Be very careful guys when posting money, especially if your on the road, make sure you look really close at the other persons money, best thing count theirs and let them count yours,a friend of mine just came off the road,he was down south, play and beat someone,he got his money and left,my friend pulls into a gas station, gives the man in side two 20 dollars bills for gas,as he is pumping here comes the cops,so my friend explained where he came across the fake money, but know one thing leads to another,he has 5 thousands on him,now he has to answer all kinds of questions,so every thing checks out and they let him on his way.i sure this isnt the first time somebody pasted fake money in a pool game.but that little incident could of ended not so good for many other pool players,no telling what some pool players are carrying in the car!so just a heads up be careful with someones elses money!good day.

About two months ago my mom got $200 from the bank and they were all fake. They looked brand new and luckily she caught it quick and took them right back. The second to last time I was in Vegas I got a fake $10 form a waitress in a casino. It's an old one and a hell of a job, I still have it. People would be shocked at how often counterfeit money is passed. It would almost pay to carry a marker with you, but I hear now those are not 100% accurate now-a-day's with all the new technique's.

What a joke "in god we trust". Money is no longer backed by gold! Money is to be considered "legal tender for all debts and obligations". So, you must accept it! Money is constantly being debased via quantative easing. Every bad thing you can think of that can happen to the usa currency is happening or happened already. Its the only logical explaination for the historic rise in the price of Gold!

As citizens that rely on the currency it is aweful upsetting and we are left with no way around it. I hate to derail your thread just a little upset!

Plus, to top it off counterfiets are running rampent! They might as well get the shackles and chains out because were already working for peanuts! Funny part the peanuts might be worth more than the usa dollar.

Enough venting!

2nd oldest hustle in the world . . . .

you know , the first woman to practice "the Worlds Oldest Profession" probably got paid at least once with counterfeit !;)
And it's not just paper money - they used to make fake coins in the old days ! that's where you get the cliche of the old-timer biting his coin !

Kid D ~ little off topic , there , buddy ! Besides , even when we were on the Gold standard , a $20 gold piece could be worth more or less ~ the banks could still control the currencies' value , "first by inflation , then by deflation" . . . .

Don't take any wooden nickles !!

This problem is also occurring up here in the Great Northwest, right now there are a lot of Counterfeit 10$ and 20$ floating around. I have some one try to pass to bills in the last month, and let me tell you the bills look real good. Worst of all though they also feel real good, in fact the only way you can tell they are bad is by holding them up to a light and looking for the Bar Strip. These bills will even pass the Pen test with flying color's because they are being made with US Mint paper.

Apparently what they are doing is taking 1$ bills and bleaching them to remove all of the previous design and then they are reprinting on the bleached paper. So the only way to identify these bills is to hold them up to a light, and check to see if they bar strip, if the strip is there you are good to go if not the bill is a fake, ones are the only bills that do not have a Bar Strip with the denomination on it.

we're screwed !

So when they figure out they can make $50s fom $5s . . . .
and my old eyes can't read the strip . . . .:frown:

So look, here's the straight skinny. The best counterfeiters today come from Russia. Their specialty is one hundred dollar bills and here's how they do it. They take five dollar bills and bleach all the color off both sides. Then they copy the one hundred bill (front and back) on the 'old' five dollar bill. This way the paper is right, with all the little lines and squigglys of a real bill. But if you hold it up to the light, the image you see is Lincoln and not Franklin. They make a $95 profit on every one they pass. I got one in my last poolroom, and it looks perfect. The digital copiers they have today do a real nice job. ALWAYS hold hundred dollar bills up to the light and look for Franklin's image. Those pens that you see them using in so many stores won't work on these type of counterfeits, since the paper is real money.

Right now the biggest problem is $10 and $20, it seems that to many people are watching the $100 so I suppose they thought can slide under the radar with the smaller bills.

At this point in time the biggest counterfitting ring are operating out of the middle east, but on these smaller bills I think it may be more local, anyways, watch your $10 and $20.

Take care

I got some 20's in hawaii dead perfect but short 1 digit in serial number.later I found out the feds beloved iyt was a time deal someone was try to pass 25,000 worth over a month at all small stores. Feds belive they had picked up 20,000 of it but where not sure how much was really out there they assumed 25,000 but never talked.about it again.

