Best way to Collect Money someone owe's you.

Well...if you dont have too much tush in ya or your soft hearted you can always sell the debt in front of the guy in question to a not-so friendly person. I have never been stiffed in the pool room but it did happen once outside the pool room. The guy owed me on good faith, of which he had none so I did the following.

I went to his job, sat in the waiting room daily for a week for at least two hours. Finally, the guy asked me not to come back that he would pay me. Now, he hadnt paid yet so what would gimme a clue he would now? So when I showed up the next day, he asked his boss for a loan, paid me and I was on my way.

Voodoo~~~persistence wins, always.

It's sad but true..I have a friend that's in the process of having to do the same thing over pool debts...i guy lives in North,La the other in Ky & both owe my friend right at 15k each on pool debts...the guys buying the debt charge up to half the debt plus they keep any interest or "juice that they tack on to the debt...i would suggest not taking this route unless the guys that owe show no intent of making it good....once you realize that then half is better than nothing...then the owers brought it on themselves for not righting a wrong.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I am calling the guy this weekend and going to ask him for my money. First attempt, If that doesn't work, I will ask him if there is a buy out amout he is willing to give me, maybe 75cents or 60 cents to the dollar. Don't know what I will do if this doesn't work. Don't really want to badger the guy becuase he has money, but if nothing works, I will expose him on this site so everyone knows about him.

What really drives me made is, when I go to the pool hall, hearing stories,
oh I beat so and so out of 600 last night:angry:. Or, yeah he was here last week and was playing 200 sets..

N,

DON"T call him. Do it in person. When you do, let him know if he doesn't make some effort to pay by XXX date you will be forced to let ALL your pool friends know about it on The Forum....

I also like the "take his cue" idea.

Good luck buddy!

I have several people that owe me money for several years now and want to see if anyone know the best way to GET PAID?. I know what you are thinking, " You should post". But you know as well as I do, we as players gamble with the almost the same individuals, sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but we always pay when finished. With stangers we always post.
Like this scenerio, have played this individual plenty of times, but this time, I beat him out of 800, he pays me 400 and tell me he will get me the rest the following day. Well guess what, years later, he still owes.
Any Suggestions?

Don't gamble on credit. Post the money up. If said player doesn't want to post then that should send a signal. There's a guy around where I live who plays on credit and he is always owing, but guess what, he still gets the same people to play him. Even if you are gambling with someone you know, I believe you still should post. It eliminates any problem from occuring.

Based on this statement, I honestly think he's forgotten....before you talk to him, try to recall all the details....where you were, the games played, how much, as many details as you can think of....if this guy is regularly playing $200 sets, I would NOT settle for cents on the dollar on a small $400 bet....he needs to pony up and pay his debt.....just be friendly, sincere, specific, and tell him you really need the cash....remember, more bees with honey....

Keep us posted...

Forgot that option!

I forgot the option of selling the debt! I have actually bought debt in front of the person owing it a few times. I wasn't in it to make a buck so I later gave the seller the rest of their money. Being a super nice guy in my younger years before I got old and grouchy people were always eager to pay me.

Take his picture with a digital camera first, then tell him not only will you post his name but every pool player with an internet connection will know his face.

I'm 100% Sicilian, so I like the old fashioned way. Hold a cocked and locked .45 to his head. He'll pay. ;)

next time you see him playing take his pool cues and case and tell him when he comes up with the $$$$ he will get them back, youll be surprised how fast the money he owes you becomes a priority. Ive seen it work here a few times in the last month or so.

I like this idea. I have a couple people who owe me and act like it is no big deal. Maybe when I hold their cues for them it will be a big deal.

Move on. The guy is never going to pay and the pool hall this happened in is not doing their job if he is still allowed in there...

I am against the take his cue for collateral idea, you have no legal leg to stand on since gambling is illegal and if you do this and he decided to be a jackass, you could go to jail.

If threats are implied the charge would be much worse, its not worth it.

The good ol' hold a .45/.44mag round in your hand, shake his hand and slip in to him while you are shaking it. While you hold his hand, let him know you have not forgot about the money he owes you. Sometimes it sucks to have to go a route that might lead to violence, but when you cannot be convincing that you are serious about your money, who will take you serious? Hope it falls through and you getting all or a portion of your money without having to do anything that might create bad blood. Good luck.

This IS the bottom line.

ALL you can do is intimidate and bluff a little and hope it works. Nothing further is worth it.

Remember N, this thread would never have happened if the $$ was posted up.

No post, No Play.

You don't even have to ask. Just take out your post and slip it in a pocket or on the light. They will be compelled to do the same. If not....break it down and walk.

It's a huge burden to carry around when people owe you money and aren't paying.

I had a cousin air barrel my Dad for $700. I carried ill feelings for years. My Dad forgave the debt and moved on. I never understood why he did it until I too forgave him. Then I understood. I released myself from carrying that hatred and contempt.

Never collect only 50 cents on the dollar. That gives the deadbeat a break. Just find a real tough guy and tell him to collect the $800 and you will give him $400.

Then just sit back and laugh.
