Earl/Shane Scoreboard

Is that so?

Well, the next time you play in one of my tournaments I'll shark the sh** out of you, and when you complain, I'll look right at you and say "Boo-Freakin-Hoo!

I would not go all in on that ,shark away!!
I grew up playing in sum pretty bad bars from the time I was 14 I love that environment ,of course I would need a few shots of jack:) after seeing me in action when I get a few in me u will think Ryan is a patron saint  and one thing I can assure u of I will only blame my lack of concentration if I do get as some say sharked,,

Shane is a special case, as are most handicapped people.

I have to disagree, Jay. Shane is NOT handicapped. Shane is handicapable.

It doesn't matter if you consider him hearing (no disrespect). What matters is that it is a real disability to be hearing impaired and he has had to overcome that. You don't think he was made fun of in school for that? That kind of stuff sticks with you and can affect you for a long time. Earl, regardless of how he meant it, should think before he opens his mouth. That's the equivalent of saying "I wish I was in a wheelchair so I didn't have to walk everywhere". With all the shit Earl talks about respecting the game, he should do the same.

I can understand guys cutting up on each other, but that wasn't the situation. You have to be close to be able to bang on somebody about something personal in my opinion.

I have a niece who is deaf. It is hard to explain, but when someone close to you has a disability like that, you become extremely protective and sensitive to any slight concerning the disability. I don't know, wounded cub syndrome or something. So believe me, if anything will set you off, it's someone making any kind of remotely insensitive comment about a disability someone close to you has.

Earl is one of my favorite players. I think he may be the greatest 9 ball player of all time.

Shane is also one of my favorite players.

After Earl broke and ran the first rack (FIRST...rack) I was excited. As soon as Shane got his first chance to break and Earl started with the insane "your ball's over the line" antics, and all of the other sharking, etc........that just kept escalating....well, that was that for me as far as being a fan of Earls.

Earl's "play" did look like the Earl of old and that is a force to be reckoned with...but he won't keep it up. I hope, and know that Shane is going to figure something out and crush him. Earl, as a player, lost my respect big time with those antics against a world class person like Shane. And the comments about Shane's disability were just nauseating. He actually started to say something about it earlier, but seemed to catch himself and change his words. Did anyone else catch that?

I'm rooting for you Shane. Take it down!

If Shane has to put up with Earl's mouth during this action match, then I say all is fair in love and war; in this case, an action match. This isn't mum pool, or is it?

When my horse is in the pit, I am rooting for him on the rail. If anybody insulted him, you can best believe I'm going to respond. That's how I roll.

This is what pool needs, a little emotion in the game. Will Earl's wisdom of the game be the determining factor for the almighty win, or will Shane's youth, good eyes, and talent allow him to cross the finish line before Earl? Time will tell.

It's an interesting proposition, playing on the 10-footer. Earl turns 50 in 2011. He's racing against the clock when it comes to him being able to compete at a level that he's comfortable with, while Shane has a whole future ahead of him and is just beginning his legacy.

And if ur man was in the pit it would be worth twice the price of PPV
Pool is becoming soooooo borrrring
where have all the cowboys gone

This is a very entertaining match on so many levels (Earl is an A$$, but is playing awesome). Thanks TAR!

I have a couple questions about it:

1) Are they allowed to jump w/their playing cue or no jumping allowed?

2) Could Shane use an extension or is it original equipment only?

3) Could they use a break cue if they wanted to?

Thanks,

Dave

Nobody bets on me

I like the comment Earl said that everybody was betting on Shane and no one was betting on him. Lol, for there to be a bet the other guy has to take Earl, so for all the people betting on Shane, just as many were betting on Earl.

Disabilities...

What Earl said was ill mannered, discourteous and rude. Some might call it malicious as well. I can see where John would have gotten quite upset. I would have too. Shane has overcome a major hurdle in his life to get where he is today, and too discount that with nasty remarks is pretty damn low in my book. Let Earl walk a day in Shane's shoes and see how he likes it. I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one. You can if you like.

As for Shane being allowed to play with his hearing aid in hie ear, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. And if you do, then I say that you have a problem. Shane is a special case, as are most handicapped people. And exceptions are made for them throughout society. Maybe you just haven't been paying attention. Kind of like Earl in that respect.

I do not want to have a disagreement with am man of your stature, Mr. Helfert. Earl is unsportsmanlike to do what he does and even his fans know that. But I was best friends with a deaf kid growing up. I actually did walk in his shoes because I could imitate my friend perfectly so I got to know what it is like to be deaf- everyone thought I was deaf as well. Got the attention of ALL the women. Shane's deafness, along with his incredible talent, has helped make virtually everyone a Shane Van Boening fan. It has probably also blessed him with the humility to keep him from turning into an arrogant A-hole like some players. Of course Earl is jealous of that.

