C a s e ...... C o p y c a t ???????

Aside from the fact that Spider-man is the subject of both cases, I don't see where I would exactly call the one made in China a copy of the Cyrex case. More like two interpretations of the same theme.

Has anyone answered the question of whether either maker of these cases obtained a proper license from Marvel to begin with? If not then they are both unauthorized use of a licensed subject.

I guess we can agree to disagree. Imo, it would have been easy enough to make a new 'Spidey case' without using the exact same images Cyrex did...

It's pure coincidence. lol
I love the argument you can't display work here b/c it's liable to be copied too.

While they aren't direct copies there was no need to directly trace some of the art work. There's plenty of Spiderman images out there they could have used. The flames and blue 'smoke' stuff I do freehand but the drawings were definitely traced.

LOL I guess the other 99% of AZ is seeing this wrong. Obviously those cases look nothing alike.

Of course its likely to be copied, look at all the cases coming out of China. What would you expect?

Rex,
Those who know, know how you feel. To say those cases aren't using your layout and design skills would be like telling Charles Manson he didn't commit murder.

Its good to know that they still need designers because the ones they have have no clue.

Must be the teacher.

I think the one Cyrex did is NICE I think the other SUCKS! So it can't be a copy...Since Instroke John has done alot of copies...Now for the tributes WTF why would anyone want a copy it is like production cues...I like the real ones.If I buy a Balabushka it won't be made by Adams.

That's unfortunately the way it is. Anywhere on the net where products are displayed the risk is there that someone else is taking those images for the purpose of duplicating the product. It's not an argument, it is reality. A crappy reality but one that exists nonetheless.

If it makes you and others feel better all of our images have been stolen and are currently being used by another case maker in China who claims to have made the cases in our pictures. When someone orders one then he makes a crappy copy for them.

Your cases are stunning. The Chinese replicas are nice too. But paddle in comparison.

You and the case maker should be flattered.

I think this sums it up best. Plus your case is defferent from there spider man case.

Case stuff

Just for the record, I can actually draw somewhat.
These are from my art portfolio. I drew them in 1996.

Great Casemaker

Cyrex (Rex),

If I were asked to name the top case makers in the history of the world on just one hand, your name would surely be on the list.

It is so exceedingly rare to find all the necessary and requisite skills to be in the top five, including artistic talent, leather worker, construction abilities, a great eye for color, along with the necessary ingredients of character and respect. And you are swimming in every element.

I consider myself fortunate to call you friend, and yes, I hold your capabilities in very high regard.

I would not allow copiers to frustrate my day, if I were you, and if I owned your Spidey case...... Trust me, it would be clear that you made it, and I would be as happy tomorrow with it as I was yesterday.

Congratulations again on the skill with which you designed and built Spidey, and also to your friend Kenny for the heirloom in his possession.

Again ill ask ...Did you get marvels permission before putting there character on your case? If not why is ok for you to steal?

Believe it or not, it's actually totally legal to draw, paint, sculpt, or tool anything you want.

The Spidey case was only posted in The Gallery section because it was never sold. I never used Marvel's images for profit (illegal part), because there was no profit made.

Anyway, like I said, I don't really care about the copy cases. I didn't start this thread. The only thing funky to me is that they used my exact drawings in their designs. And really oddly, was that they probably don't even know what the Chaos symbol is or where it came from (LoL). I'm not going to repeat a case design so it doesn't really matter. I'd much rather move forward and try to learn new techniques than worry about someone copying my past stuff. Heck, just come to one of my workshops and I'll even show you in person how I do flames or whatever.

I know Kenny is upset as he wanted a truly one-of-a-kind cue case. We'll do something new buddy and we won't post any pictures of it. =o]

Fair enough.

Fair enough? That's all you are going to post after your verbal diarrhea on this thread?

Without any fact, you accuse a man of stealing. How about a fvcking apology?

Actually it is stolen...he is a thief. But it's a waste of time explaining why to people like you.
