And my response is that not supporting the event will trickle down and eventually hurt the players, as is evident by this situation. The players depend upon the promoters who in turn depend upon fan support. The new UPA sanctioning guidelines have ensured that the added money is there prior to sanctioning. The UPA did not sanction the 2001 US Open (where Mika was not paid in full) so they have absolutely nothing to do with that issue.

Blackjack,

Why was Mika not paid in full. He came in second. Was Corey Deuel paid in full? Why are some players paid in full and other are not. Like I stated before, do the Berhmans pull names out of a hat to see who does or does not get paid?

WHY ARE PLAYERS NOT PAID IN THE FIRST PLACE?

My big mistake was trying to deal with the UPA or Brady patiently

You obviously know very little about this situation. My phone number is listed in my profile, feel free to contact me at any time and I will let you know all that has been done to try and correct this situation. Quite simply, the UPA does not owe Danny money, Brady Behrman does. Brady has publicly and privately acknowldged his mistakes and his regret at the time it has taken to pay Danny. The UPA represented Danny Harriman even though he was not a member of their organization. They even went to court on his behalf. This situation did not get where it is right now because Danny posted on this forum. It is because ciommunication has been re-established between Danny and Brady. The communication is far from perfect and there are several trust issues, but the situation is being handled. You say you don't expect the UPA to respond, but in truth, if they did you would get a view of the entire picture, not just Danny's side of the issue. In speaking with all parties involved, you must understand that everybody has made mistakes (including Danny Harriman) in regards to this issue. As Brady so eloquently pointed out in his post, where were you when his event was being held? Did you support it in any way? If you didn't, then as a fan you remain part of the problem as to why Danny Harriman and many other pros are getting out of the game of pool. There are professional and private issues that have made this situation difficult for all involved. Most are unaware of how this has impacted Danny on all levels. Most people will berate the UPA, yet nobody will call Frank Alvarez and ask him questions. If you did call Frank, you would be more than impressed with his professional repsonse to your questions, and you would be very surprised when you find out that he is also working to find a solution to this issue. You would also find everything that has been done to prevent this from occurring in the future. If you call Brady, he will tell you why he came up short on payment. He will also tell you why it has taken him so long to correct this. He can't pay what he doesnt have, but he IS willing to pay. Once Danny is paid in full, the next step is work on communication between Danny and the UPA to see if we can get him back to the tour. Nobody wants Danny out of pool except the few people that seem to be cheering for him to stay away. I think that is sad considering all the time that has been put in to try and correct this.

It is so amazing how far some people can try to twist and contort a simple situation. I handled this situation well and was patient with Brady (and the UPA's Frank Alvarez). The fact that a player has no support from a so called "pro tour" when the promoter fails to pay a player should be a warning flag that pool in the USA is to say the least a bit un-organized.
I am offended that DAvid Sapolpolis or Blackjack would mis-lead the public forum and somehow assume I could be at fault for never receiving payment from Brady or the UPA. Please keep in mind that i never made a post regaurding this matter untill I had waited over 8 years for Brady or the UPA to compensate me.

Good grief -- now *that* was a hairball coughed up from the past! A 7-year-old thread?

Sfleinin

Something that is actually pool related - does that scare you sfleinin. Maybe you should right a book on the psychology of getting paid at an actual pro pool tournament - since your so smart. My guess just is the thought of getting 7th place in a tournament where many great players are present would scare you. Can you fathom it?

i am sure sean, as well as myself understand your frustration with not getting paid. what, at least i and i'm sure a few others, don't understand is why you would rehash this after 7 years. and rehash it by taking a shot at blackjack no less. i read the response you quoted and it seems dave didn't try to do you wrong. he said the party's all need better communication but that a pro league with you is better than without.
i'm just curious what you are trying to accomplish by bringing this back up? has something new happened between you and dave?

Danny Harriman is good for the game..

Danny,

I've followed you since your Sringfield days. You are being squeezed by both ends. The UPA and Behrman. For him to send the check to the UPA is totally uncalled for since they wouldn't represent you in the first place. It is nothing but a slap in your face.

I'm sure they'll take their $100 and send you the balance. Sometimes, someone other than you has the leverage. All you can do it take it.

But, I wouldn't forget. What comes around goes around. Some day you'll have the hammer. And, you better use it.

Business is business. Allowing personal feeling to get in the way is bad business. Remember your current feelings. Use them to your benefit next time.

Blackjack

Until Danny gets paid I'd rather not hear about how he's good for pool and we need good players like Danny. Quite frankly, without a public forum, just what chance does Danny have of getting paid.

Sit and wait??????????????.............palease!

Pool doesn't deserve good players like Danny.

I just need to say something.

I've known Danny for over 20 years. he has always carried himself well in regards to pool.

While living in Lees Summit Mo I really got to know Danny Harriman the person. Also Danny Harriman the player.

He organized a straight pool league there that I played in. It was great fun.

With Danny it isn't about the money with him. So this is what really makes it a tragedy when a guy like him doesn't get paid.

3 years is a long time to wait for the cash.

Hope you get paid everything.

Your biggest fan and friend geno............

Thanks Gene

Thanks Gene but the tournament in Virginia was held over 10 years ago, I was never fully compensated for it either.

Gene...You obviously don't know David Sapolis, because he also is a "stand up" guy, and straight shooter, when it comes to saying things. When he tries to act as a mediator, it's out of doing something good for the sport, and everyone involved. I have no dog in this fight, and don't know or care why Brady made his mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them. Who knows why Danny decided to dredge up a 7 year old thread, but taking a potshot at Blackjack is BS anyway you look at it.

I was wondering this myself. How this works fellows you get paid you dont you get paid you dont and you dont.

8pack...Really this is a dead issue. The thread is 7 years old. Everybody who is promoting pro events (at least here in the US) is paying all players, and on time. Even BB, who late-paid a few times, got the message and stopped doing it in the US Open 9ball tourney. This thread should just be allowed to die.

David is one of the best friends anyone could have

That was very well put Scott.

Blackjack is almost universally held in high regard by anyone who knows him. I remember back when Danny and John Schmidt were going at it and David really went to bat for Danny behind the scenes while trying to be a peacemanker

As for Danny, it has to be so frustrating to feel so screwed. I really wish him all the best as he tries to get past this, hard as that may be. He's a great player with oodles of talent. I hope he stays with pool even though it doesn't give much back in way of $.

***EDITED**** Ooops, I forgot to add something. I really, really miss John Schmidt posting on here. I hope he comes back. He is easily one of the funniest as well as one of the nicest upper echolon pro players.
