Earl calling out Joe Rogan

So a B player is supposed to play Earl the same way Bartram plays the Pinoy's ?

I think people are either giving Joe a lot of credit or not giving Earl enough. Think Five U.S. Opens.

For it to be anywhere close to 50/50 that weight is gonna have to be heavy.

Justin, I believe you are spot on. I have seen strong filipino players, who gamble and are in action every day, getting 5 and 7 in 10-ball against Orcullo and Bustamante, and not liking it.

If you are not in action all the time, and if you cant expect to be able to run a few games keeping your opponents in the chair, you need a huge spot against a world class player.

The spot suggested by Jay seems reasonable. No disrespect to Joe Rogan, but when a B-player meets a champion like Earl, getting two balls is a joke.

The joke was if there is a backpedaling championship I'm backing Joe Rogan.

How about this one? If they put a cholerserol limit on this forum, some of you guys would be in big trouble.

Humor.

Ok.

It's clear now.

You are just trying to be funny.

Failing miserably but I see that is your desired goal.

I am all for the cholesterol limit by the way, as long as a douchetard restriction is passed in the same forum legislation package. Cause that would be cool.

LMAO!!!!!!!

"douchtard" (???) that is awesome.
That will be my word of the day tomorrow... I will be using it in a complete sentence ;o)

Yes this was a humor attempt fail. When you spell a word that badly it's just as bad as stuttering while delivering a punchline. The timing is lost and timing is everything.

However I'm sure the Oyster liked your joke.

Well, there's 20 pages to this thread

Joe please remember that Jay is getting older and not reaslly all there anymore. Sad but true. However depending on the day he may give u the world or mayt make u give Earl the 7. Who knows but if thats what u think do whatever man. Maybe we should play for a joint :) put that in the middle :) Well I am sure we are gonna have alot of fun when this eventually happens. But Joe what do you think is a fair spot out of curiosity?

So, I don't have time to read all of it. So I've read about 6 pages, and this is my take.

I have never seen Joe hit a ball, but I know what Earl is capable of. I have played a few Champions, and watched a lot of match-ups over the years. So I have a clue what it takes to get there. All bets should be a donation to charity, perhaps a childrens charity.

Winner breaks, 9-ball. Joe has to pocket any 4 balls during a game, {balls on break do not count toward this} or he can win on a combo on the 9. Race to 30. Both guys are allowed to talk between shots. Once a players leans down to shoot, opposing player has to be quiet. Shooter may still talk any time it's his turn at the table. Get a couple of UFC guys in Ref outfits {preferably big guys} and Jay Helfert as head ref to call hit's. Danny D. and Billy to work the booth. Have a couple of smaller matchups to warm up the crowd. Maybe a Scooter match, complete with woofing, Make that DVD and watch the sales skyrocket. I promise you, I'd buy it.

Handicapping

Handicapping this match up between Earl and Joe is sure bringing a lot of opinions and we haven't yet heard from the players.

I suggest that instead of one long set that the format be a series of short sets.

Example
Winner would be the first to win 9 sets of races to 3 or something along those lines.

After each set the players would be allowed (encouraged) to renegotiate the handicap with a set amount of time allowed for negotiating, say 2 minutes. After this time if no agreement on the new handicap is reached the decision would go to an arbitrator.

IMO the negotiations would add greatly to the entertainment value of the match, as well as making for a fair game.

I was hoping nobody would notice that. My computer had a virus and since I got it back from the shop I haven't put my spellcheck back on.

I don't get the Oyster thing. Is that a reference to your avatar?

Hey you never know with the right spot Joe could win. Its not like he cant play!

True, but it ain't Earl's first time at the rodeo. In a long race he could give Rogan the 7,8,9 and run over him.

I don't think Rogan wants any part of Earl for serious money anyway so it is a moot point, but fun to speculate about.

I think they should play at Pool Sharks in Vegas in May. They have a great pit table and fantastic set-up. Also they should charge admission at the door with all of it going to charity.

It would be great, and wise, to have a video feed of the match and have it projected around the room on screen because ill tell you this... Pool Sharks would frackin PACKED to the gills!!!!

This seems like a really great thing for pool but they would definetly have to keep it PG 13 for it to truly be a good thing.

It's not my place to say, but a suggestion never hurt.

I think the most important spot for Joe should be the breaks. It guarantees him table time, which is what people will want to see.

As for the rest of the spot....I have no idea whatsoever. Jay's the man for that job.

wow - 20 pages because joe rogan did what he does best - was funny. i don't get it. joe is a comedian and a fan of pool. he has obviously heard earl's voice enough to do the impression and he made a funny video. that's it. he didn't talk smack to earl, disrespecting his game or anything bad. and if earl doesn't want people to make of his outfits, equipment or statements maybe he should tone a few things down. i saw him last year at a tournament at mr. cues here in the ATL. and a few local guys i know were giving him a hard time from the rail and earl stands up from a break announces that, "this is the problem with the world of pool, i have more talent in this little finger (holds up pinky which by the way is covered by what appears to be a gardening glove with duct tape on it) than most people have in thier whole body". earl procedes to run the rack and then stands up and staring at the back wall (no living people in his line of sight) and announces, "my little finger (holding up same pinky)". i mean the guy is a champion for all times, but he is, well to put it mildly, excentric. he was wearing the gardening glove, duct tape, athletic tape, tennis racket handle wrap as a cue wrap. yeah - that's a target for comedians. i can do a few impressions - mike tyson - wouldn't box him even today, bernie mac - but i would have wanted to try and tell jokes on the same stage when he was alive, just because joe was being funny doesn't mean he wants to challenge earl. this seems to have gotten way out of hand.

I hope this match takes place, and I hope both players have fun. This could do a lot for the world of pool, especially if it becomes a 5 or 6 person run. Earl is cool to have, so would be Archer or Morris. There has got to be a bunch of Hollywood or sports stars that would love a chance to play against some of the greats for charity.

It would be good to let people see good pool being played without the mortuary like feel that you get on TV now unless Vivian Villareal is playing. I like watching her play, cuz when she misses, she acts like most guys in my league do.

We all love seeing good pool being played, but showing the rest of the country good pool from the lighter side of things would be great for the game.

Well if you don't know who the Australian Oyster is by now you have been ignoring about 4 threads that are on the first 2 pages at all times for the past couple weeks or so.

Here is the link that the Oyster made about guys with high cholesterol.

I dont think Earl would spot Joe and i think Joe will man up and play even if they do indeed play.

I know i couldnt win against Earl but i wouldnt take a spot from him. I would play him straight up so if i did actually win i can say i beat the PEARL EVEN UP!!! Not many can say that!!
