Challenge matches from Galveston

Then i guess you didn't watch one of the 1-pocket matches several months ago during prime time. Plus, some kids do stay up to midnight watching pool, especially on a weekend. Can you tell me, did you as a teenager always go to bed at 10:00?

Also, the TAR coverage of Gabe and Chohan's 1 pocket match up that was on PPV was ridiculous. Any one, even if they were not necessarily a teenager or a pool player, could tell who TAR favored and who they didn't favor in that match-up. I can see why that DVD was never released.

This is a very disappointing thread. While I didn't see the match, I am quite surprised by the amount of grief the two players are getting for playing for 4K.

I told a few people yesterday on the chat (when we were all wondering in the afternoon if anything would be streamed at 1pm and then 4pm), that the players AT the event prolly think it was a success but from the stand point of streaming, the fans will prolly think it is an unsuccessful event. It's s shame, too. But I for one am happy for any stream. It was free, and I'm still happy. Yes, the camera and lightning wasn't all that good and yes there were no schedules of the stream posted, but I am still thankful for what I did get to watch this week.

Do I think they can learn - sure, everyone can.

I think the guys who put on the tournament will be surprised how much the complaints from the stream are going to hurt their report of the event. Hind sight is 20-20 and I hope they put more importance on the stream next time.

I just really hate that Gabe and Frost are being kicked down the road so badly. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I this is an opinion forum after all. :thumbup:

go to the ustream room and watch the match and see if your opinion remains the same. See if you'd want your $4000 going to this "challenge" match.

as a teenager words like sh*t and ass didn't bother me which is the worst of what is in the chat. The people saying other words get quickly booted.

If those same teenagers go to pool halls I'm sure they've been privvy to much harsher things. As for TAR's coverage, it is by far the best offered. Accu-stats is pretty good too, but TAR's interaction and customer service makes everyone else fail miserably in comparison.

the unfortunate thing for the fans is the fact that playing pool professional & acting professional are two diifferent things...Pool itself really doesnt have the guidelines in place for that to ever happen.

Triggger, I understand what you're saying and commend you for being a loyal fan of pool in general.
But you have to understand the passion one pocket fans have for this particular game. The way they were playing, if it was 9 or 10 ball not too much would be said other than they just were having an off day.

To play one pocket the way they did was to totally disrespect it and offend it's fans.

I put off some commitments to watch two great players of this game and to a race to six instead of three. What A treat I thought it would be.

I've seen Scott play many times and pretty much know his game but I haven't seen Gabe play much but knew of his one pocket skills and I wanted to see some of them but never did. I was very disappointed with the disrespect shown to the great game of one hole.
 
Oh, so kids don't learn on their own pool tables at home? Perhaps they don't go to bars to learn.

Also, if the pool industry seeks to reach out to the public to become a more acceptable national sport, like horseracing, etc., they need to keep the sewer language off of the streams and off the tv tables -- no matter what time of day they are broadcasting. Would ESPN except such language? How about the IPT or Big Truck. They do an excellent job without the cussing.

But, perhaps you're right. Let's go back to the Preakness Stakes and re-forecast the race!

Oh, yes, here comes that *od *amn filly, Rachel Alexandra, down the stretch. Boy, is she a *ucking good filly beating the *ss off the colts! I wouldn't be surprised if one of those colts, like Summer Bird (not Mine That Bird, because he is a gelding) might get some after the race!

Wow, perhaps they're missing something and could use some better examples from TAR! Keep the pool industry in the sewer language. Maybe the public might respond and start cussing all the time!

I'm just surprised that TAR's sponsors put up with that kind of trash talk. People usually associate sponsors with the performers. That's why I believe Pepsi dropped Michael Jackson after the pedophile charges (whether it was true or not). Like I said, I don't even see the need for the cussing. And it doesn't matter if your a teenager or an adult. It is just disrespectful to the audience.

I thought you were talking about the chat room and I know that cussing doesn't go on in there. I agree that the commentators probably shouldn't cuss but the only time I heard any cussing was late night at derby city when some had been delving in the sauce. If it bothered you that much I'm sure they'd be happy to refund your $25 or better yet, I'll refund it.

TAR isn't immune to mistakes either, but they do a lot better job than anyone else, imo.

Also, BigTruck is my boy, so no slight to him in any way. I was just talking about the major entities in PPV streaming right now.

I appreciate your insights into why the match upset you. I, too, love one pocket and was taking lessons in the Winter and although was already in love with the game, fell in love with it even more. I did watch the match as Vette suggested and while disappointed with what could have been better play, I still don't think we should give all this grief to Gabe and Scott. Just mho, of course.

Again, I do appreciate your insights, Frank. It sheds light why you and others are so upset.
 
No, it was during live streaming of a one-pocket tournament right after the Gabe/Chohan PPV match. It was right before Chohan was arrested for the drug problem. When they were commentating the match, TAR cussed quite liberally throughout the whole time. There were even a few complaints about it on the chat board at that time from viewers.

It's not just about doing a great job technically. But if you show extreme favortism, like in the Gabe/Chohan PPV match, or you don't respect the audience while you are live streaming, those people will get turned off, maybe not from pool, but from TAR's streaming. Like I said, I just think it is unnecessary and an affront to the viewers, and it will hurt TAR in the end. TAR needs to be objective and fair to all competitors when they are streaming a tournament, and be professional about it like BigTruck and IPT. I know IPT messed up on payouts, but they were sure professional when it came to streaming, tv tables, dress codes, etc.

All I am saying, is if the pool industry wants to become a more acceptable public sport, they have to keep the needs of the public in mind.

So you say you're seeing & hearing what goes on in a pool room & around action. If i'm not mistaken that's what they were shooting for with TAR, so job well done. Oh & if you don't like it don't watch.

The poster was talking about TAR matches, many of which were shown at all hours. So your sarcastic stab really makes no sense. BTW I don't recall a lot of bad language on the TAR streams I have watched, but some of the people they've had on air weren't doing much pool commentating. Granted these were on the free streams, as the ones we are seeing from Galveston.

The thing that is lacking for me is that the Galveston stream is not continuous and they are not posting info as to when the next match is coming on so that you know when to tune in(at least I don't see any such info).

So, messing up on payouts is one thing but cussing on one TAR match is causing you this much angst? Well, I am sure they didn't intend for the cussing to happen.

Oh, yes, I guess the sponsors would agree with you. If there are 50% of the viewers who don't like it and decide not to watch next time; and the next time there are a few percentage more, then Pool streaming will go downhill instead of increase their audience. Good idea!

I dont see how this has anything to do with the poor choice made by Gabe and Scott last night. Maybe a nice PM to JCIN would be a better way to make your point and get results.
