This is what the Action Report posted related to the two events coming up.

ACTION at the Qlympics

Justin Collett
10/3/07

...........

.....The first match to go off will be the first of it's kind
Action All-Around featuring two of America's most
respected players. Reigning U.S. Open Champion John
Schmidt will take on Danny Harriman in a 3 Day,
$10,000 entry, All-Around Challenge Match. The two
Champions will match up on the second weekend of
the Qlympics event in the ActionReport.com Room.
The dates are Nov. 8-10. The format will be:
Thursday Nov.8: Straight Pool. Race to 400 points. For
$3300
Friday Nov.9: One Pocket. Race to 10. For $3300
Saturday Nov. 10: 10 Ball. Race to 30 for $3300.
There is one stipulation in the format. If the players
split the first two sets then the final 10 ball set will be
played for all the money. In other words if Player A wins
One Pocket and Player B wins Straight Pool they will
play a race to 30 10 Ball for $10K...................

.................www.playbca.com .

Sounds like some great challange matches. However, why dont they just play one set for the 10k. There really seems no real point for one person to win one set then one player wins the other, then they scrap all of that great playing just to play one set for the money.
Here is the thing, we all (TAR and the players) wanted the players to play all 3 games. Without coming up with a convoluted points system that would cause as many problems as it would solve, we had to do it some way. After talking to the players this is how they wanted to do it. It is not perfect but it is better than having one guy win the first 2 games and just not playing the third or splitting the first 2 and only playing for $3400 the last set. This way if a guy loses the first 2 he has to nut up for the 3rd set and try to save $6700. If someone has a SIMPLE and workable scheme to do it different we are all ears for the next one.

Justin...You guys are doing a fantastic thing for us poolplayers. HOW you do it is up to you, and whatever perameters you have to work around. Don't let anybody's *****in' get to ya! Keep up the good work. Sure wish I could be there to watch! There's gonna be some really great pool. I need a new laptop so I can watch the action on the road!

There is NO WAY, NO HOW, Earl is going to win. SVB is going to smash him. I know people like to hang on to the past, but Earl is no match for the young SVB. Maybe 15 years ago. Sorry to break the news to ya'll.

hmmm..im sure some one said..there is NO WAY NO HOW someone could win the open four times....but hey look what happned

Now dont misunderstand me SVB is a freaking monster..i watched him play and practice..his composure is unreal..his position play is perfect..and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAN SOME ONE TEACH ME OR TELL ME WHAT BOOK OR TAPE TO BYE TO PRACTICE, LEARN AND MASTER PATTERN PLAY...i am always picking the wrong damn side of the ball to get on or the wrong way to run out..i have made some great run outs but i have made them tough as crap for no reason..HELP anyone or anything..hell i try standing on my head if it helps :D

Justin, how much will the admission charge be to watch the challenge matches in person at the Clarion?

The game is rack your own. Earl wanted Mike to rack for him so that is how it will work. As usual each player can inspect the others rack. If there is an issue we will resolve it quickly and quietly.

It's important for Earl NOT to rack, playing someone half his age, saving his energy for play is key.

I am a big big fan of Earl Strickland. in fact I loved the pool more because of him. The guy have won so many tournoments, For me Earl is the master of pool in all times. And ofcourse Mike knows that ;) Hello mike :)

Sadly I can't attend the match and watch it live due to work, but Be sure that I'm with you Mike and with Earl, and Have a faith in Earl, he can still do it. In fact I think Earl can beat Shane with a Big lead.

Seriuosly tho, alot of good players has came into pool, some of them were really good and only won the us open once, maybe twice, But not to mention i know all of the forums knows what Earl has done, and how many he has won, that confirms that he has a big big talent, unlike others. They might have talent, but not in the same level of which Earl has got (At least for me)

Shane won US open once. can he do it 5 times? I think not. Earl did it. and some players have been lucky few times to win a one US Open, ofcourse with some talent. and I understand if Earl lost in this US Open unfurtonate, maybe luck wasn't with him I wasn't there.

However I'm with you Mike & Earl, I vote for Earl ofcourse.

$10 per night at the door. If any AZ'ers are making a special trip for the matches email me at justin@theactionreport.com and give me your name, number of tickets, dates you want to watch. I will start a reserved list.

We shouldn't have a problem fitting everyone in, but I would feel bad if someone made the trip and we ran out of room.

There is no admission charge to sweat any of the regular tournament events and we will have some other action related events going on in TheActionReport.com room. A little birdy told me Chris Bartrum may hang out and get into a little something or other.

Well, if that is somewhat of a sticking point, how about a best 3 out of 5 sets for the cash. One pocket, 10-ball, short rack banks, Straight pool and 9-ball. Have the referee pull from a "hat" the first 4 games (str8, 9, 10, 1-hole or banks.. etc...) and if both players are tied at 2 games apiece then whatever game they haven't played will be the deciding game to which a champion will be crowned.

I really like these Challenge matches. It is great for the game. Good luck with them. I hope this idea has helped with any future matches... Thank you for reading...

Give Earl a real cue, and he'll perform like he should, 1 pocket champ style.

Earl will put up a better results than Corey did.

Want to bet that???

Sounds good in theory but most people do not want to bet $10K at anything where drawing something out of a hat is involved. They want to know exactly what they are playing.

Is there anyone out there that thinks that Earl can win the match with Shane Nov. 14th in Louisville. I will be at the table with Earl the entire match. I am racking his balls. I am looking for partners.
If you think Earl can win call me at 864-458-7662.
Mike
Mike,

I've been a fan of Earl's for many years even though I don't agree with some of his antics during matches. I have the DVD's of Earl playing Efren in Hong Kong in the race to 120 for $100,000 and it's some of the best 9 ball i've ever seen, but at this stage of Earl's career believe me he has his hands full if he's going to tackle Shane Van Boening. As much as I like Earl's game I don't think he can hold it together long enough to beat Shane.

Shane played some of the best 9 ball you'll ever see at the US Open and that's obvious since he went undefeated through the whole tournament.

If I bet on the match between Earl and Shane my money is on Shane and I wish them both the best of luck....

haha Earl cant hold it together for 1 set without quitting.. how the hell is he going to last 3 days? Drugs?

Earl is in very good shape...the man played 8 hours in ankle weights just a month or so ago...I am sure he will be ready for the challenge..

Now that is funny!!!

wow...

i just think that you all have been underestamating the match and the desire earl might have to play this match! mike is earls friend and earl knows how much the 10k means to mike! NONE of us thought he would win the 1 pocket either, but he did! NEVER understimate heart and desire!mike and earls friendship may be just what earl needs for a wake up call! and if he gets that wake up call, shane might be in for a long weekend! i know for a fact that earl is making balls on the break in ten ball and running out! so take it for what its worth, shane is glad he gets to prove himself against a legend! and no matter who says there is interest or isnt, there is only 1 legend in this match! and that young kid is going to do his best to roll thru the legend of earl! and if he does then we will see whos next on the list! i think you will all be suprised! thanks for your time!
hope to see you all at the qlympics

Everybody likes to ride on the coattails of a winner, which is why the mood of this Action Challenge is one-sided after the recent U.S. Open.

Earl is still my horse if he never wins another race, but I cannot and will not rule him out of this match-up. :)

They already know what they are playing. They just don't know which order they will be playing them in. You could just create the format prior to the matches if that makes it easier for you as well. However, I think that the format that I have laid out is the fairest for both players for the 10k.
