Blackjack, book ETA?

So I went to Lulu.com and the book was not there yet. Is it in the printing stage yet? I am going to Idaho/Montana in a few weeks and will have plenty of time to read it.

So I went on to Lulu and Amazon looking for the book and I could not find it. Is it not available yet?

Here are some sample diagrams:

This is a off-topic but since you posted this particular diagram in this thread, I'd like to ask my question here: When you have a layout like this one, what do you do when there are no good break balls close to the rack?

The 1 and the 4 balls are less than ideal break balls due to their distance from the rack. The 2 and the 8 might be potential side pocket break balls. The 5 is a potential break ball but needs to be nudged into a better position, however, it's not clear yet how to do it.

So with a rack like this one, how does one decide now which balls should be the break ball and the key ball? How does one decide upon an action plan this early in the rack?

Hmm, perhaps by asking the question, I've stumbled upon a viable answer to it. Since there are no good break balls at the moment, perhaps the best approach might be to try to nudge the 5 ball into a better position. The 3, 6, 14, 2 and 7 balls are all potential balls that could be use to help navigate the cue ball into position for a shot on the 10-5 cluster that might reposition the 5 into a good break ball.

If my Plan A fails, then I still have a Plan B using the 1, 4 or 2 balls as less desirable but still viable break balls.

In racks like these where a course of action isn't obvious, it would be great to have a "knowledge base" (using pattern recognition) to guide one through these unfamiliar situations.

Blackjack, good thoughts to you as always, best to you and yours....looking forward to another great book!

Blackjack, Any word on when the book will be ready.

I'm looking forward to buying asap

David, how close are you to the final edit? Please keep us updated.

The final edit has been completed. The book is finished.

The problem is that I had to close my school. I'm trying to recover from that. I have had the information posted on my website for almost 2 weeks.

Though the book is completed, there is a good chance that I will never publish it or make it available. I have my reasons for that and it is doubtful that I will change my mind about it.

World Champion Thorsten Hohmann is in the process of writing a 14.1 book. I'm not sure when it will be finished, but I would highly recommend his book.

David,

Sorry to hear the news as I'm sure it would have been an outstanding book to read and learn from.

Since your book is now completed, I hope that someday you'll have it published.

ah man that's horrible news David. Alot of us we really looking forward to reading and buying this book.

I'm sure you have your reasons why your not going to publish it. But please rethink your decision and publish it. It would be such a shame to let all those hours of work that you put into it goto waste.

David I would like to add my voice to the mix and encourage you to publish your book too.
I was looking forward to it and it saddens me to think all of your knowledge might not make it out to the rest of the pool world.

Just the few comments you have made to me about pool have made an amazing difference in my game and my view of the game and especially 14.1.
What ever your reasons for not publishing should be weighted against the reasons that you should publish and I hope your final decision will land on the side of publishing.

Either way you have my best wishes for success in what ever you decide. I also hope to meet you someday and see you play and win a pro match.

I know that would be a lot of fun for you and me both!

Whether you publish the book or not, I certainly wish you the best in your future projects.

I've benefitted from the free instruction you've posted online, and Lessons in 9-ball is the next pool book I plan to purchase.

I still want it.

Me to! I'm just getting into straight pool (very humbling game!!) and have been waiting for your new book.

Much to think about, and we're not in your shoes. Best of luck in whatever you should decide concerning the book. Take care and keep that good advice comeing. I luv reading the 14.1 forum!
