Did Barry Behrmann ever do this?

Just curious. Back on March 19th Barry Behrmann in a press release here on AZ said:

"I will also, 60 days prior, have my SunTrust U.S. Open account available for all to click on at anytime you wish and see the added money along with paid entry fees."

Did this happen? Has anyone looked at the bank account?

Do you know of any way for your personal bank account to be viewed by thousands of people? I doubt any bank would allow any such thing. I think he was blowing smoke.

In a word, NO !
There is also not a full field as of yet.
Still hoping it will fill up !

My thoughts exactly.

Instead how about just contracting with any number of companies who specialize in handling things like this where they can keep the public informed of the financials.

Highly doubt he will ever do this because the money isn't actually guaranteed, regardless of his claim that it is. It is the amount that he plans to pay out IF the gate proceeds turn out as he hopes and IF his food and drink sales are what he expects them to be and IF everything else falls into place as he hopes and plans etc. A perfect example is the year the blizzard or earthquake or whatever it was (forgot now) kept the spectator attendance low. He didn't didn't pay out all of the advertised added money and his excuse was the blizzard kept spectator attendance low and he didn't make enough gate money to be able to pay all the added money that he advertised and promised. Essentially the "guaranteed" added money is a meaningless claim as it is always dependent on something else and is not guaranteed at all.

I'm sure I will be corrected if I have some facts wrong but I'm pretty sure the gist of my point is correct, the money isn't truly guaranteed at all. The added money is always dependent on other things properly falling into place even though he doesn't tell you that part. If money is truly guaranteed, that means that you have it set aside ahead of time, and it isn't in any way dependent on anything else needing to happen or not happen. It will be paid out come hell or high water. But most promoter's definition of guaranteed money is "the amount I hope to be able to pay out if all goes as I hope it will". There is nothing guaranteed about that.

Which brings up another point. In my opinion, for any event with a sizable added money amount being claimed as "guaranteed", a promoter should always escrow that added money in advance. If they are not willing to do that it is almost certainly because they either don't really have the money at all and are hoping to get it through gate sales etc (in which case it was never really guaranteed money at all), or they do have the money but don't intend to pay it all out if they don't do as well with the event as they hope to (in which case it was never really guaranteed money at all). If the money is truly guaranteed there is zero reason not to escrow it in advance. If you have it, and intend to pay it out, then you can escrow it.

Good points.
Seriously, shouldn't those so called governing bodies/authorities be regulating promoters and their promises? Shouldn't there guidelines with regards to escrow , guarantee of prizemoneys?
I may be wrong- non-payment and delays of prizemoney payments is probably highest in pool than other sports.

WILL WE EVER GET PAST NEGATIVE, FAULT FINDING , CRITICAL NAH SAYERS . If JAY COMES BACK AS TD JUST TAKE IT TO THE BANK IT WILL BE A GOOD SUCCESFUL WEEK . If you want to be negative with a field already very strong check the list just go watch a Disney movie and save your useless coments

Will we ever get past sticking our heads in the sand like idiots and overlooking those that would lie and steal and cheat the players out of promised money? Your attitude is the reason it continues to happen. Take it bending over and then keep coming back for more like it was perfectly acceptable. Yeah, that will change things...

Yeah, because Jay can make him pay everything he promised to, right? Give me a break. If he decided to pull the same scam with his "guaranteed" money again there isn't anything Jay can do about it.

As I said before, if you really have the guaranteed money, and really intend to pay it out, then escrow it. Then it is guaranteed. If you aren't willing to escrow you either aren't sure you will have it or you aren't sure you will want to pay it all out even if you did have it. Either way that is far from "guaranteed". Until it is escrowed the "guaranteed added" promise is worth the paper it is printed on if that, particularly from this promoter who has already proven he won't always honor his "guaranteed added" promises by failing to honor it in the past.

I think like many others that if Jay has put his name on this event knowing its past he must be very confident that the money is there. NOW, having said that he has been hired as the TD and that does not make him liable either but knowing Jay he just would not want to be a part of something that he thought could turn bad. Jay has enough money that he does not need this job especially if its going to hurt his reputation. I could be wrong here. Jay??

No Behrman No open.
Like they say you could always start your own tournament.
He's done a lot for pool. His struggles making this event happen every year should be commended.

Show me the Money!!

This reminds me of that Tom Cruise movie Jerry Maguire

Someone post a clip? LOL

:grin-square:

Ask Roberta, Barrys assistant , she is a stand up women, what ever she says you can take to the bank!

I believe Roberta has a very big part of this years US OPEN, She is a smooth women that will do a tremendous job at the Open!

NOW, having said that he has been hired as the TD and that does not make him liable either but knowing Jay he just would not want to be a part of something that he thought could turn bad.

There is no doubt in my mind that Jay feels the money is there and will be paid in full or he would not have accepted the job. The thing is, unless the money has been given to Jay and it is in within his full possession and control or there is some other similar arrangement I am not aware of, as you say Jay isn't liable and there really isn't anything he could do if Barry pulled his same stunt again. The last time Barry didn't pay out all the "guaranteed" added monies there was some tournament director who had put their faith in him at that time too (which could even have been Jay for that matter, I don't recall).

The one thing that still holds true though is that if you have the money, and intend to pay it, there is no reason not to escrow it. Now if you are going to be depending on gate sales and other things to raise the money then you obviously don't want to escrow, because it isn't actually guaranteed and you need to wait to see what will happen. Or if you may not want to pay out the full guaranteed money for any other reason, like you didn't make enough money on the event or whatever it might be, then you obviously don't want to escrow because it isn't actually guaranteed and you want to wait to see what will happen first. But if you have it and intend to pay it there is no reason not to escrow it.

Get rid of his daughter trying to sing

I don't have much money but I will contribute a meager hundred bucks to the cause if he will just keep that daughter of his from trying to sing.
She sings worse than I do....and that's terrible.

Yeah, jay is gonna just pay people out of his pocket, if the open fails to.

He did it in AZ, why not in VA too...isn't that why he was Chosen?.

ignorant much? history much?

Which one you recommend?

The Hobit, cause Barry would make a great Golem.

I'm in for 200 if Miley Cyrus does a Donkey Show. And Justin Beiber helps her.

Barry will pack the FKin house man.

Put a G String on the Donkey. It will get more dollar bills than Miley.

Theres your added money right there.
