I may get blasted for this and I'll take all the comments....

Upfront know that I tried to PM Danny, but being his box is full I decided to post instead.

I was excited to be able to order Danny's recent DVD of his recorded 14.1 run. I gladly sent in the requested $40 dollars and anxiously awaited my package to arrive. Today the package arrived and I was quite upset over what was inside the package.

A plain cd jewel case that cost roughly $0.05 when purchased in bulk with black magic marker written on the top of it. Inside the case a plain Sony DVD+R with no markings. Personally for $40 dollars I expected a half decent regular DVD case with cover and a printed DVD. I have done duplication and know that that what I got with shipping was less than $5.00 in materials. I can't see how the asking price of $40.00 was anywhere near appropriate for what I received. I have attached a picture of the case and dvd and would appreciate any comments whether they are positive or negative.

The case is closed in the picture so the writing may look like its on the DVD, but its only on the outside of the jewel case.

Classy. How could any one blast you for that...I'd be piss too. My guess, with shipping $4.25. If you're selling a product and decide to duplicate it yourself, take the time to print a cover and buy a printer that will print on a DVD!!! $150 investment.
What's the quality of the content?

ahhh yes i actually just finished that thread.....however you will not find my "*****ing" calling danny names or anything of the like. I did read it, all 3 pages of post. I will personally give Danny a deal on DVD Duplication and DVD insert the size of a regular CD. I am sure I can beat the price that Mr. Jewet posted for Danny as well. He is free to call me anytime @ 484-357-2125 to give me a total count of how many dvds he would like duplicated and printed up. We are all entitled to our own opinions and I spoke mine. I did not bash him in any way, it was me simply stating what I felt. Had I saw the other thread I would've posted. My apologies for not seeing it.

If I spend $40 on a DVD I expect it to be properly labeled. There was nothing written on the DVD! It shows no respect for the people buying his product. If you're proud of something you take the time to make it right.

I might share your opinion if the DVD is being sold by a middle party who is profiting from each sale. If the disc is from Danny himself, I say scroll the secrets on a dry leaf and let them blow in my direction. The player SHOULD profit heavily and value is in the lesson content, not the disc cover's "window dressing."

D-man,
My sentiments exactly.

I've ordered mine already (not arrived). If the lesson shows up scribbled with crayon on old, used fish-wrap newspaper; I'll STILL be grateful for the lessons. I want to learn how to play pool; NOT show off my fancy jewel cases.

This is A POOL FORUM; NOT A "DVD COLLECTORS" FORUM. Those of us who care about the wrapping need to rush in their subscription to the new magazine "DVD AFFICIONADO" (Danny H. will NOT be on the cover; and neither will I).

Dave,

I saw your post last night and I meant to get with you privately about it. The packaging may not be world class, but the content of the DVD is awesome. I will try to get in touch with Danny later today and I will tell him about your offer.

You're paying for what's on it--- not the label. I mean, it's ONNNNLY the highest run ever recorded in human history.

+1. The content is worth more than the $40 Danny charged.

1). This thread happened already (see post #2)

2). The guy who started this thread would have it retracted if he could, and apologized for starting it (post #4)

Move on, people, nothing to see here.:D

Landon watched the 280 ball run DVD. I watched the DVD separately. We'll watch the DVD together. We'll each watch the DVD many more times. It's that good!

Danny put into 2 hours what must have taken him thousands of hours to learn. This DVD shortens Landon's 14.1 learning curve. And this ol' fellow learned some new tricks too.

Thanks, Danny.

Hey old feller... lol

Get that young man into shape and get him into the Straight Pool World Championships next year - We're losing ground on the Europeans and he is one of our best hopes for the future!

What really stands out with this DVD is Danny's ability to explain the complicated stuff in layman's terms. For those of us 14.1 purists, it is by far the greatest learning tool made available since Accu_Stats captured Mike Sigel's 150 and out against Mike Zuglan. I will be adding this DVD to my 14.1 Intensive Course - and I will strongly urge all of my students to watch this run and take notes on Danny's superb commentary - I'm sure that you will probably do the same thing, Stan. Hope to see you soon!

Wow!!

I thought that you being the techie that you are, would appreciate the digital content and not the packaging. I saw you at the World 14.1, so obviously you appreciate good play.

Maybe you can make up a pretty label and cover for your copy.

How does it look once you put it in your player??

Blackjack, Landon works almost daily with 14.1. Landon does have potential in 14.1. In Jacksonville (July) during Landon's best 14.1 match he had a 47 ball run midway thru and closed that same match out with a 36. He won 125 to 89. His first ever 14.1 tourney win.

Perhaps one day you can spend a few hours with Landon. It sure didn't hurt Danny. Appreciate your work!

Stan

Landon is always welcome - it would be an honor! Good to hear from you! Keep up the great work, sorry I missed you in J'ville.

First I would like to say that I intend to buy the DVD. I didn't think to buy it directly from Danny in New Jersey last week. What I can tell from this thread is that the content is worth the money.
Secondly, I would suggest a professional label to help cut down on pirated copies. If someone buys a copy from a billiards retailer or directly from Danny, watches it, and then sells it on ebay, I would not know if I'm buying an original copy or a duplicate. Danny could come out on the short end of this. Most people who make and sell illegal copies won't take the time to make it look professional.

We ought to be grateful that pro players are now able to put out instructional / commentary videos like this using technologies that are available to them.

To expect them to become expert producers and DVD printers just increases the barriers.

For this reason I recently decided to offer a service whereby I provide the cover art and DVD printing and other fulfillment services so that such videos can reach the market more easily and have the basic qualities that we expect of a DVD, such that we can recognize the contents by the cover and it looks fine etc.

So if anyone owns good video content or is producing something that pool enthusiasts would enjoy, feel free to contact me.

Colin

Stan, hope you don't mind me butting in, but I just wanted to say that a 47 and a 36 in the same match IMPO is notable of a person who already has way more than just "potential".

I don't know Landon of course, but if you tell me he's a youngster, I know what I have to do next...... :banghead:

Great play!
