bye bye ustream.tv, justin.tv & livestream.tv? Can we do it?

There is currently a thread here discussing the problem we have been having with our ad server. A number of well respected users indicated that they were having no problems because they used an ad blocker when they visited the site.

I don't think many hard core billiards fans really care whether an ad is pool related or not. Ads are annoying and people want to avoid them.

Mike

Ad blockers have come into play because of those intrusive and overwhelming advertisements on the free sites. They've fell into the pot of greed and let their sponsors dictate the business model more so than as respectful consideration to making a buck.

A site that caters towards billiards and technological themed advertising campaigns would not be so intrusive, I wouldn't think. We know the billiard industry contains those with a dose of "high intellectualism" more so than other hobbies. In my years observations, of course. Heck, I think I'm one of them. :)

I have a question from the consumer side if I may?

Let's say I want to watch your live match of "Keith Mcready VS Ronnie Allen - one handed jacked up one pocket race to 10 for a case of beer".
(Just an example of a match I would actually watch) :)

What exactly am I getting? PPV? HD? Ads? Buffering stream?

I guess I am looking for the pitch in simple terms explaining the product..

Thanks

Wow! You just lost all credibility with me, with that little nugget of wisdom.

I'm deeply saddened that you base my credibility on what I observe and watch. That is exactly the role of an individual that is selfish and ignorant.

Anyone that associates themselves with him, after what he has said and wrote to people, tells me everything I would need to know, as far as doing any business with them.

Who said anything about associating with him? Just because I said he has one of the best open minds in the billiard industry, I'm exactly like him? I don't know him, I know of him.

In plain English (which is non-existant here) it would be NONE.

Everybody else on what is AZB:
"A pool forum"

You on the same question:
It is a hyperlink on the world wide web consisting of hypertext markup language written to form a software package natively titled vbulletin, where the general populace congregate to form a entity that discuss billiard related topics.

Let me clarify for the first letter and last letter of the English alphabet. A and Z.

The last time I checked the slogan for AzBilliards is "The A to Z of Billiards and Pool", not 'A pool forum'. I believe everything stated in this thread surrounds if not falls into the emphasis of this forum.

Zach.

Is this deal where you fight and insult and berate the major current providers of the content I would suppose you are looking to service part of your original business plan or is it just working out that way for you?

Thanks

Wow! Selfish and ignorant? Did you really say that? Maybe you haven't really sweated enough of Marty's Crackpipe Fireside Chat's to call someone like CaliRed "selfish and ignorant"... Remember last week when I gave an opinion on business associations? Well, Marty gives that guy break, ball in hand, and the 7 in "crazy".... A lot of people thought that guys like Jim Jones and Charles Manson had the best "open minds", how did that work out???

Have you noticed in the past 2-3 years how there has been a sizeable increase in the amount of pool matches and content on the internet? Well CaliRed has played a big role in getting it there. Maybe you don't realize that but I, among others, do and he gets nothing but respect from 99.9% of the posters on here. You're out of line talking to him like he's a chump.

You catch a lot more bee's with honey, remember that.....

"Selfish and ignorant"?

Have you checked out the thread where Calired shows the tribute that he put together for Grady Mathews? I trust you've heard of him....

Greg did that.

Selfish?

Ignorant?

Pot, meet kettle.

Sheesh.

Dude, you may very well have the cat's ass with your plans. I do not know, and have no reason to doubt that what you claim is possible. But I will tell you this....unless you change how you handle the public relations aspect of the business (i.e. how you interact with people, potential clients and potential customers) you could have the greatest thing EVER INVENTED and you still won't be able to sell it.

Take a breath. Step back. Listen to what some of the folks involved in this thread (very, very knowledgeable folks, with plenty of experience in this industry) are saying to you. And try to treat people like you would like to be treated.

Good luck, and I mean that sincerely.

I would love to watch that, if it would ever appear. I'm a consumer myself.

We all will be in luck very soon! The B side of our venture is in the works currently that may catch a match extremely similar to that. Many great matches go unseen because there isn't anyone or anything there to record it. Let alone the time and expense to stream a 'one off' match like that.

By August we will have 2 billiard halls in Columbus, Ohio online focused on the popular tables where great matches commence. There will be a sign at these locations on or around the specific tables in which a number to call, or a text message to send which activate our server to record footage. (or at least signal a time stamp to retrieve the correct buffered video)

These cameras are relatively new to the market and their main purpose is for security surveillance in Casino's or where high detail imagery is crucial.

On OnSitePool.com we will be seeing much footage of one off matches, that likewise, no one would ever get to see or even fathom happening online.

