These threads tend to get out of hand, imo. I'm an American through and through, yet I respect the sport, and any player, from ANY country, who can play my sport at the highest levels. I agree, in principle, that it would be nice if sportsmanship were better controlled. However...at the same time, there is a valid reason that the Phillipine players are the best on Earth. They "shark" each other mercilessly on a daily basis...and the best players continue to play well regardless. I believe, as was mentioned earlier, that if you cannot master the mental side of the game (and that includes blocking out sharking), you will not excel at the highest levels. All of the players exhibit the same ability (or lack thereof on occasion). It's those who have the ability to keep their minds clear that rise to the top, on a given day. Any kind of sharking behavior, by fan or player, is a poor substitute for good sportsmanship...but be that as it may, the BEST players must rise above it all, and do what their inner minds know that they're able to do. Here's the ultimate bottom line...When you're at the table, nothing and nobody can keep you from performing at your peak...except yourself.

Even though Team America did not win this time, I still am proud of each and every one of them, as representatives of our sport, for our country. To Team Europe, I say congratulations...and WATCH OUT next year! :D

So who was it sharking Ralf on the last two balls for the win? Not Mr Sportsmanship Morris. It was our good old non-playing friend Earl. Calling out when your opponent is in play is reprehensible enough. When you're not even playing is beyond contempt.

You really need to decide if you want pool to be thought of as entertainment or a sport. It's not a sport without sportsmanship and respect for the rules and your opponent.

Hmmm, the term "football hooligans" comes to mind. Point being every sport has its rough edges. Sometimes people like to pretend sports are a lot more lofty than they really are. They are competition and shenanigans go on in all sports, because it happens in pool doesn't make pool less of a sport.

So, when I tune in the Mosconi cup on Fox, I'm going to see a hockey game instead???

Look, you don't understand football, so don't try drawing an analogy to it. It's not a sport. It's a way of life. It's a shared cultural heritage. It's how people all around the world identify themselves in a way no other sport comes close to, and you clearly don't understand because you're not part of it. Despite the massive Irish immigrant populations and travelling support from both sides of the divide, not one drop of Northern Ireland's 'troubles' leaked over into Liverpool or Glasgow in all that time. Football rivalries left no room for mere sectarian terrorism. And can you name another sport where a disputed penalty award ended up in war between two sovereign nations?

Total class act??

The guy who throws a pacifier at his opponnet? While on a TV table being beamed to 239 million people..??

The guy who invites his opponnet outside to fight, after getting his ass kicked with the same 239 million people watching?

The guy that had his Mom and Dad on the front row?? Maybe we now know why he tried to to be sneaky with the 'throw'.....

His Mommy and Daddy were watching.....

Yep...that's class.

No question that earl did shark daryl a couple of times and that was evident by the referee disciplining earl on 1 occasion but, that does NOT excuse daryl from challenging earl to a fight and then going on live international tv and calling earl "scum of the earth".

Poor show Daryl, poor poor show.

He had to challenge Earl... his mommy was watching...it probably would have been spanky if he didn't.

Is this how we respect the late great Willie Mosconi, by bickering and insulting each other???.... If that's what the Mosconi Cup is about, then scrap the whole F-king event, because I can only imagine that Willie Mosconi is looking down and shaking his head in pure disgust and disapppointment.

FWIW, I feel that USA Is and always has been THE country with the best pool players in the world, and I will always have that belief, but there are many other countries that are able to play the game to a great standard and are now giving the best players in the world, a serious run for their green, and I say hats off to 'em :)

LOL! I was sitting right behind the Team Europe players and his parents when it happened and I thought, poor mum must be upset that her boy needs to resort to challenging this bloke to a fight, but his pop was probably thinking, "kick him in the cunny!"

No kidding, I keep thinking how tough that Asian tour must be with all those great Filipino and Taiwanese players. Those countries are stacked with badasses.

I just hate posts that put us down because of what happend in the 60's. We're not dating our sisters and chewing tobacco in our 1970 model trailers down here all the time (there are plenty though). I had to take my white sheet off my head to post this (once again, total b.s. and a joke). Apology accepted, I knew you were joking and just wanted to defend my great state. I'm sure you understand;) I was alittle rough on you as well so I apologize.

I agree fully with Jay also. But lets not forget that Peach is just as classless IMO for throwing something.

MY whole family is from Blounstville, Alabama about half way in between birmingham and Hunstville, a little closer to huntsville and I know exactly that mentality about us all marrying our cousins and sleepin with our sisters and it's just a friggin joke how some people actually believe that crap....

My friend from Cali never let's me live it down that one of my like fifth cousins had a crush on me and her mom was trying to hook us up. ....

If the "dazzler" fights anything like arm punching, sissified HATTON there's no doubt EARL would lick him...
Oh my God Ribdoner! What has it come to that a guy in a dress can call a champion like Hatton sissified. We should separate professional pool players from professional boxers even in losing Hatton showed the heart of a champion. nuff said!

careful Willie...I'm as big a fan of Mr Mosconi as the next 14.1 lover, but He's not totally innocent. It's well known about his "behavior" at more than a few exhibitions.....not to mention the time he sucker punched the ref of his match on the podium right AFTER getting his check for ?2nd place.

and on the "soccer" "fooball" issue....I watched exactly 1 game until a guy faked getting tripped....grabbed his leg like a sissy mary crying for mommy....the opponent got a yellow? card for the guys acting ability....then seconds later the "hurt guy" pops up prancing off to meet his boyfriend! that was the last time I watched that........"sport"

HATTON.....CHAMPION????????? Maybe at 125 or 130lb but at 147 he can't get there. There are WOMEN who rotate their core better and punch with more power.

I thought early on that his strategy of trying to break MAYWEATHERS right hand with his melon was doomed to failure. I think he did damage his right in the 8th rd cause it was a left that knocked sissy boy into next tuesday.

Upon arrival of my new, updated bullshit deflecter I'll be sure to wear my best T for the photoshoot:)

Just to set the record straight. I'm not pro Europe or pro Philipines or pro any country for that matter when it comes to pool. What I am is pro Pool. I am for the sport and anything that dignifies it and makes it stronger.

That being said, Darryl Peach is a total class act, as are all the Europeans that played in the Mosconi Cup. He is a sportsman first and a true competitor in every sense of the word. The captain of Team Europe was also a class guy and a smart leader as well. It took a lot of prodding to get Darryl so riled up, believe me.

I can also say the same for all the members of Team USA bar one. I said it long ago and I will say it publicly again. Earl's behavior is disgraceful! He is absolutely the worst sport I have ever seen in any professional sport, BY FAR! McEnroe ain't close. He transcends bad sportsmanship and borders on insanity. It's a fine line between genius and insanity, and Earl has crossed it.

I will not sit idly by while excuse makers find reasons to condone Earl's boorish and inflammatory behavior. This is a man operating in a different reality from the rest of us. I saw it first hand this week.

Tap, Tap, for JAY.

Back when Earl and Mike S. were the best tournament 9 ball players
around - they both had a reputation for whining.
The very important diference was, Mike would be pissed at himself
for olaying less than perfect, but still find a way to win - usually.

Earl, when playing poorly, would invariably look for someone to blame,
usually his oponent, and find a way to loose. He was even known
to leave tournaments if he lost in the early rounds.

Bottom line - he was an extremely gifted and capable player,
but was a crybaby and a wus - looks like he still is.
