Invitiational events.
Althougth it is probably correct that a promoter "can" include or exclude anyone he desires; the question should be "what is the right thing to do"?
When a promoter or event planner decides to use words like "World" or "US OPEN", they are putting up themselves to be examined by those same boundaries.
It is improper (IMO) to hold an Open event and it not be open. Likewise it is unjust to hold an world event and to exclude competent players based on personality conflicts.
If these titles are expected to be taken seriously, then they must be conducted in a professional manner. Personality does not belong in the selection process - the criteria shoud be ability.
Grady can be abrasive at times - but he can play pretty good straight pool at times, too. And I thought this was a pool tournament.
I am hoping Randyg will rethink some of his positions on the events he is considering. Evidently he has the where-with-all to sponsor events - hopefully he will sponsor them for the right reasons and get the right results.
This is not meant to belittle Randyg in any way. I don't know him but would encourage him to contact me to see if there is any way we could work together to improve the world of pool.