This will reinforce the seriousness of our venture. Not only are we trying to organize the billiard streaming industry to be more profitable for streamers, but the overall contribution to the billiard industry will be bar none!

What exactly am I getting? PPV? HD? Ads? Buffering stream?

There is no telling at this point how OnSitePool.com content will be reviewed. What environment or nature of the layout.

I can say this much. The only content that will be able to be viewed in HD for free would be all 1 time broadcasts of all major events. It depending on special circumstances occasional re-runs.

With tiers of membership for viewers to join the OnSitePool.com experience from every angle, memberships will be as cheap as $5.00 a month if paid for a whole year up front, or $7.95 monthly.

Thanks for your great questions.

Zach.

Justin,

Did you think it was a good production?

I think it is compared to the rest of whats out there and the resources I have at my disposal but what I think doesnt really matter. Thats why I asked you what you think because I can't fix what people do not like if I do not know what it is.

Perhaps if you would like to tell me what you didnt like I could work to address those concerns in the future.

I didn't have a choice Kevin. I used conservative words to convey my disappointment. It's nothing personal.

What I find bizarre when a positive thing is said about another individual, and that individual "is on the bad list", you immediately become an outcast.

I'm appalled by that analogy. Immaturity would have been an another conservative explanation.

Zach.

Zach dude I think you may well be on to something here!

But alas I will never know because I tuned you out immediately based on the title of this thread.

Epic fail, right at the starting block.

Just shaking my head.

I actually never heard of him.. Oops. As you can see I don't frequent AZB regularly w/ only 100 or so posts I'm a far cry from a veteran. And I've never came across his videos. I owe him an apology.

Well I don't want to increase the bulge ..

What exactly is in this title that has everyone so bloody disappointed about?

I hope that everyone knows that Justin.tv/Twitch.tv is referring to a live stream site for gamers, and not Justin from TAR, right?

Man the AZB rhetoric has got everyone so tightly wound around here. What gives.

It kinda like you are what you eat, with respect to that you are also judged according to who you choose to quote / emulate. But I have no doubt that you understand that, from your posts I have learned one thing in no way can anyone say that you are ignorant or that you don't understand exactly what your doing and how you present yourself.!!;)

No one should be judged first of all.

I get along with just about everyone I personally know. There are few who've posed in this thread that know me personally and would vouch for my credentials, dedication, and experience.

And I surely don't emulate anyone but myself. I've past the childhood trial and error phase.

I think what started everyone walking in with a chip on their shoulder was the thought of justin.tv was a direct referral to Justin with TheActionReport.com. Certainly this was further from the truth.

First, you're "deeply saddened" ??? for real? I can answer that, no, you're not saddened in the least, it's part of the condescending delivery you have, which I will explain further down.

You know "of" him? Well, if you knew "of" him, you would steer clear of him. It doesn't appear that you do know "of" him. Here's a easy way to find out who he is. Do a search in this forum for Marty Herman. Read the threads and then come back and tell us what you think "of" him.

In fact, read this one post of what he wrote to someone because they wanted to stop dealing with him, once the found out "of" him. I've seen this behavior myself, first hand, so I can attest to it. You would also see that this is common behavior for him, from a lot of people. So it's not a few people here and there.

Ummm... it seems my sarcasm completely escaped you. I had you pegged as someone that would get it right away, judging by the way you're speaking in this thread.

The sarcasm was where I posed a hypothetical question of "What is AZB"

Everyone else in this forum would have replied "It's a pool forum"

Now the same question posed to you "What is AZB"

Here would have been your answer, based upon your posting style in this thread.

"It is a hyperlink on the world wide web consisting of hypertext markup language written to form a software package natively titled vbulletin, where the general populace congregate to form a entity that discuss billiard related topics."

Now do you get it?

Your posting style in this thread seems like it's been ran thru a BS generator. It's almost like you're trying real hard to take a word that would commonly be used in a situation, and substitute it for some uncommon word in order to make you seem like you're above everyone else. Once again, please refer to my example question above and you'll see what I'm getting at.

This style of speaking is typical of sales people or politicians. You ask a simple question and they ramble on with 3 paragraphs of lots of big words and confusing phrases meant to put the person in the state of "What the hell did he just say" When the person is done talking, the actual question was never answered. You know the type. You ask a politician if he is for or against abortion and 20 mins later, you still don't know whether he said Yes he was, or No he wasn't. There's a reason for this kind of speaking.

