I love your commentary Billy, always entertaining. Some friendly advice: Dennis' last name is pronounced or-kulo. Every time you say or-coolio I think you are posing the question: Who is the better rapper ? Jay-Z or Coolio ?

Robert,

Some friendly advice: I don't think it is pronounced 'or-kulo'.:grin-square::):grin-square:

That is the American way and it is not an English name.

Haha, you are probably right. I know it's not orcoolio though. :D

Just a little morning fun with my coffee, this place is so GD serious. Life and death and namecalling. I guess it's just like a big pool room. :grin-square:

Does anyone know the correct spelling and pronunciation for Dennis' last name?

I have seen it spelled Orcollo and Orcullo.

Jay Helfert and Mr Incardona both pronounce it as Or-coolio.

Others pronounce it as Or-co-yo. The double el as the 'ya' sound of Spanish.

Does anyone know with certainty? Probably Dennis doesn't care, as long as they keep writing the checks.

Similar to Efrem vs Efren...he just smiles on the way to the bank.

Indeed

I have heard commentators pronounce it so many different ways - really wish they would ask Dennis how it pronounced and stick with it.

Thought the same thing about Coolio (the rapper).

It's one of those names that can be slaughtered in any language. They can't even agree on a spelling. (they spelled it Orcollo on the screen).

Spanish would probably be something like or-cool-yo

It's tough to pronounce to begin with, but Billy's is closer.

So what is your alternative?

The double L is tricky in languages influenced by Spanish....
...sometimes it's 'lyo'....sometimes it's 'll'.
For the family name of Dennis, it's a double L....
...the same way it's pronounced in Black-Ba'll'ed.

I believe it is somewhere between 'or-cool-yo' and 'or-coolio'.

We don't be making that sound in 'merican.

I'd say if that's how Jay pronounces it, then there's a good chance it's correct.

Dennis has stayed with Jay on multiple accounts, and maybe Jay has asked Dennis how to pronounce it.

Plus, he's reached that level in the pool world where he's reached first name only status, like Cher or Elvis. :grin-square:

I understand the reason but it's not.

It's pronounced Or Koo Yo. When it's spoken quickly it can sort of sound like or coolyo.

Jay started the or coolio thing when he was pronouncing it or cool o and they corrected him to or koo yo, he just over accents the L sound. There's a bit of an L sound but it's minor.

The best way to spell it's pronunciation would be OR-KOO-l-YO, with a diminutive l before the yo.

It does get kind of annoying to hear Or Coolio all the time.

That's how I've always said it, before I even heard anyone else make an attempt.

People must remember that FIlipinos dont pronounce the double L the same way as the Spanish and Hispanics. The double L does NOT become a "Y" it becomes a "LY".

So its "OR-COOL-YOH"
