I think he was asking if moderators can view pm's between two members

No, I cannot.

It has been said that it is a feature that is exists, but is not installed.

I had no opinion, either way with regards to whether or not he should have been banned, but I will say that the mods have no choice but to lead by example and do what they say, or all is lost, including the overal viability of this forum.

You're relatively new so let me explain something to you: this board was JUST FINE BEFORE THERE WERE ANY MODS. Mike took care of the drastic problems, as few as they were, and no one was afraid to post their opinions, popular and otherwise.

If a moderator SETS HIMSELF UP to be challenged, do you say he had no choice but to follow through with a ban? There is a disconnect with reality here, but that's okay, as long as you agree with the "official" reality.

I've said this before, and despite me coming to like the man personally, I think Dave Wilson is a HORRENDOUS moderator. He doesn't have the personality for it, and it's not his fault. Banning Jimbo is absolutely ridiculous.

The other long time members, I won't call you out by name but you know who you are...What do you think about this? Do you speak up and risk a ban, or do you keep mum and hope your paths never rub shoulders with the moderator?

I haven't shared any of his messages to me.
I don't recall ever seeing you post anyone's PM's but you have mentioned the term "behind the scenes" in other scenario's where people were banned.

I think a more acurate way to ask what I believe Bigtruck was trying to ask is... "Do you hold private conversations with members against them when you ban them"?

Because you've mentioned this before and because there is no mention of private messages in the posted forum rules, it seems a valid question so that others like Bigtruck and anyone else will know. I think most people take private messages to be private and since they're not disrupting the board and no one else see's them (providing they aren't posted by someone), most people would/do assume that PM's are a place where they can state their side of an argument in a "neutral zone". A place where they can state their disagreement with you or anyone without "publicly undermining the moderators and the viability of the forum".

Like I stated, I didnt really care or not if Jimbo was banned. I have had virtually no interaction with him, until today, although I have read many of his posts in the past.

I think it is important to remember here that this forum is NOT a democracy. No one is protected by the first ammendment or any other rights of free speech. If the mods feel something is inappropriate, than that is the law of the land. No one is forced to participate here. If someone doesnt like the rules, they can go play elsewhere.

Well, here is my take on all of this (I know you have all been waiting on pins and needles)....Varney stated that he had done some cue work for Kristi in a public forum and she got worried that her sponsor would see it and get angry that she would let someone else work on her shafts, etc. That is understandable. But, I think it was very unprofessional of her to blast Varney in the same public forum. I think a better way to handle it would have been to simply PM Varney and tell him that he may have messed up for posting he works on her cues now. Instead, it has caused yet another "this side is right" debate. As for the Hitler pic.... we have all seen what a pic like that can do and can rub some the wrong way, so it was out of line IMO. Have a Happy New Year everyone.

I did....in Jimbo's poll thread, but that has since been deleted.

IMO, banning JimBo for failing to comply is unwarranted and inappropriate. His posts in question do not seem to be over the line. Who knows what he did or said in private...that's between Dave and him. It's unfortunate, though, but the forums here at AzB seem to be losing some of their luster. Censorship is always a lose/lose....any way you cut it.

What an original sentiment. "If someone doesn't like the rules, they can go play elsewhere"!! You won't be in danger of a ban anytime soon, I'm sure.

Not to mention we lost Landsharks post. It was my vote for funniest of the year. I say we petition Dave to bring it back...

In a word, yes. He ( Jimbo ) was asked on numerous occasion to tone it down. He took just as much offense in private as public and was given a previous ultimatum regarding his public behavior.

Because you've mentioned this before and because there is no mention of private messages in the posted forum rules, it seems a valid question so that others like Bigtruck and anyone else will know. That is just the point. Rather than publicly berate him, he was asked in certain terms to stop his abuse to posters. Many of them offered their own complaints of abuse in private.

People seem to think that if you send an abusive PM or Rep that it is a private matter that does not affect their membership.

Trust me, if I get a complaint, I do follow up on them.

The stream of complaints regarding Jimbo was non-stop.

EVERYONE who is a member here deserves to be able to post without being called a moron or an idiot at every turn.

If someone continues with the destructive behavior in spite of, despite and in utter disrespect....not because of what they were asked to stop but rather because it was asked by myself......when does it end?

You're assuming she's sponsored by Lambros. She might not be. Mike may not even know who she is.

Nope, I live in Tipton, OK. I used to live in San Antonio, TX. My wife is from California, we visit often.

Why? Do I know you?
