TAP TAP TAP. i also tried to cancel at 2-2 through pms and on the chat. both people i was betting with said they watched the entire match, but didn't see the chat or the pms, lol. i would not have expected to get paid after my pms if gabe had won, but that's just me. not to mention, the PLAYERS decided to change the format from a race to 5 instead of 6..wtf??? i will probably only bet with a very select few from here on out.
But you know what? That is what happens when people don't know what they are doing. That is not a knock or an insult to the promoters it is simply the truth. These promoters are getting a PHD in the pool business the hard way and they are paying Ivy League tuition for it. Hopefully it doesn't scare them off. Anyone who can fade this and keep going is someone who could be good for the game.
I think that is maybe going a little far, they didn't do anything to soil their heritage. These 2 guys made a very poor decision on how to handle prosperity, they didn't rape a horse.
I was disappointed in the match because I am afraid it will have lasting effects on future exhibitions. Hopefully the group of players as a whole will get a mulligan.
BTW-- who ended up winning this debacle??????
Just wondering. If there are complaints of Gabe and Scott's "unprofessionalism", it can be said the same for whoever put on the Galveston World Classic. Why didn't they get some professional streamers to do the job, someone like BigTruck (or at least get consultation)? Why did they repeat over and over and over the same match yesterday? Their organization of the event sucked sometimes. There were many complaints about that. For example, why did they keep the viewers in the dark so much about what was coming up?
I used to promote country music benefit shows. The very first show you had to be professional. You had to have professional sound technicians for promoting the type of shows we did out of Nashville and Branson. At our VERY FIRST SHOW we ever promoted on our own we used John McBride (Tina McBride's husband) when he was in Wichita at the time and then when he left for Nashville, we obtained the services of another professional sound technician. We also used professional performers from Nashville and Branson.
Believe me, if we had put up some tiny amps in the auditoriums for the performers, and did an unprofessional job at promoting, we would never be able to book them again.
In other words, this tournament brought in the best players in the world -- too bad the promoters didn't have the forsight to use some professionals in the field that knew how to put on a major production such as this.
Oh as long as we are shooting the bull does everyone know the $50,000 for first place amateur 8 ball team event got downgraded to $9,000 for first place? True story. Discuss.
Most certainly, the issue of their "guaranteed" monies and how that plays (paysout in the next few days will be interesting to see.

JCIN did they still pay out 10k for first in the 9ball amateur? I saw that Justin Hall snapped it off, beating Shane Manaole in the finals.
Why do you think they extended the one pocket finals all the way til Thursday? My guess they have caught a disease called fundsrlow. Come today, with more $25 a pop admission fees they will have the money together to payout to the winners.
Also - maybe JCIN or someone in Galveston can find out - are the exhibition matches being paid out by check? Is the 'winner' being held accountable for this on their taxes? If not, that is another reason why there could be a chop in these events. Corvette called this work and when I work, I have to pay taxes to Uncle Sam.
Also Corvette, compare this to the blue chip athlete that gets paid $20 an hour to watch the grass grow at some boosters property. You think he is going to say, hold on a minute - I am being overpaid and this is not fair. Again, it is human nature. I admit, if you read my post, the promoters would have been better to put their money elsewhere to try to PROMOTE their event. 1500 real or fake viewers on Ustream doesn't get them much. I do wonder how much Ashley Furniture paid for that banner. It appears they reached out beyond the pool world for funding/advertising.
These promoters are not streaming or AV guys. They are organizers and promoters who have hired out almost everything. The person they hired to do the streaming is responsible for the stream. Now you can make a good argument for being responsible for hiring the wrong people but just like Mike said ...you don't know until you really know. They know now.

Ashley has a couple of nice displays in the entry way. They are giving/raffling (not sure which I will find out today) away a $15,000 furniture package as well.
The Thursday final has been planned since the event started. I know this because Ric mentioned that they told him to schedule the tournament to finish that day when he first got here. If they are counting on spectator admission to pay anything they are screwed.

My take on this, after I just watched parts of the review.
I tried to stay awake for this comedy, and luckily I fell asleep. If I were awake, I would probably try to cancel my bets on this match, but I can understand those who would not want that. No problem at all.
As far as I know, these challenge-matches was also on the website to the partner of Galveston World Classic, www.betus.com. This means that the public had a chance to bet on the outcome of this match, not just us who had sidebets here on the forum.
I felt that these two players were spitting in the face of the promotors (Taylor Road) and their businesspartners (www.betus.com) who expected a real one-pocket match between two of the best 1-pocket players in the world, and they acted disrespectful to the 1000+ online-fans, and to those who watched the match at the venue.
If pool-players wants to be treated as professionals, then they sure need to act like professionals. This was just pure stupidity.
I have lost $ 3,300 on two big challenge matches this year, and paid off without being mad or anything, but the $ 150 I lost on this comic-show actually made me angry. I've paid off the bets, btw, I am not angry on the guys I bet with. I am angry at Gabe and Scott.
I remember Gabe Owen starting a thread here about a year ago, looking for sponsors.
About 1 month ago I was part of the group who sponsored Max Eberle to the World 14-1 Championship. I can promise that I will NEVER do the same to any of these two players, after their performance last night.
I pretty much agree with JohnnyT, I will not buy or support any PPV that these two players happens to be involved in.
I lost all respect that I had for these two.
