F-250 smashed through Diamond Billiards today, tough loss...

Why waste anything more than the money it costs to end this guy's life? He deserves nothing short of death. What defense could be offerred? How can this victim's family be compensated? Between the trial and incarceration it will cost a million bucks. Just use him for target practice.

.402?!?!?!?! How did he even make it out the door, let alone start a vehicle? That is high enough to kill himself!

Yeah, .40 BAC is considered a lethal dose for an average person. With a rule of thumb of .02 per drink per hour for a large-ish man, that would be 20 beers or shots in an hour, or more depending on how much time has passed.

It doesn't matter what they charge him with, he will be in a cell until he dies. At his age, even 10 years in prison will kill a man.

Most likely true and it is unlikely he has enough money but there are slick lawyers who can get people out of jams Houdini would be proud of.

Let's make sure to let all the people we know about this fund drive.......we can't do a thing about that asshole who deserves a lot worse than he'll ultimately get
which can never be enough. However, we can concentrate more on the fund-raising for Ron.....imagine if everyone you knew only gave a $1.00 or $5.00......let's
hit that goal fast....and go well past it too.

The police couldn't even tell he was drunk. It sounds like he is a functioning alcoholic. Thanks again for all the support!!

Very sad . Dirt bag deserves death penalty being 75. My condolences to gravel family. Place like this love be near by to consider retire in florida some day.

Wow thats crazy talk.

I have never heard of that high an alcohol content. Most people would be dead.

Which begs the question: Why would he be served alcohol if he was that drunk? They should have cut him off.

I have never enjoyed pool rooms that served alcohol, and this is one reason why. Some people can't handle their liquor and want to start fights. Throw in gambling and pool, and you have the makings of bad scene.

I have prayed for Ron's family and loved ones. It is unfair his life was taken from him in this manner. The person responsible is obviously an alcoholic. I would venture to guess that he has no memory of what happened.

Such a senseless loss of human life. My deepest condolences to the victims of this horrible tragedy, the family of the man that died, and hope that those injured will recover quickly. It really makes you think about how life can end at any moment, for reasons nobody could have foreseen. I hope that the murderer will get his due punishment and that the family will be able to get some kind of closure.

The blood alcohol content of the driver would actually be lethal to a lot of people. You'd have to have an extremely high tolerance to be able to walk around and drive with that kind of BAC, most people would probably not be able to much more than crawl at that level of inebriation, and as mentioned many would simply die either directly from the poisoning or inderectly through asphyxiation, exposure (in cold climates) etc...

JAM;

Just a few posts up, I think this is either the owner or manager of the pool hall involved who said:

"The police couldn't even tell he was drunk. It sounds like he is a functioning alcoholic."

Police: Billiards hall crasher was drunk at 5 times legal limit

By Katie Jones. CREATED Jul 22, 2015
CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A police report on the crash that killed a Cape Coral man when a truck barreled into a bar is reavealing a stunning detail about the man behind the wheel.

According to Cape Coral Police, William Gulliver's blood alcohol concentration was .402, quintuple the legal driving limit of .08, when he was tested that night at Lee Memorial Hospital.

Monday afternoon, Gulliver had been drinking at Diamond Billiards on Pine Island Road when he reportedly was kicked out after two beers for acting inappropriately and groping at women. He returned to his truck in the parking lot and minutes later crashed through the front of the building.

His truck powered approximately 30 feet into the business and pinned three people to the bar. One of those people, 60-year-old Ron Gravel, an employee at the bar, later died from his injuries.

75-year-old Gulliver has not been formally charged yet as the investigation is still under way.

Medical Toxicologist Dr. Timothy Dougherty says he sees patients with well over the legal limit blood alcohol levels far too often. "Unfortunately for me, to see levels above 400 that other people would think how could that person be functioning? And they're talking to you," Dr. Dougherty said.

Gulliver's BAC of .402. seems outrageous, but Dr. Dougherty said people react differently based on their tolerance. He said no matter how much you've had to drink, getting behind the wheel could end in a deadly disaster. "Your reaction time gets poor, your vision gets narrower so you don't see things like you're supposed to, you weave, you go faster," Dr. Dougherty said.

