Yes, I am quite aware that your use of the term "police state" was an analogy. My response was sarcastic...which is a form of humor that appears to be above your banal mentality.

But that term connotes an arrogant and dispicable ruling elite and using that term to criticize the management of this business is grossly insulting while being patently incorrect.

Forum segmentation by subject matter is not "repressive" but rather systematic. But you don't seem to understand that concept so let me help you.

This is the AZ Billiards web site so there is your FIRST CLUE...it is here to foster BILLIARDS.

However, while the pool-related forums number some three dozen, the management has seen fit to further expand the attraction of the entity by providing ONE forum quite specifically and discriptively entitled NON-POOL RELATED....that is CLUE #2.

Each and every one of the three dozen other forums are related to pool which is self-evident in their titles. But just to be SURE that you realize that the pool related forums are for pool related subject matter, they named that ONE other forum NON-POOL RELATED.

Behaving FAR, FAR differently from a repressive police state, the moderators have only loosely enforced..not STRICTLY enforced the matter of non-pool related subjects appearing in the main forum.

But they, as is their fundamental RIGHT, finally decided...and numerous posters to this thread have agreed...that non-pool related posts had gotten "out of control" as one member put it and Mr. Wilson simply gave us all a heads up that management wanted that practice to stop.

You might disagree with that decision as some others have, but referring to management policies on that subject as being the repressive acts of a police state was an arrogant and rather ugly comment.

But along those lines, at least you are consistent.

I agree. But since those animations appear in the text area, constituted his entire post and are clearly non-pool related, possibly he is just taunting Mr. Wilson which I don't think is a particularly good idea.

Okay, without getting negative - We really DO have a special thing here. I participated on rsb and ccb and honestly, they don't even come close to what azb has to offer. The reason for this is simply the membership. However, it's important that we try and stay with the subject. We're here to talk pool which shouldn't be terribly hard to do. What's more, we have to respect the diversity of our membership. We owe the group that. That means our avatars and signatures should be civil. Our language should be appropriate. Our subjects relatively consistent. It's okay to argue. I know I get into plenty. However, it's not okay to turn azb into trashy street corner talk. We're huge now. Everyone is talking about us and it's great. What we have to say actually means something. We are a source of inspiration for the industry and that is by far the greatest thing azb could have accomplished. Let's try to keep it that way and continue our growth. I honestly believe as great as it is now, it could be much greater.

Those are my thoughts. Shoot well.

then you complain that the thread in question is mislabled which I agree should not be permitted. If someone starts a thread titled "bottom left go 3 rails" and then you open it and its a bunch of youtube videos of barely legal teens crawling on the floor then I don't think that is right.

I'm simply saying, I think you took my initial post too personally. Although I did cite a few examples, I wasn't thinking of any specific thread. There's just been a lot nowadays. I know your lottery thread was all in good fun and I think that's great. It sorta needs to be in the main forum because you wanted to get all the members involved. I don't have a problem with that. On the otherhand, I recently went to a thread about someone's myspace page about drums. What can I say? Congratulations! Here I am, one of the more knowledgeable pool players you're going to find online ready to answer almost any pool-related question and you have me looking at drums.

I think anyone who posts a link to a Rick Astley video on this site should be banned for life.

Unless, of course, it is one of him running a rack of 9 ball. :)

I am going to give you another lesson today. Todays word is IRONIC. An example of that would be:

The fact that you are trying to cover up your stupidity by claiming you were being humorous... Is IRONIC because you have no sense of humor and were not joking.

The rest of your post was a little too boring for my taste. But your stupidity really spiced up the first half. And now I am going to quit arguing with you... because afterall if you argue with an idiot, you now have two idiots. And I am tired of sinking to your level.

I frequent another forum in my industry. It does not have as many cool features as AzBilliards. The forum is about one year old, but they have about 1,200 members. However, it seems only about 50 folks post on a regular basis, and I was one of them.

What I found incredible in this forum is the fact that the have FIVE -- count them -- FIVE moderators for this itsy, bitsy forum. I thought this was very strange, being accustomed to AzBilliards and considering the other forum is so small.

Every single day, one of the moderators moves posts from one section to another. Their NPR section is called "Water Cooler." They have a lot of sub-forums, like we do on AzBilliards. Any one of these five moderators has the capability to move posts, and believe you me, they do it every single day, and NOBODY whines and moans or questions these moves.

What is a problem here at AzBilliards, IMHO, is there is only one moderator, Mr. Wilson, and then there is Mike Howerton, who is the webmaster. For a forum this size, there should be more moderators, MANY MORE.

Mr. Wilson has taken heat on this forum because it seems as if he's the lone soldier, trying to keep order. I remember when he was a regular happy poster. I haven't seen a post by Mr. Wilson in recent times, other than a moderator-type post.

There should be at least five moderators or more here because of the size. That way, if one moderator is offline or on vacation, there are several to keep order.

I know this forum suffered a bad experience with one moderator in the past who eventually was banned frrm here. However, the need for more than Mr. Wilson and Mike Howerton is here. One moderator should not have to put up with all the crap on this forum, as Mr. Wilson has. This place is too large. What ever happened to the Chuckles moderator?

