Up for sale is the first batch of Mark Bear full spliced blanks - being sold by Bell Forest Products.

They are Bocote spliced into Birdseye/Curly maple.

The blanks are 1” at the joint, 1-3/8” at the butt, and 31” to 32” long.

Price is $75 each.

Can you estimate the length of the points if the cue is turned to say .840 at joint and 1.250 at the butt with an overall length of 29 inches.

I knew that was about to happen when a few weeks ago Mark announced that he was going in with Bell Forrest to make these. Letting them in on some of the profits gives them an interest in furnishing better grades of wood. A very smart move on both Mark and Bell Forrest's part. Very nice looking blanks by the way. Congratulations on a fine looking product. As quickly as these sold out I'm sure it's not going to be long before a price increase though.

A slightly involved equation would give you the exact finished length of the point but for the sake of a speedy guesstimation, try approximation by percentage.
The points right now are 11.5-12".
The jnt dia. is 1". The finished jnt. dia. is .840".
A difference of 14%.
The difference btwn. now & finished, at the butt is 9%.

Since the points will be reduced in length nearer the joint, we can concede 1% to the influence of the butt dia. and now consider the difference in point length btwn. now and finished at 13%.
The points will be reduced in length by approx. 1.56"

Finished length of the handle will have very little bearing and will be only slightly influenced by which end that you remove mtrl. from.

i really didnt mean for that to sound like a complaint or an accusation
just that it's some of the sweetest bacote i've seen from bell
eric & boone have treated me good,
no complaints at all with thier selection available to us

So, technically these are Bear bottom blanks? Or would they be Bear butts?

Thank you for all of the feedback.

First, I do want to point out that we haven't been 'holding out' and sending all of the good wood to Mark. This was a trial run. We didn't even look at the Bocote squares before they were sent to Mark! These particular turning squares were bundled in a shipment we received and they weren't even unpacked. They were shipped directly to Mark. I know it really doesn't matter and it was stated as a joke, but we want you guys to know the truth...

Again, this was a trial run. We wanted to see if people would be interested in buying full spliced blanks and we are asking for feedback from the guys who did get them. The focus wasn't turning a profit on the first run, which is probably why they sold so fast. In the future, you will see a price increase on these blanks. We are a business and we need to turn a profit. It may not be a huge increase, and the price will depend on the species of woods that are used.
