Everyone says how lucky 9-Ball is and how anyone can win a short race to seven. I want to dispel that notion once and for all. I've always said the best players get there in the end.

Out of 340 players, look who's left in the 9-Ball division today. 21 players, and young Jeremy Soussei gets the bye. Currently playing are Ralf Souquet, Rafael Martinez, Francisco Bustamante, Johnny Archer, Mika, Shane, Darren Appleton, Stevie Moore, Lee Van Corteza, Rudolfo Luat, John Morra, Rob Saez, Niels Feijen, Thorsten Hohmann, Jon Hennessee, John Brumbach, Adam Smith, John Schmidt, Mike Dechaine and Brandon Shuff.

Only a group of the best players in the world. The cream has once again risen to the top. No matter what the rules are, and how long the matches are, the best players will find a way to win.

Who would you bet on to take the all-round at this point Jay?

I have no idea of the points standings but it seems Brumback, Hennessee, and Schmidt should all have great chances still.

Thanks for the update, Jay. News from the event is hard to come by. I couldn't even figure out the standings when I was there!! You were the only one who posted a chart of the standings during your Fatboy challenge 10-ball tournament. I'll be pulling for SVB or Archer; but 90% of these top players could win it.

Both Brumback and Schmidt are in the high running for the all-around. Although if Luat or Hennessee wins the 9-ball, they'd probably take the all-around.

Schmidt is not eligible because he didn't play in the banks.

I just realized that by watching his post match interview with insidepool after winning the one pocket. I don't think he's known as any kind of top banker but any kind of points he could of acquired might of won him a lot of dough.

When the room is full of top players its a pretty sure bet the last man stannding is going to be a top level player.

I doubt that anybody with a teaspoons amount of knowledge would bet a b player is going to beat a pro player in a race to 7 because of luck, period for that matter. But many a match (in any skill level) has been won and lost because of "bad rolls" (LUCK).

My thoughts on it dont count for much, but when guys like Dan Louie, Earl Strickland, Larry Carter, Jack Madden, and Buddy Hall say the game was better befor, because shoot out takes the luck out of the game. I'm going to have to think they all know what they are talking about.

Looking at that list I'd say there area few guys on there, that had they played Shane and Mika back to back would have already packed their bags, without some type of divine intervention

Fourteen players left, here are the matchups:

Morra vs. Melrose
Smith vs. Brumbach
Appleton vs. Luat (both have no losses)
Lee Van vs. Ralf (both have no losses)
Hennessee vs. Thorsten
Shane vs. Sossei (Shane is undefeated)
Archer vs. Shuff

Everyone else has one loss.

Morra 7 Melrose 2
Smith 7 Brumbach 5
Luat 7 Appleton 5
Ralf 7 Lee Van 3
Hennessee (Pinegar) 7 Hohmann 5
Shane 7 Sossei 5
Archer 7 Shuff 2

Nine left; Shane, Ralf and Luat still have no losses.

If I am correct about Ralf's past DCC 9 ball wins, if he wins the 9 ball again this year, he will have won it 4 out of the last 8 years. That would be a 50% winning record for the whole thing over 8 years in one of the, if not the, largest and arguably toughest tournament fields in the world. Unbelievable!
