Gambling, the most I've played for was double up on $390 on one game. Played some games of 8 for $100, some sets for $200. When I didn't have any money, people wanted to gamble all of the time(it seemed). Now that I'm not as bad off, it's harder to find a game without being in a tough spot. Probably doesn't help that I hang out at the same hole-in-the-wall bar a lot. I'll play friends races for $5, sometimes giving up the nuts for $10 or $20.

Where I am it's,"Whack it and stack it".
My buddy and I play race to 6 for 100-200. If 5-5 we whack and stack (stop and double bet). If 6-0 it's ,"Double on the skunk (pays double bet).
Other night I had him stuck 550 and he said he wants to go double or nothing....SURE. Play 10-9 he gets a game plus 8 called in 9 ball. I won 1100 10-6.
We play 200-400 a set all the time. Give him tge 7 and all the breaks on a barbox in 9 ball...crazy game.
There was a young man who played a friend of mine double or nothing on a game 9 ball game every week, and I was licking my chops for this. As hard as I tried he would not play me until one night. It took me forever to get this guy going double or nothing on single games of 9 ball. We got to 250 and he quit me.
Don't know if this one counts but a single game in a Tap titeholders tourney for 2000. They have this one game tiebreak format in their team tourneys. Loser gets nothing and the team goes home. Winner moves on. That was the most pressure I ever felt riding on a game. Not only playing for the cash, but my entire teams hopes as well. We moved on that night.
Finally, when I first started competing in an 8 ball money league in LaPlata, most every week we threw into some 5-6 man ring games for 5 and 10. Those were tons of fun.

I played 1 game of 3 cushion billiards to 20 points for $650 to get even...I lost.
The most I ever played a game of pool for was $80 bucks a game, for many games. We started playing for $10 a game. This was 1981 in Tampa at a bucket of blood on N Nebraska AVE. I'll never forget that night. There must have been 50 people around the table at the last hours of it sweating & betting. I won that night, but don't remember exactly how much. I know it was over 2k plus a friend of my friend visiting from Detroit won a ton betting on me and gave me $500 jelly. Johnnyt

I used to play one-pocket for $100 a game when I was a teenager. I just used the inflation calculator and $1 then equals somewhere between $5.92 and $6 something now.
Using those calculations, I was playing for around $600 of today's money per game. Not bad for a 15-year old.

I played a $1/2 ring game back in the 80's, man that was a tough one. I never bet so much in my life!!
I "backed it and jacked it last night". Playing 9 ball on the bar table. Race to 9 for 100 went to 200. Then I got my nuts kicked in. Win the next two and busted even. Had fun though.
My uncle passed away and I wouldn't even touch his Gus Szamboti. I finally decided to play with it at a local tournament and the break and run was $2,500. I was picked and broke and ran out. There were 3 incredibly tough shots and one I made tougher than it should have been but I was jacked because I could taste it. Then I don't hit the 8 hard enough and have a long shot, almost like a long spot shot, I get down and two stroke and fire it in the hole.

cheap games like this were my bread and butter back in the day. Made far more in ring games over the years then matching up. It hides speed easier, keeps it fun, people would jump in when others jump out to keep the games going.
Ring games were the best gambling invention in my opinion.
Puerto la cruz venezuela........local pool place, I am only gringo in a place of 8 gold crown 9 footers.......I played the best of the bunch and the price kept rising per game (8 ball), by the end of the night about 20 guys were around the table watching us play. they would even clap on the good shots. the price per game kept going up and the guy had a backer and they would use white chalk to write the bet on the cloth......ultimately the locals were rooting for me as I can only guess this guy had beat their pants off in the past. the last game we played was for B11,000 which at the time was
$379 usd...........I sank the 8 on the break and he would not pay me......it got ugly from there and the owner told me I better leave or there could be real trouble..(I had said some derogatory things about him and his mother) ..........I left with what winnings I had made earlier. but that was one of my best nights playing ever! (3 rail banks etc, wow what a night!) :thumbup:

Played a guy race to 5 9ball for 20 . I ended winning last set for 320! Hill-hill and I shot a 1/9 combo where 1 was on head spot and 9 was on foot spot.had to cut 1

Was down at the Reno bar boxes this year and my buddy challenged Carlos C for me to play him a race to nine on the big tables for 100 that my buddy was covering. Sounded good to me. Then before we start my buddy gets nervous and wants me in for a hundred too. Ok no problem. We get hill hill and we reracked and stacked it. Now we're playing for $400 and I lost 9-7. So I haven't had enough yet so I lost another $40 shooting from the jaws to the far diagonal with the object ball mid table.
So later that night my buddy and I are sitting at the pai gow table and he's down at least twice as much as the $200 he lost in the pool game and he's still sore at me about it.
Anyway it was all in fun.