Do they replace fake money, if you turn it in??? Here in Germany, if you do NOT turn it in you comit a crime, even if yo udo not pass it on and if you turn it in, you won't get any refunds, even if the money just came out of the ATM (except the bank is doing it on their own expense, which happens seldom... however the € seems to be uninteresting for fake money makers luckily.. you get fakes very seldom (never have seen one)
Still they check every 50€note in the stores and so on

As others have pointed out, bleaching one dollar bills and reprinting $100 is an old trick that still works because we use one size for all our notes. All the other countries have wised up, and use different sizes for different denominations. Most strip clubs have tons of UV lighting, so fake dollars copied with the xerox machine will show up whiter than the real bills.

FWIW, Iran and North Korea are the biggest sources of counterfeit US dollars bills. Years ago, the CIA in its infinite wisdom gifted the Shah of Iran two surplus intaglio printing presses from the department of the treasury. The current Iranian regime are printing counterfeits as fast as they can, to destablize the economy of the great satan (U.S).

North Korea for use in its own currency, orders the almost near exact shade light shifting ink that we use for our currency, from the same swiss firm. North Korea needs hard currency to keep up with the excess demands of Kim Jong Il. Its reported that he is Hennessey's largest customer for the last ten years, averaging $650K purchases of their $600 bottles.

it doesn't really mater if your dem or repub the answer is to buy silver and gold!! its the only way to guard against inflation as history points out. so take that FWIW im young under 25 and realize this why don't older folks past 30 with good jobs realize this? on the side i know nothing on counterfeit money so thanks for the heads up.

NO, "they" do not replace counterfeit money! If you take it to the bank and they find it, it will be confiscated from you. If you question a bill and a government employee (Fed) inspects it and determines that it is counterfeit, you will lose that bill, with no replacement. And that's the name of that tune.

Check your $50 bills too. The was some one out on the Kitsap Peninsula that was bleaching $5 and reprinting them as $50. Only way to tell the difference is holding up to the light and checking the presidential watermark. Since Grant is on the $50...Grant should be the presidential watermark...not Lincoln.

If the bank issues you the counterfeit bills the bank will exchange them for real US currency....but you had better catch it right away or you are SOL.

Really? What do you do with your gold and silver?

Try going to the grocery store to buy $100 worth of groceries with a piece of gold and see how far you get.

There was a video I saw about a guy in California who tried to get people on the street to buy a 1oz Canadian gold coin, worth about $1200. He couldn't even get $20 for it.

As for gold being a hedge against inflation, it's not.

Let's say that you do buy 1oz in gold right now for $1000. In five years inflation goes up 50% and now the same gold costs $1500 to buy. Sell it for $1500 and you can only buy the same amount of goods that you could for $1000 fives years previously. The only way gold beats inflation is IF gold prices rise more than inflation which isn't always the case.

I do think it would be interesting, if it's even legal anymore, if merchants started accepting gold as payment. Seems like it could be built into every point of sale system what the current-to-the-second price of gold is and thus they could just weigh it at the checkout counter and charge you accordingly.

As to counterfeit bills that's a huge problem in China as well. We once were given some by the bank's ATM and we went into the bank to complain and they ran the bills through their detector and said yes, counterfeit, then gave them back to us and wouldn't replace them.

I have often wondered if people gamble with a lot of fake currency.

I think someone should go to Derby City with a bill detector. That could change the atmosphere a little bit.

Most of you probably don't know that the guy who taught Bill Schick how to engrave was visited by the FBI just about every month so they could just check to make sure he wasn't doing plates for currency. He had never done such a thing and had no record, they were just checking because he was one of the few people good enough to be able to do the plates perfectly.

5 years ago, people were just as enthusiastic about real estate.

In reality, no commodity is immune to the forces of supply and demand. In 10 or 15 years, everybody will be ready to cash in their gold to pay for retirement because “smart” people told them it was safe. This will cause a flood in the supply and demand will not increase because gold essentially has no cost effective use besides a store of value. This means the price of gold will drop and given the tendency of people to panic and act like lemmings in face of falling prices, it will crash suddenly and without warning.

The only “safe” bet is to have your assets spread out so that if one market fails, you only take a small loss. Essentially, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

In China, they make the best counterfeit EVERYTHING! How about those "silver dollars?"
By the way, did everyone know that there is more U.S. currency in circulation off shore (outside the U.S.) than in this country? True story.
