Daryl Peach is on mega tilt!!!!

I would like to say that's probably the only reason Euorpe won, but I won't. :)

Who was jibing who? If I'd paid good money to watch a match, I'd have a go back if someone, player or not, was having a go at me. You can call me all the names under the sun, but you won't put me off my shot. It's about time players got their heads out of their arses and remembered who it is that makes any game what it is. It's certainly not the players. Sponsorship, prize money, and TV exposure doesn't happen because players are playing. It happens because sponsors believe fans are watching, nothing more, nothing less. Without fans you could be the master of the pool universe, but you'd still just playing your mate in the pub.

It's a sharking tactic. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yes, we'd all noticed you don't play it very well. Probably why most Americans think pool is a boring sport.

I know you don't think it's been fun if you don't get to sing your national anthem at the end of a competition but face facts, you can't actually sing your national anthem anyway. It's not really a national anthem if you have to pay someone to sing it for you is it?

Team Europe wins the Mosconi Cup.

Five-time WPC Champion American Earl Strickland defeated the 2007 World Pool Champion Daryl Peach.

Doesn't that make his win meaningless?

I thought Daryl had control of his emotions. In the WPC he showed a lot more composure. I thought he was invincible but I guess not.

I know many Brits enjoy a steady drink and a good fisticuffs from time to time but Earl has been working out SERIOUSLY and is in great shape. If Earl hit Daryl with one of those arm weights he wears, Daryl would be counting limes for a week. :D

The only scrap I ever saw him in, he ended up on his butt after 1 punch. He got up though and kept running his slly pie hole only to sound sillier tham before. When everybody left and he could get no more attention, he got pretty quiet.

Earl gets sharked and will continue to get sharked because he is the easiest pro on the planet to shark. What child would not have figured this out by now?

ermm... no.

With the key word being BORING!

sorry jam gonna have to take issue with you on this. it's an amazing game and it's the most popular sport on the planet for a reason. there is NO sporting event quite as fun to be at as a banter filled football match with two sets of supporters giving it all they've got.

"the way they act" is unique to british culture. it's wonderful banter, pure and simple. the problem is you will always get idiots who's intentions are less than pure and instead of cheering in good fun bring hate into it.

i'll sing all manner of of expletive filled songs at a match and afterwards two sets of fans will sit in the pub and get along fine and banter with each other. the thing is a football atmosphere doesn;t work as well at a pool event because the few idiots who just want to cause trouble can actually be clearly heard because the venue is smaller. and with a player like earl, we then get problems.

plus is doesn't help that earl, being american, is lost on the the culture of the british fans cheering and chanting and interprets it as mean spirited and that adds to the tensions.

but bottom line is, earl kicked some serious ass with a lot going against him.

These threads tend to get out of hand, imo. I'm an American through and through, yet I respect the sport, and any player, from ANY country, who can play my sport at the highest levels. I agree, in principle, that it would be nice if sportsmanship were better controlled. However...at the same time, there is a valid reason that the Phillipine players are the best on Earth. They "shark" each other mercilessly on a daily basis...and the best players continue to play well regardless. I believe, as was mentioned earlier, that if you cannot master the mental side of the game (and that includes blocking out sharking), you will not excel at the highest levels. All of the players exhibit the same ability (or lack thereof on occasion). It's those who have the ability to keep their minds clear that rise to the top, on a given day. Any kind of sharking behavior, by fan or player, is a poor substitute for good sportsmanship...but be that as it may, the BEST players must rise above it all, and do what their inner minds know that they're able to do. Here's the ultimate bottom line...When you're at the table, nothing and nobody can keep you from performing at your peak...except yourself.

Even though Team America did not win this time, I still am proud of each and every one of them, as representatives of our sport, for our country. To Team Europe, I say congratulations...and WATCH OUT next year! :D

I think your on the right track, but it's not sharking, it's big time exposure and the pressure that it brings. You could set a bomb off under me and I wouldn't bat an eyelid. But the first time you're under the spotlight on the big stage you just never know how you're going to react - stage fright etc - until your there. In snooker I've seen hundreds of amazing amateurs fold once they make it to the big time and never recover. Pro's like Tony Meo, who broke records sweeping all before them on the way up choked when they stepped up with the big boys. Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan by contrast breezed in like they owned the place. That's the real difference. Big match temperament. You can't buy it or coach it.

You really need to decide if you want pool to be thought of as entertainment or a sport. It's not a sport without sportsmanship and respect for the rules and your opponent.

You mean like football, basketball, baseball AND soccer?? Right....

It's that kind of thinking that has relegated whatever your country is to a 2nd or 3rd rate economy.

But you see, being able to step up and handle the pressue DEFINES Champions...which Tony Drago is NOT.

But hey, you gotta love him for losing his cool and throwing his cue across the room...and THEN accuse his opponent of being a bad sport!!

His logic is about as circular as yours!!

And hey, Team USA had won 4 straight and 10 of the past 11 so you guys have to get lucky ONCE in a while.

Do you even have a national anthem? Oh, yeah, something about God shaving the queen.
