BB Players have be paid!!!!

I would bet the investors got taken also. As fast as they ran out of money (if it was ever there) someone skimmed a bit of it. I feel a little sorry for the players, but not much. The ABP has a lawyer. Did Johnny A ask his advice on the contract or a good business man/investor how the deal looked for the players and BB's future.

I don't know how many times the players are going to bend over and take it before they wise up. Johnnyt

Pool players have always bent over and took it. They live by the "Bird in the hand" theory. I remember a tournament years ago I was at that Steve Cook won. He had $10,000 coming. After the tournament they claimed to not have the money to pay and the tournament had not made what they expected. They began settling up with players and paying them pretty much what ever they wanted to and the players took it.

However, Steve Cook had a backer from Tampa with a bad reputation. He took the promoter in the back room and when he came out Steve was paid in full. I can only assume Steve's backer did not threaten him with a law suit. Sometimes what right is right with no excuses.

TJ is badass if it was him. Johnnyt

What? Where do they advertise besides AZ and maybe a few billiard mags? I have a feeling every subscriber, if they have any, learned about BB from AZ. Can you show me where they advertise to reach the millions of subscribers? BB exists in a subcultural pool world vacuum that is very very small.

Now now now, do you not recall that AZB was NOT "the target audience"?

We were told that more than a few times.

Bruce...Well why should they be? After all they only got FIVE MILLION page views just last month, and iirc about 170,000 unique visitors. Heck, hardly anybody comes here that plays pool!  JCIN would crap his pants to get that kind of viewership (all the while laughing all the way to the bank...and he deserves every damn dollar!!!).

It doesn't matter, the subscribers all wander through here. The results of every match will be know well in advance of the airing. Will people pay to see a match they know the outcome of that may even have been uneventful, we will have to wait and see. Where I live they replay the day before sports events, baseball basketball and football. They even edit it down. I pretty much never watch the replays even though I didn't see the game. Once I know who won I don't really care anymore.

Now ESPN years ago commented that pool is an exhibition sport. They commented they could show old matches from even years ago and no one would care, they just want to see the game played. They compared it to a rodeo. No one knows the cowboys or cares who wins, they want to see the guy fall off the bull. Difference is, ESPN is free at least if you are a cable subscriber it comes in the package.
As weak as BB was before, showing old matches played maybe months earlier with the results known can't help.

They need an emoticon for "tongue-planted-firmly-in-cheek", cuz that was the intent.

I thought more folks would remember how our opinions didn't matter, as we weren't the target audience. It was a regular refrain.

Now this is how it ought to be. You have two choices, you either pay or you dont, you either get hurt or you dont.

We at AZB would like to wish the Bonus Ball debt with us a very Happy Birthday. They ran ad banners with us in 2012 and have now gone for a full year without responding to any invoice or statement. Way to go, guys. You have made history as the only entity ever to just flat steal from AZB in over 15 years of our being in business.

if you'd like to PM me their "NET 360" invoice - i'm still on hold for Kim/Ken Spies. and i'll be @ Vegas in 3 wks....

I was an early "$199 season pass" subscriber, thinking I'd try to help out a new business. Had I known they were not going to play ball with the existing promoters I definitely would not have supported them.
There has been no communication to the PPV subscribers such as myself. I would have appreciated notices regarding schedule changes, cancelled matches etc. If they are planning on doing PPV/on demand matches for the next few years and could keep someone like myself as a multi-year subscriber I would recommend some type of communication.
In truth, the few matches I watched really didn't get my attention and probably wouldn't have watched any more even if it were possible - and I REALLY enjoy watching high level pool.
When prominent people in the pool world such as Jerry F and Mark G speak out regarding something it won't be without very good reason.
After following around 50% of the threads regarding bonus ball, I am of the opinion that they are trying to finish season 1 with the hopes of trying to sell the model to a TV network, most likely in Asia, or possibly and I consider this less likely as programming to a North American sports network. Either way I feel the odds are against a long term paycheck for the current players/teams.
I do see the fallout for the players over the next few years due to tournaments being cancelled, which happened in full or at least in part from bonus ball.

Hopefully bonus ball rights its wrongs and turns out to be something positive for our sport. However, I don't think too many organizations could recover from a first year with so many egregious mistakes. Mistakes which have to shake the confidence of an investor.
The good news is with so many organizations trying things and failing it should be easier for someone to come along and learn from these documented mistakes. I just hope the players aren't too gun shy if and when that happens.

Good post Jason and I salute you for signing your name to it......

I've no doubt the players will be paid in full going forward because surely, after the default earlier this year, JA and the ABP must have required BB to escrow all the ball sets.

I doubt that ppv is of any significance to the viability of Bonus Ball. My guess is that all they are doing at present is completing a mini-season, including later playoffs, to have something in the can as a "pilot season" to use in trying to sell the "show" to a TV network.

Heck yeah...pretty soon maybe they will be playing for $.10 on the dollar! What a great deal...but at least they're getting "paid to play"! LOL Pro players, at least some of them, have not been known to be the brightest bulb in the pack...but hey, it beats working for a living!

I'm nor saying its great but for a company that could have easily went bankrupt they made some effort..
If the price of pool lessons went down would u just stop giving them or work for less?

Probably stop, if it no longer enabled the person to make a living. If they require name players to make this work, the players are the product not BB. The players have bargaining power and deserve to be paid what they are worth. Now if BB can't make any money with their business model probably time to close the tent.

If as someone else suggested they are just making a pilot to try to sell then they don't even need the players they could use good amateur players and do it like a game show if all they are selling is the concept. There is so much about this that makes absolutely no sense. What the hell are they really trying to do? I don't think they know themselves. They started this thing with an idea or sorts and the tail has wagged the dog since they started.

The probability of this working in any form is like zero regardless of their intent. At some point they will stop throwing good money after bad and just announce honestly it is over. Hopefully they have the money to pay of all their debts and not just stiff everyone. There is no reason to really trust them. I remember going to a restaurant I used to eat breakfast at. I got there and the employes were all standing on the side walk and the doors were locked. The place closed and never told anyone. In fact the last day was a Thursday. They actually closed the day before they had to make the last payroll.

In hindsight I like the current plan which is to record the entire season in a few weeks and try to sell it. Lesson learned is not to build the Taj Mahal if all you want to do is record a couple hundred hours of pool footage.

They could have rented out the TAR studio and Justin could have worked an orange and purple light switcher.

Glad the players got paid. Not happy AZB or the Staff hasn't been paid.

Dam I would not even pay for it live now its going to be recorded oh ya I see that being a big hit.

I read this and started cracking up. I had a vision of standing in the corner just flipping a light switch on and off trying to keep the purple/orange cycle straight and hopelessly failing.

"Shit guys....my bad. Its purple now right?"