It allows them to not answer the question. Why would they not want to answer a question? Well, lots of reasons. This allows them to play both sides of the fence. It allows them to appear they are on everyone's side. It allows them to have lots of wiggle room. From a salesman's standpoint, it allows them to sell, which means they make more money. If a customer asked a person selling a cleaner, if it got rid of a particular stain, they're not going to tell the truth. They're going to go on and on, twisting and turning, avoiding the question. If it's a politician, and they're asked a specific question, they want that person's vote, so guess what kind of answer you're going to get.

I'm all for anyone following thru with any idea they have to revitalize pool. Your idea may be good, but it's like pulling teeth to get straight answers out of you. You'll see that trend in this thread. You post a wall of convoluted words and people are just asking you to post in English.

There are a lot of educated people here, that speak normal English. You can too, if you turn off the BS engine. I went thru some of your previous posts from earlier years and you weren't doing that then.

Go back and see how many times, various people have said "I don't understand what the hell you're saying, are you saying this"? That means your BS filter is working at 100%. It's doing it's job.

You're wrong if you think this kind of way of "talking" is making you look more intelligent. It's not. It's making you look like you're a salesman trying to put the moves on people. When people can't understand what they hell you're talking about, and they point blank tell you that, and you respond with more BS speak, then that tells them you're hiding something.

Nobody trusts someone that can't answer simple questions with simple answers.

You have a condescending way of talking to people, like you're above them. You're not going to sell any ideas that way.

You're coming off as fake to me. There's been comments on how one would not want to hang around you, because of the way you come off. I have to say I have that feeling too. You seem like you would irritate the hell out of me too.:D

So, there ya go. You wanted some feedback, there's mine. Yes, I know it doesn't address any of your "idea". It addresses your delivery of the idea. That's pretty important too. You know about that "first impression" line.

So take it for what it's worth. I'm a educated, common sense, down to earth man, who's been in IT for the last couple of decades. That's who I am. I have a passion for pool and I love to do what I can to contribute to the pool community. That's where I'm coming from.

I'm done, as I'm also the type of guy to say what I got to say and leave it at that.

Oh.. good luck

C'mon Guys!

Come on guys -

NOBODY thinks there own baby is ugly.

Zach has some interesting points - many of which have been espoused by such greats as Tony Anngoni, Big Truck, and even our own CMBSWU with "Felt Nation".

In fact, Accu-Stats has made offers to some streamers (MI_Billiards and Live2Ustreams) to do the exact same thing over the past ten years. But that is not relevant here.

I agree somewhat with Calired and 100% with Justin (from TAR - not .tv)

Even IF Zach could get past his rhetoric with the current streaming community he does fail to remember that OUR sponsors are reading this missive also. Even if WE were interested I would bet that Diamond, Simonis, OB Cues and others might find fault with us for "gambling" on an unknown entity with no track record to back up his claims.

His model is simple.

"Here's the kicker. We need a couple of the larger streaming bodies such as TAR, PoolActionTV, InsidePoolTV, GBST, and among others to pony up their sponsorship rights. As a whole, more revenue would be generated. Distribution of the collaborated advertising revenues would be based upon impression and click performance. Just as many large internet conglomerates are doing today. i.e. Google, Yahoo, and Facebook."

Zach has bandwidth costs which he passes on to the streamer.
The streamer's cost is reduced by the revenue generated ascribable to his or her stream.

Revenue's exceed our cost - you stream for free. Costs exceed revenue - streamer pays the difference. As time goes on and more ad revenue is generated more streamers stream for free. No need for Pay-Per-View to cover the streamer's cost. One tiny problem that I see is that Zach has to figure in the ancillary costs ALL professional streamers incur. Usually DWARFS the bandwidth costs (which do decrease on a unit basis the longer we stream). In general, sponsor contributions are only factored in to the streaming bandwidth costs in a small way.

The great thing from my perspetive as a former Certified Fraud Examiner is Zach's willingness to keep track of ALL the revenue generated and the asociated costs and to provide the streamer with a detailed breakdown of his "bill"'

HD - no matter what the server is able to cover, 1000, 750, 500, or 2 if the streamers upload speed from the venue is 300k-400k - HD will be hard to create for the viewer.

But I digress, the great thing that we at AZ will get to see, long after this thread and the diatribes get pushed to page 5, in that Zach and OnSitePool have the perfect beta-tester already lined up with the newly returning TVMike. Comparisons will be able to be run, webpages will POP with sponsorship, and we'll all be eating our words.

I look forward to future streams to see how this all pans out.
But REMEMBER, REMEMBER there is WAY more to streaming an event than streaming. Otherwise it's just a camera or two pointing at a pool table.
