Just for one day, I would like to come to the IPT section and read one thread with interesting things about the IPT. Y'all have the right to say whatever you want and I respect that and I'm not up in your face if I disagree with you. But I would like one thread here in this section that isn't full of doom and gloom.
anyway :(

I think that is a great idea. Why don't you start one with your happy things about the IPT, then everyone can chime in with theirs.

I enjoy SIGEL's schtick....if he got on roids for a few yrs he's got a future bodyslamming and badmouthing chicks on the WWF...

IPT website coverage of tournaments while they are in progress has raised the bar for internet coverage of a pool event. Never has a pool organization done such a fine job of offering such prompt and comprehensive information about match results. Player stats, such as break and run percentage, are a nice touch, too.

While 8-ball may not be the correct game to play all the time, I love the format of the IPT events. It made winning it (or even making it deep into the tournament) a testament of the skills, stamina and mental strength of the players.

I'll provide some positive input.

The camera work from the online matches of the World Open is fantastic! It is at least 10x better than the camera work from the Sigel vs. Reyes and Sigel vs. LJJ matches. The camera angles are much better, the instant replays are immediate, the floating camera provides excellent views (though in one or two matches Efren actually hits his head on the floating camera :p ). I think they really did a good job.

Not to mention they got rid of KT and Sigel from the booth. Though, they might bring them back when it eventually gets televised on TV :(.

I give the IPT a huge thumbs up for the online streaming and archived videos. Definitely worth the membership. It's a shame to think that maybe it'll be the last time we'll ever get this opportunity.

In a double elimination format such as the US Open a player can go undefeated and play a maximum 9 or 10 matches with a 256 man field. The chances of you seeing a match that you always thought would be the greatest may never come about. With the IPT format (200 players) you will play twice the number of matches if you stay in, and your chances of seeing that classic match are doubled, plus the diversity of players world wide makes it special.

The production values have been top notch and nothing compares to it. The statistical data and updates have been first class, so has the coverage of all of the events. The venues have also been first class. I think if they would develope\ promote this product and expand the market base gradually, that it would be a great thing. I do not believe that this current situation is the end of the line for the IPT. I just think its a case of paying out too much too soon. I think the idea was to motivate people into a frenzy about the big payouts and they gambled on the fact that this strategy would lead to profitability. Kevin said at the last player's meeting, "At some point I DO INTEND to make a profit with this." This means that so far he hasn't, and for the sake of pool, I hope he does too.

The correct move in my enthusiastically negative opinion (I put that in there because I know you read my posts, Kevin - lol) would be to start a 9 ball division and ladies division. With that, they could expand their marketability throughout Asia and the positive global impact within the sport would be phenomenal. Trim some of the payouts down and invest some of that money into marketing, promotion, and more events - with smaller payouts. Even if the IPT cut the prize fund in half at this point, they would still be offering the players more money than they have ever seen before. With the smaller events, they would have more opportunities to showcase the players (12-18 events instead of 6 or 7). At the current rate, consistent momentum will never be achieved because of the length of time in between events. The qualifiers (IMO) are a waste of time at this point. I believe the $2000 entry is far too high of a price for many players. I hope the IPT is working hard to ensure that the current pay issues are taken care of. I wish the players the best of luck with that situation.

:D

Dude, you just got a good laugh out of me. The image of ripped Mike Sigel (but with his head the same) and that voice of his talking nonstop would be incredible! lol

The idea of the IPT has been the best attempt so far and someone with money can certainly pick up the ball and run with it, I really would rather not see HO take control, I would much rather see someone else.

To be honest, I could see Comcast interested in this, it's not going to happen but if you approach them with the right deal they might bite. They certainly have wasted money on G4 a video game channel that sucked up 10's of millions and went nowhere, now with Versus pool could be a good part.

Comcast's Versus could take the ball and run with it, they have the money and the need for content on their channel, with their connections they could reap rewards down the road because pool is truly under achieving.

ESPN took over B.A.S.S and has made it major part of their Saturday lineup, they paid more then they should have but it worked out and with there pull and connections they got many more advertisers to put up money. I know this is not going to happen but if I was involved with Versus and Comcast I would seriously look at it, they could spin off a few series out of this, including a hustler series showcasing road players.

They want to steal the thunder from ESPN, I think they could blow ESPN's pool programming out of the water, especially if they throw in 9 ball and a womens tour. If KT is done and wants to bail he should attempt to get something from Comcast, If you look at the Versus website it's nothing at all, even the IPT's site is better. Versus could and should make a website more like ESPN's, I'm sure it's in the works.

All this is pie in the sky dreaming so don't bash it, it's just a what I think to be a good idea for Versus, Pool has tremendous potential and someone someday will cahs in on marketing products to all of us, now getting KT to dump the IPT might be the hardest part, since we all know the IPT has little value unless it's out of debt, regardless of what some say it does have some value, some legwork has been done, but to take over 7+ million in debt?

Might be just as easy for someone like Comcast to start their own tour and call it the VPT, Versus Pool tour and not have the debt, the Name IPT has very little value to it, the structure of the IPT is the only thing that seems to be good, IE: 150 players, round robin, tour players only like the PGA, opens, qualifiers, lots of stats to follow, records, end of year KOTH...etc

Well as for me, I have been paid every time. I have a brand new kitchen thanks to the IPT along with a new patio, flooring throughout my home....AND the kicker.............I never one a match!
I chose to NOT get my check in Vegas; it was mailed to me a few weeks later. I never thought twice about it, because it wasn't a lot of money you may be thinking.....maybe. But what ever the case, I have received EVERY penny I was told I would get.
KT mentioned many things during the players meeting, if you want to know what is really going on.................order today............get first hand information
straight from the man himself.
I have 1 more tournament and I am looking forward to going and of course once again cashing my check.............hmmm what to buy next?

Hello, Ms. Dodson. Thank you for the autograph in Orlando. It was very nice to meet you and all the other HOFamers. Best of luck in Chicago.:)

It has been good to see 8-ball taking centre stage in my opinion and the website has been absolutely fantastic. I think the real-time coverage was sensational and whatever happens in future, perhaps other tours and organizers can take note and learn something in that department at least.

I have to give full credit too for the format. It really does ensure that the cream rises to the top and I would go as far as to say it is the best format I have come across in any cue sports event.

I think it has been very educational for me, as an outsider to American-style 8 ball, to learn a lot about the game itself and to see some of the great names of pool shaping up against players I know from the UK. I think the international aspect of this competition has been a major plus. The fact that Kevin Trudeau specifically invited UK 8-ball players, as opposed to snooker players or UK 9-ball players, made a big difference.

Add the brilliant Filipino players and European stalwarts into the mix and nobody can complain about the level of competition on offer in the IPT. Only the absence of the top Chinese/Taipei players slightly lessened its global impact, and even the much-vaunted Wu showed up eventually to redress that slightly.

Robin, will you be just as enthusiastic about the IPT if you get paid but others do not? Some people have been owed money for months, with lots of promises but no payments.

That's kinda stupid, of course she isn't happy others have not been paid, she's trying to stay upbeat about the IPT, and I know she hopes everyone gets paid, for them as well as the future of the IPT. She doesn't have to be all negative or gloomy due to the current problems.
