CB or OB - Did I Misunderstand?

i just wanted to post this separate thread regarding the old debate of what do you look at last - the cue ball or the object ball.

did i misunderstand here, perhaps? i've always said that i look at the CB last when i shoot. now, am i correct in the assumption that what people are referring to with the word "LAST" is what you are looking at when you strike the CB?

after i strike the CB i've noticed my eyes pretty much immediately shift to the OB. the time it takes for the CB to strike the OB can vary, depending on whether its a short shot or a long shot. but are some people that say they look at the OB last really meaning that just before the CB contacts the OB they shift their eyes to the OB? meaning they are indeed looking at the CB when they strike it and then shift to the OB before the collission?

Did you read the book that Scott gave you? The part about PEP, Personal Eye Patterns?

Wow, only you...

Neither one imo.
You should look where the CB has to be upon contact to make the ball.

It depends. The important thing is, before firing at the money ball, always look at your opponent last. It helps send the message of "in yo' face, sucka!" :D

Don't think about it. Just shoot and have fun.....eventually you'll get better. Hit a million balls and you'll see improvement and realize how annoying all of these posts are. Good luck.

Looking at the object ball last. Always.

When stroking through the cue ball, keep your eyes locked on your target. For superior results, get locked on target before stroking--staying locked-on through the stroke.

To all of those whose game will jump up following this lesson, checks can be mailed to me at Tiger.

Good point, I assume that is consistent with what most instructors teach?

And to DCP, yes when people say they are looking at the OB last they are talking about before striking the CB.

As a student of SPF you should have already gotten this instruction. I believe it is in the materials you received. You should vitually always look at the OB last. The rare exceptions are (e.g.) jumps, kicks, masse, and possibly breaking.

When you hit the cue ball with the tip, your eyes are focused somewhere. When you shift your eyes to the OB is part of your eye pattern. This temporal point (at contact) is the "last" we are discussing. If you are watching the tip hit the cue ball, then you are watching the CB last. However, your eyes should be on the OB last, i.e., when the tip hits the cue ball, you should be looking at the OB. Again, when you shift from the CB to the OB is part of your eye pattern. Some do it at set, some at pause (i.e, and extended stop on pause for eye shift).

I don't think any SPF instructors teach or advocate what you are suggesting. If there is any debate, it is because you are soliciting one for an untenable position...

I think in your case you should look at the CB first, last and always. Forget there even is an OB and just fire away. I think the results may surprise you. You'll probably make more balls and have more fun.

Just remember, "hit 'em hard and hope!" Six pockets means six chances to make a ball if it's rolling fast enough. I do not charge for these valuable lessons, even though I know I should. If there's anything else you want to know, please don't hesitate to ask.

I'm very good when it comes to holding the cue properly (two hands for beginners), proper stance (one foot on the floor and one on the table provides excellent balance), and effective stroking (lunge, don't plunge!).

Pretty soon, you'll have students of your own to coach along the same path that got you where you're at today. Congratulations on the remarkable progress you have made already.

LOL! And you guys say he isn't a troll. I stand by my assertion from before.

He's either a very, very, very good troll, or is certifiably insane. :D :D :D