Bobby Slabe, general manager of Stevie Tomato's Sports Page in Cape Coral said his bartenders and servers are sent to school for safety. "We have a Responsible Vendors class that we need them to attend to make sure they're able to spot the signs for someone who's been over served," Slabe said.

Slabe said they have the right to refuse service, but can't physically forbid someone from leaving or take their keys. He said if someone gets hurt or injures others, the business could be held responsible. "It can be that way. It's not typically that way, but it all depends on how the prosecutors turn their case. There's a very good chance we are liable for anybody that steps through the doors, so it's our responsibility to make sure that they are able to wake up the next day," Slabe said.

According to SelfCounseling.com, at a BAC of .400, most people lose consciousness, and some die.

Just an update on this story, today marks exactly one month and there has yet to be an arrest of the driver yet... Again, he had a BAC of .402 (.08 is the legal limit here) and he was over 5 times the legal limit.

I understand the state has to get this case right to prosecute this man and not have a mistrial but just imagine if this SOB hits and kills someone else while driving drunk... I think the state would be in very bad shape for allowing this to go on for so long... This should not take this long for Ron and his family to have some peace by knowing this dirtbag is off the streets and that he will not be endangering more people for the rest of his elderly life...

Diamond Billiards is planning a grand reopening after the $100K in remodel/repairs are complete which we are thinking 2-3 more weeks. I am hoping to run a tournament that we are talking about now as well.

You mean to tell me, this guy was not arrested on the spot after the crash? There has to be something more to this.

I agree, who the hell lets someone walk after killing someone while drunk? Either that state has some really effed up legal system or this guy knows someone or has money and a damn good lawyer. Hope the guy rots for the rest of his short life.

Why has William Gulliver NOT been arrested yet? This Monday will be SEVEN WEEKS since he drove his F-250 all the way through Diamond Billiards killing Ron Gravel and critically injuring another (and it is said he did it "in revenge for getting kicked out").

HE HAD A BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL (BAC) OF .402 WHICH IS MORE THAN 5 TIMES THE LEGAL LIMIT HERE IN FLORIDA (.08).... CCPD said that they could have arrested him there on the spot but it would have been IRRESPONSIBLE (see video). IRRESPONSIBLE??? This guy was seen within a week or so after the accident buying a case of beer in a rental car...

IRRESPONSIBLE is letting this man continue to do what he does.... He is not a guy that had a rough night and got way too drunk and had an accident. This is a 75 year old functioning COMPLETE alcoholic. THIS IS WHAT HE DOES EVERY SINGLE DAY OF HIS LIFE, GET OBLITERATED AND THEN WAKE UP AND DO IT AGAIN, IT IS WHAT ALCOHOLICS DO...

If this man hits and kills someone while the CCPD "gets their case together" TAKING AN ABSURD SEVEN DAMN WEEKS, LETS TALK IRRESPONSIBLE THEN... I have all the respect in the world for Law Enforcement Officers and I understand that a case needs to be built properly but SEVEN weeks is WAY TOO long for a man that killed someone. He is as dangerous behind the wheel of a vehicle as a gang banger with a gun IMHO. I understand the suspect has the right to a speedy trial BUT THE PUBLIC would hope for the justice system to do there part and due dilligence and keep the streets safe and do something for Ron's family and friends...

ZERO has been done for Ron's family and friends in regards to justice... The ONLY reason I post this is to vent as well as HOPE this gets to someone that CAN get this man behind bars.

It's ridiculous that he isn't locked up. Here in Michigan, you go straight to jail just for being drunk and behind the wheel of a car. You don't even have to be driving it.

Maybe you can contact the local media and let them know about it. Here, we have a journalist investigative team that checks on outrageous things and brings media attention to it so something gets done. Maybe that's what needs to happen there.

seriously? 100k in repair costs?
and the place will be up and running in less than a month?
pool hall business must be better than we all know/think

Businesses have this thing called insurance. This thread is about a man losing his life because of a drunk driver and you come on here and comment about pool hall business? Am I missing something?