Nicely said. Earl's comment was incredibly immature and out of line. Shane will win this set no doubt in my eyes. I think he had more to adjust to than Earl did. Day 2 & 3 will be the SVB show.

Hey Dave, yes on all three counts.

1) They can jump, but no jump cues

2) Shane has a cue extension sitting beside him (not his, I think it is part of the pool room equipment) but he has chosen to use the bridge so far.

3) There was nothing mentioned about cue specifics. Shane has a break cue with him (don't know about Earl but I assume he does to. He has a 4x8 soft case with him).

Like I said earlier if Shane doesn't figure this table out soon Earls got this one. Never really gave much stock to the home table effect but starting to believe after tonight

Hm court is one, but the size change has a similar effect when you go from a bar box to a 9 footer, it affects everything. Also, sounds like this match up has a lot of board play/safeties/rolling whitey & clipping a ball, which earl is good at.

Why should Shane be allowed to break past the line?

Earl had to continually ask him to move the ball back...something like 5 racks in a row.

It's not like Shane wasn't warned previously multiple times.

This match has an air of professional wrestling to it. I wonder if it's scripted. It's sure generating lots of interest and excitement with the audience getting very emotional, love-hate, nobody on the fence. The villain and hero are duking it out with the villain taking the early lead (of course)...but the good guy always wins in the end! Is Shane wearing a white hat?
:p

I wonder if it's the base of the ball or the full ball behind the line that's causing this? It could be as simple as that. Anyone know what they agreed on?

Whatever it was....Shane was over it.

He didn't offer an arguement one single time. He just pulled it back.

Ever since Justin pointed out the "home field advantage" of the chairs, I noticed that Shane never really looked comfortable. Earl is in a nice comfy, big captain's chair, while they gave Shane a stool w/a short back.

If it wasn't such a chicken sh*t move, it would be funny. Does this place think they are the Boston Garden?:confused::(

Hmmmm

It was me, I told Earl:

"We have never met before, my name is John Mars, I think you are a great player and I enjoy watching you play pool. If you act like you did today again tomorrow it isn't going to end well."

He jumped up and said I threatened him, and I did. He later came up to me and apologized for how he acted and said that he will try and be better tomorrow.

He can take my threat anyway he wants but he shouldn't take it lightly. I hope he doesn't choose to insult Shane again by saying he wishes he was deaf, but if he does I like his chances of his day not ending well.

It truly take a lot to upset me and only a handful of people have ever accomplished this feat.

I have been drinking tonight and this is all I have to say!!!

Maybe you should stop drinking and get rid of the beer muscles already.
This is Earls and Shane's game, and everyone esle and his brother has to protect poor Shane. ( I like SVB) but he's a big boy, and he can fight his own battles, and doesn't need bully's trying to pick fights with his opponent. This is a freaking pool game guys, not a freaking church social.....you know, with pool players ?? Hello.....

Has anyone yet tried to hassle the NFL players who are criminals but yet still allowed to play ?? I'm mean, if you are going to the mat for Shane, what about other sports? Have you threatened Michael Vick yet? Or the rest of the NFL and NBA thugs?? Earl is all bark, and no bite.

Yet, some of you guys still act like he nailed your mother or kicked your dog......

Give it a rest already. Let the boys play some pool without the drama from the fans. Nobody put a gun against anyones head to play Earl, and nobody seems to say no. SO, even most players appear not to be bothered enought not to play Earl. Not to hard to understand.

Fats makes up a story that somebody sh*t their pants and all is good. Personally, you can shark me all day, but telling folks I sh*t my pants is quite embarrassing ! I still think it's damn funny, as long as Fats is saying about somebody other than me !

Heck of match so far, so maybe enjoy the rest of this championship pool, buy the stream, buy a new cue, go to your local room today and support pool. Leave the drama to Real Housewives of Orange County.......

Shane's break is killing his momentum right now. He broke dry all except maybe one of his last 10+ breaks. The one time he made a ball the last ball rolling blocked the pocket and he had to make a 10ft combination. He is crushing the balls and squatting the cueball. If he figures out how to make a ball on the break this could get ugly for Earl.

Earl has been capitalizing on Shane's dry break and running out very well. He, on the other hand, is making a ball much of the time. He's had a few breaks where he has made 2-3.

I'm very excited to see how each player changes and what adjustments they make today. I hope Earl can keep the chatter down to a minimum though.

I know people have mentioned "This is what pool is missing. There needs to be some emotion." In my opinion, if this is what pool should be, I would rather not be involved. There is a difference in showing emotion and showing your ass. I am all for players being emotional and exciting. Alex Pagulayan is a very emotional player. He wears his heart on his sleeve, he interacts with the crowd and his opponent. What he doesn't do is dinegrate the crowd who paid to watch him and alienate himself from the world. Kieth used to be very exciting too, but he was way more like Alex than Earl.

I do feel bad for Earl because I believe he has a very real mental health issue. I just wish he could get out of his own way and let his play do the talking.
