Ferrule replacement question

I am having a ferrule replaced and had the guy stop at this point. I don't think the shaft should be reduced to replace a ferrule. What do experts think about this.

Jesus Christ, this does not look like a ferrule replacement; looks more like criminal mischief. Hope that is a joke pic.

Yep, he doesnt know wtf he is doing. Take it to someone who knows what they are doing and get it fixed. You will still be dealing with a smaller diameter, but it might be able to be salvaged.

80 grit?

Ouch.

A proper ferrule replacement leaves you shaft just as blue/green as before.
Do not use this guy for any type of work ever again.

You say that is a new ferrule, why does it have chalk on it?

wouldn't be a problem if the ferrule was black, or maybe i read the other thread wrong?

as dave said, don't use this guy again, and make sure nobody else does..

You have to cut it down.... else how are you going to get the slip on tip/ferrule to fit:rolleyes:

It looks like a mini-wrap channel. You could have a leather or linen wrap installed between the undercut and ferrule. Would be a unique feature.

I figured this was not right but I wanted other opinions before confronting the person. I have never seen a ferrule job done like this one.

Usually the person will warm up the ferrule to break down the glue and then twist it off. He used a lath and cut the ferrule down to the wood tenant, or whatever you call that part of wood that is under the ferrule. Then he cut a ferrule from a rod and put it on the shaft. It was looking good at that point, the ferrule was a larger diameter than the shaft.

When I went back to check on it minutes later, this is what I saw.

It is not like a bad haircut, your hair will grow out and you go to somebody else.

The shaft is for a custom made cue from a famous cue maker who is dead. A shaft from the same cue maker if you can find one will not have the same custom ring work.

Sorry to hear that. I hope it goes well. The deco ring could be salvaged off that shaft and installed onto a new shaft no problem. I'd suggest not allowing that fellow to do any more work on your cues. His work looks cob rough.

I still hope you are trolling us, because I can't fathom how anyone who is supposed to be a cue repair person could do something so idiotic. That is now the worse I have seen on here.

If true about the now dead famous cue maker, I feel for sorry for you.
