I am now officially the Indiana AZB straight pool King (anyone silly enough to disagree should show up at Betmore's Basement with $50 and we'll race to 150).

P.S. - Damn, I hope elvicash doesn't read this; he's been beating me like a freaking drum recently.

WBM, You sir, have action. My dynamic 14.1 is ready.

Prepare the table, clean the balls, I will cede you home field advantage if you feel you need it. I will play most places but your house is fine.

Let me know

Posted quick I see match one is already taken, I will take the winner of WBM and Steev. $50 wager is fine for me. We could play either 2 out of 3 race to 100 14.1 or 1 match to 150 either is fine. I would prefer the longer match.

Does the Dr. dare to put up the Betmore cup, I have seen it and I have been awed by the glory. On second thought I think that is a bit too much to put up as the real original Betmore cup is beyond words, but a King token is a good idea.

Perhaps the King action match between the King and the challenger and the victor will keep a token representing their right to act as King for their state. Different states different tokens.

I mention the idea of a token to represent the Kings right because in the past there have been players of the pocket billiards game who have spent their every last dollar. I really do not expect any sort of a prize fund to build up and I doubt we would see much action on these challenges if it is a 50 wager and you have to hold the money as king and cannot spend it.

Maybe I do not know the AZ poster world but I expect they will want to cash in if they put up a wager.

EC,
I like your ideas. I'm not sure what kind of token to use (the Betmore Cup is probably not appropriate - the security precautions necessary to prevent it's theft are quite a hassle).

I hope I can give steev a good game (he shoots REALLY WELL)....if not, perhaps I can shark him sufficiently to be competitive. Winner gets elvicash.

Does everyone agree that 100 posts is enough? I think it is unless we can look back and see where there posts are made in like the last week.

GP,
Let's make it 1 more post than whatever elvicash has at the time (that way I won't have to let him trounce me yet again).

If not, then one or two hundred should be adequate.:(

If we can agree on some sort of token for Indiana; I will purchase it to get the ball rolling.

Well I'm running into a problem with some of my Alabama players. The ones that I'm wanting to bust only have like 150 or even less than a 100. But they have been members for a while. Maybe we could do 200 posts OR 2 years member?

Works for me. Proceed with the A$$ WHOOPINS.

Jaden,
It looks like the California players are simply scared of you and don't want to risk playing for the AZBilliards King Crown and $50.

I guess that Corey didn't read this thread.

I posted a thread challenging AZB members and Corey came back wanting to know how much it was for. I told him and he thought it was too little, or maybe he's just scared like you said. Hell, I'd even come up and play him in his home room. He wouldn't even have to spend money on gas. LOL

Jaden.

Take it easy killer. Just saw this.

According to Corey it's ust because it's not enough money Joey.
