Received this from Joel last week. The design was entirely his and I had no idea what to expect when I opened the box.

I asked Joel if he could do a design using elements from an 1800's pocket watch that I got from my great grandfather. Other than that, the only input I had was the choice of wood, and to use ivory, gold and silver.

Here are some shots that Joel took. I'll post some pics below that I took showing more details.

As always, it was a wonderful experience working with Joel. Truly one of the best guys in the industry (and in general, too!).

At SBE 2011, I stopped by Ron Thomas' booth and saw a 1x2 case with an embossed "Hercek" insert - reddish brown into black leather. Since Joel was using those same basic colors, it seemed like a great fit.

The primary ivory inlays are based on the watch's hour and second hands.

The smaller cluster is an ivory inlay and four silver "leaves", an interpretation of pieces of the engraving on the outside of the watch.

The joint rings (and also incorporated into the sleeve and nose) focus on the heart of a watch, the gears. Joel used gold inlays for these.

This cue is stunning- Period! I love how you incorporated the old watch designs in this cue. The wood is beautiful also, along with the case to match.

Yes, it was passed down from my great grandfather.

I love (and have owned) the traditional cue designs that Joel does. However, over the years I have been on his list I decided to tap his non-traditional artistic flair for this cue. I also wanted something new for inlays shapes and thought about this watch. Talking to Joel, he liked the idea because he also has a pocket watch from that same era. When my name came up, we (he) ran with it. I sent him pictures of various views of the watch and he used those for inspiration.
