While watching television last night I saw a promo that, I believe today, there will be the airing on one of the ESPN channels, "The World Championship Of Cornholing".

I'm gonna be honest, I'm more of a city guy than a country gent so when I heard there was a cornholing competition going to take place, I quickly double checked to make sure what channel I was on.:shocked2::grin-square:

I swear, I have never in my life heard of such a sport but they were showing what appeared to be a very large painted plywood box with a small hole cut into the top and then, what, do they throw ears of corn into this hole?:confused:

I checked but saw no listings for pool on espn, just cornholing.

Has pool taken a back seat to cornholing?

It's hard to type this thread with a straight face.

Have any of you tried cornholing? :grin-square:

maybe it's fun. :happydance:

This is just killing me...

Similar to horseshoes, but safer for kids. And kind of like pinball, it has a cult following of sorts.

Its amazing, ESPN has been cornhole-ing pool fans for years by not showing much pool, now they are cornhole-ing with actual corn hole...... thats just f'n great.

Cornhole is super common here, we have boards at work that we get out occasionally and my brother has a set too. Fun yard game to play while cooking out and drinking a few beers!

Can't imagine watching it on tv though...

Are you kidding, that you never heard of cornholing. Some times when watching cornholing I get so excited that I wet myself.

I tried it when I was younger, butt it didn't come up to my expectations.
My girlfriend at the time however, being the trooper that she was, gave it the old college try in one of our city parks, and found it quite stimulating. Afterward, she complained of some soreness, butt was otherwise pleased with the outcome.
She remarked. "I never knew you could have that much fun with a vegetable."
The park officials were less enthusiastic, saying. "We don't believe, at this time, the board will approve the development of an official site for this activity, butt we will certainly take the matter under advisement."

I had never heard of it till I moved to the south. Now we have a set under our covered porch. We usually play when friends come over while drinking beer and barbecuing.

They have shown that before. You think they show more cornholing then pool on ESPN? They actually show a lot of pool considering it is a sport with no tour, known champions, small money and few tournaments that are even committed to tape for showing.

Pool complains about being ignored while itself remaining invisible. What does pool do to get on TV? How much promotion does pool do? The US Open or Derby will come and go and beyond us, who even knows it happened?

Pool is like a guy sitting on his a$$ in a bar complaining about his life. If you want a better life, get off your a$$ and go do something about it.

By the way

Hope that doesn't date me.

You can't hold a beer and play pool at the same time-generally you need two hands. So it's already at a disadvantage against Cornhole right out of the gate when it comes to the college drinking game social scene.

You are definitely a city guy if you never heard of this game. How about hillbilly golf, have you heard of that?

Yep...was cornholing on the 4th of July at my sister-in-laws BBQ...didn't even know that was what it was called...lot of fireworks going off afterward! :D

I have to admit it was my first time...I was a little aprehensive at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty fun. The old man who was on the other side said I was pretty decent for a first timer!

Of course we were using bean bags and not ears of corn...those were for the BBQ! :)

p.s. I thought it was called "bean bag toss" while playing...it wasn't until I Googled it that I found out the real name...made my eyebrows raise too! :p

Pool hasn't taken a back seat to cornholing...
...It has taken a back seat to popularity.
IF 1,000,000 viewers were demanding Pool, I'd be watching Pool right now. Rather than typing this after watching THE SERENA SLAM!

Funny stuff!

I spend the better part of my weekends for 6 months camping at the lake or in the mountains and I play cornhole all the time. I can't imagine watching it on tv, but to be fair, I also wont watch pro's play 9ball race to 5 alternate breaks either tho. I imagine it was sold to ESPN as number of cornhole games sold or total revenue from cornhole.

I had no idea at the time while it was happening but now that I know what cornholing actually is instead of what I thought it may have been it appears that I partake in this activity occasionally at summer BBQs.