If one of the five moderators moves a post on my industry forum, there isn't a peep about it. The moderators are respected, all five of them, and they are also happy regular posters on the forum.

That is my story and I am sticking with it! :)

I am with Willie & see the irony in this post by the moderator.

For example - the thread about 6 inches below this one for NO NPR IN MAIN FORUM on my screen is Funny pic/gif thread... that has currently 79,109 replies still remains in the main forum because?? Looks like you would have to start with 79,109 warnings just right there. You won't have time to field complaints.

.

See, this is a beautiful example.

Regardles of the flexability I offer ( too rigid, too strict ) it is never enough.

I compromise and allow one damned thread to stay and it is precedent for a free for all.

I have said it many times, do you guys want a strict black and white interpretation of of the rules? a warning for every infraction and the third sees a ban?

Why is it when I am attempting to connect with some of you, it becomes a challenge? A game of wills?

It's not an argument, a debate or a contest.

People need to use that forum for whit is designed for as I get a wave of email everytime there is a misplaced post.
I simply don't have time for the petty stuff like moving posts that could just as easily have been put in the right area to start.

Add to that .....it annoys posters who want pool content only.

This isn't a virtual poolroom. If it were, the people who want to post NPR in the main forum would be the drunk fratboys on the table next to a high stakes game. ( in a virtual sense )

Please just cooperate for a change instead of creating a much bigger issue than posting in the wrong forum.

With respect, where else would he post a warning about NPR posts in the Main Forum??

I'll let ye re-rack that one.

(-:

AV84fun,
He definitely should post it ONLY IN THE NPR FORUM. The "rules" are designed to reduce clutter in the Main Forum; this thread is complete clutter.

Even though the mods started it, it still is clogging up the Main Forum.

Posting in the Main Forum is where the "action is"; otherwise the mods would have started a "Warnings Sub-Forum".....but of course, no one would ever read them.

About a year ago or so it did seem like you guys were really coming down with the ban hammer ... alot of watching and warnings or what not.. then the was a few months where it seemed like you had pulled up the stakers and left town...

Honestly no matter what you do you are gonna get greif.. best bet is to set a tone and keep it.....no wishy washy stuff....be predictable so folks know the bounds...

I think this sticky thread belongs exactly where it is, to give folks a pre-warning about posting NPR stuff in the Main Forum. Later, after everybody gets it, the sticky can be removed, like all stickies are removed eventually.

Also, I don't think the moderator of any forum should have to explain his/her actions.

Where is Chuckles?

There needs to be more moderators. This is too big a task for one person. It really is. I miss Mr. Wilson the poster. :(

I don't agree with you at all. Mr. Wilson is trying to set the rules in regards to posting in the main forum. It should absolutely be in the main forum. He wasn't addressing people who already follow the rules and regularly post in NPR. He was addressing the regulars of the main forum that insist on posting non-pool related material in the main forum.

No you don't get it - how can you threaten to give out warnings for NPR in the main forum when, as far as I know, the highest visible thread ever on AZ in the main forum is NPR. Actually, I could care less. My post was made to show that if you give out a warning to someone for NPR than all they have to do is point to the 80,000 reply thread & wonder why you singled them out.

And the 80,000 post thread is obvious the largest example of NPR allowed to stay - but there are plenty more & plenty of current threads. Again, I could care less. Just letting you know that for you to pick and choose the threads you like and let them stay versus the ones you don't (or more so, the posters you don't) would be ironic, to use a nice a term as possible.

You can do as however you see fit - you always do (even if Mike H. approves or not).

Lodi,
I was just kidding; a little irony here. I think we all tend to want to post in the Main Forum if we have something we really, really, really want the core members to see (I'm as guilty as the next). It is just part of the good and bad of having multiple sub-forums.

Since so many members have become friends, the tendency will always be to post everything of personal importance in the Main Forum; because that's the way it used to be - a virtual poolroom where anything could be discussed. We are too big for that at this point.

Sorry for the confusion (just baiting av84fun a bit:) ).

Geezus, you all have Willie so flustered that he is now stuttering. Don't worry Willie, I understood your sarcasm & dig at av84fun. Good luck with that as he will now analyze every sentence structure & choice of word you ever make from now til the end of time.

Personally, I think from now on the moderator, whether it be Mr. Wilson, Chuckles, or Mike Howerton, should just execute whatever actions they deem appropriate and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER post as to why they did it.

Actions speak louder than words. They owe nobody an explanation as to their actions. Any response by a moderator is done out of courtesy.

Mike Howerton will always be the ultimate authority, but Mr. Wilson acting on Mike's behalf should just move the threads, delete the threads, create stickies, and ban posters -- WITH NO EXPLANATION TO ANYONE. When he tries to be courteous and provide an explanation, there are always those who do not agree, and some go as far as to attack his integrity. This is not fair to Mr. Wilson, to Mike Howerton, and to the forum as a whole.

Ehhh.. not so much there JAM
There needs to be a line in the sand that is clear to all memebers...that protects the Mods from the second guessing of the GP... there by mamking the "job" alot easier on those that do it...

If a standard is set then there will be no questions or second guessing, it would plain and simple and expected...which is kinda what your post says, but we are a long way away from having that general understanding mostly due to the fact that the limits/boundries are really a wonderful shade of gray.
