Go EARL

The U.S. Open 2000 that Earl has won was a 256-player field FYI. I heard so from the director of U.S. Open himself

I believe there was 286 entries in that one.
Barry had so many on standby that he opened it.
I think Earl beat Okamura in the finals...who became known as Strokamura.

I hope the Pearl plays as well this tournament.
NOBODY has to like it .

C'MON EARL!!!!!!

He just won the US open, didn't he? I think it suffices to say that he's good enough

Not that good? well how did he win the U.S. OPEN a few weeks ago? he's been playing real good pool recently. Anyway I also will be rooting for Earl to win the whole tournament. Go Earl!

i think you hit the wrong button some where tropper, darren is that good, hey no big deal troop we all make mistakes.earl been beating every one else so far pretty easy,i hope ur right!

Any of you guys notice the smiley face at the end of his post? lol You couldn't tell he was joking? Really? lol

You are right, as was Asbani, and I stand corrected. :o

Thanks to Pat Fleming and Accu-Stats, there's a record. This was the 25th anniversary of the U.S. Open, and it was, indeed, 286 player at the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship in the year 2000.

1999 was another full field of 256 players, $30,000 won by Archer.

1998 had Buddy Hall claiming victory and $25,000 in a 198-player field.

The 1997 U.S. Open was considered at that time the most successful ever, with a 180-player field.

Reid Pierce won in 1996 the $20,000 first-place prize with a 100-player field.

The tournaments before 1996, the data is hard to find, but do check out this Accu-Stats catalog. What a great find. It is loaded with pool stats and a good read in itself: Accu-Stats Catalog.

Check out the picture of a young, slim and trim, military Buddy Hall below from this Accu-Stats catalog. Wow!

One thing for sure, the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship keeps going up, up, up each year with talent from around the globe, bigger money payouts, and great pool action, to boot. :)

:)

Prior to 1997 for some years, the US open was limited only to the: Pro circuit players + few that came through the qualifiers+ few good players that were not in the pro circuit but known to the owner of the US open. total of 100 players. From 1997 US open was open to any one who paid the entry fees.Proplayer`s wins in US opene were not counted for the Pro plyers rankings.Around 1995 PBT ( Probilliard Tour) was in a transition for change of it`s name to Camel pro Tour..Hope that helps.

Darren used his 2 jump cue shots then had to use a full cue after Earl's safety and Darren couldn't make what would have been an easy jump with the full cue. Failed to get over the ten, cue ball off the table and Earl makes a nice run out. Go Earl!

Great match

Daz played like the champion he is.
It took a champion to beat him.
Earl's second last break was a flash-back from the 90's.....
...'bout 30 mph and whitey doesn't hit a rail.

Maybe the Pearl has a world title left in him

Does this tournament qualify for BCA organizational ranking points for upcoming high-profile events such as the Mosconi Cup?

Earl still can play ,wow what a match against DA. Sometimes it`s look

like the Race to 17 against FB 2002 in Cardiff.

Earl = Nerves of Steel !!! Congratulations From Germany !!!

I`m very Happy...

What a match for 17 games I forgot how much pain I am in (ankle surgury).
That match was fantastic DAZ is a class act and I am a big fan after seeing his game. I cant believe the drama in that match. Cuebuddy is a wreck:grin:.

That rack, when it was 8-6, was amazing. How Earl turned that around was crazy. The man sure put some moves on that CB to complete the miracle comeback. GO EARL!

....Keep Going Earl !!!

How does Earl match up with Shawn Putnam and do they "like" each other or have any history of matches?

Dunno if there's any blood between them, good or bad. Johnny and Shawn are pretty tight, and Johnny and Earl aren't kissing no mo, so I would speculate there's not much of a bond between 'em, but I'm really clueless. i thought the banter bewteen Earl and Daz was great.

At the Open's after party at QMaster I spoke with Daz a good bit and he was adamant about many English chaps loving Earl. Them English have a diff sense of humor than us yanks. That mutual respect may have helped Earl stay cool when the chips were down and he coulda folded.

Word is that Shawn's play this week has been flawless and above everyone's. Could be and should be a good match, but I don't know how it could top the Earl/Daz match. That was one of the best I've seen in a long long time.
