To have a U.S. Open 9 Ball Champion & 400+ ball runner in 14.1 post with us is, for me, a real treat.

Can anybody imagine Kobe Bryant posting on AZBasketball? Or Alex Rodriguez posting anything on AZBaseball? They would never take the time to "mingle" with the fans.

We are very fortunate to have the likes of Grady, Billy, Freddy, John Schmidt, Danny Harriman, Keith McCready, etc. posting here with us.
I consider guys like Blackjack & Jay Helfert "pros" also.

That John Schmidt or any of the other aforementioned pros open themselves to the nit-picking and sardonic comments that they so often get in response to their postings, and yet they come back for more, says a lot about these guys.

I have NEVER heard any of my buddies who like football or NASCAR or hockey or any other sport ever mention to me that they were able to communicate back & forth with their favorite stars in their respective sports like we can here at AZB.

So, if it seems like the John Schmidts, the Gradys, the Keiths, etc have lots of fan support, it's because they DO have tons of support.

I for one appreciate the tid-bits of info we get that goes on 'behind the scenes" with the pro players.

Too bad thick skin is all too often a requirement the pros need to have if they continue to post among us.

After reading the post, I just wanted to pop in and tell MR. John Schmit
not to worry about Jon Kucharo,
He is no longer Known as "The Arrow Kucharo". He is not even alowed in the pool room he grew up in. He is locally seen as the person you said that visited your sponsors booth. (did he have a cocktail in his hand) Jon has found a new path in life,(drinking) but still thinks he can play Championship level pool. I can stiil ride a bike also, But Iam not going to enter any bike races.
Dont let the wolfin get ya down. Iam sure there will be plenty more at your level ( JK is Jealous) You will always be our AZ champion hear.

I think JS had every right to say everything he has said. JK made a low class sneaky knock move which deserves an apology which will never happen. Enough said. I think you are a great player and great for the game. I just was trying to address my opinion about the way certain things are handled on here and especially by people that are respected and well known in the pool business, but I guess it is out of line? I hope you do get him to play and if so believe me the window is open over here if anybody wants to bet on Kucharo!! You take care yourself and hope to see you in action soon.

When John was into pool, he would practice 8-10 hours a day. He also had the break needed to play and beat the great players.

I would think it was but don't know it if was ever clocked or if I heard it was. I watched him give Andy the 8 and sorry to my buddy Andy, it was no contest. This is when Andy was beating everyone else.

I found this post I made almost 2 years ago....

I remember one year in Olathe during a tournament, they used to have a 5 x 10 Snooker table there. Jon Kucharo got into a stroke contest with Larry where they would pocket a ball in the corner & then draw their cue ball back. Everyone in the building wanted to bet on Larry, most had seen him do shots like the jacked up draw shot off the end rail as another poster described. Whitey Walker pulled me aside & told me to empty out on Kucharo. I looked at him like he was crazy but he said told me it was a sure bet, so I did. Kucharo robbed Nevel at this every time. He would draw the cue back to the end rail and then back past the side pocket. The last bet between them, Kucharo grabbed a one piece house cue off the wall & still beat him.

I never heard of Kucharo playing one pocket so I have no idea of his speed in that game and don't think he can play straight pool in the caliber of JS (that is actual a dumb statement as not many can) but when Kucharo was playing, he wouldve given JS a good game at 10 ball if not been the favorite.

I actually have a friend that has a baseball forum (and this friend is banned from here). On the baseball forum, he has major league players, coaches and scouts post - most of the players do so anonymously though.

Man, are you serious? How much of an ego boost do you need? We all know you play better than Kucharo. One would think winning the US Open and running 400 balls would reassure a player's confidence and they wouldn't have to post on a forum everytime they get woofed at. I understand people (pool players especially) need patted on the back from time to time, but Mr. Schmidt seems to be developing a complex.

I didn't know this was between you and everybody else. I retracted the statement and John thanked me and we settled differences. There is no problem that can't be settled and I am open to listen to all opinions and have done so and proven so. Thanks for your input though. It is appreciated and nice to see that people do have some comrodity and loyalty on here and have proved so to John. I will admit my first post may have been a bit unwarrented. However, I think I made some valid points in those there after.

If a MAN and fellow player were to do to me what Kucharo did to John's sponsor I would not come on this forum to call him out but would drive to where ever that SOB lived and either get a game or knock his #$%@#$ head off.

People here complaining need to get a clue. JK went to his $$$$ (sponsor) and tried to screw it up. Thats way out of line.

As for the woofing --- its pool. How come at the local room people eat it up and at the DCC people eat it up but yet on here its not right. Besides JS will back it up and get in the box. Its like its a total BSer thats laying it out there.


JS -- You wondered why you were getting called out. Take this with you forever.... no matter what anyone says there will always be an opposite opinion and many times people take that side JUST to state it whether they believe it or not. JS is a great player and the more I get to know him the more I like him, even if he wasnt a great player he is a good guy. Being a chasmpion dosent make a person a good person, I'm more interested in the person the champion is not how good they play. John S. is both. all the better. Its tough out there I have seen it first hand this pat year, it was never eay but its worse now than ever, I hope his plan to do a weekend school at his house a few times a year pumps up his bank roll, I wish him the best. And the fact he comes here and posts is great, believe me some of the other top players come here and dont post. Me thinks he smells a paycheck if he plays his cards right. That's all. Getting lucky enough to be selected as your opponent or Shanes opponent in one of the Action Challenges is the closest thing players have to hitting a mini-lottery.

Getting "selected" to play in an "Action Challenge" is easy. Just put up the money and work out the details with TAR and your opponent.

I don't think it's a lottery when you put up half of the prize fund.

Getting selected to play for the IPT's $5000 is however sort of a mini, mini lottery kind of deal.

I am kind of bummed about hearing this about Jon. I don't even know why he would be fronting for Efren anyway. I doubt highly that anyone can afford to pay Efren enough to abandon whatever cue works for him, but if they could then I am sure Efren's manager has a say in the deal.

The flip side of this coin is when your fellow business people start courting your players. We signed a player one year and within a week after signing him another company - who was previously uninterested - came to him with an offer slightly higher than ours. This player has integrity and turned them down.

From what everyone is posting it is doubtful he thinks he plays better all around (1P, 14.1 and 10 ball) than J.S. Maybe he thinks he plays better 9 Ball since that is the main game that has been played by the pros for the last 30 years. It would have still been better left unsaid to J.S's sponsor.

All true, but also factor in all the free publicity someone gets, especially one (JK) who's been largely out of pool's limelight for some time now. More people would be talking about him if something actually pans out than will be if it don't. And with more people talking about him, it almost goes without saying that more guys will want to match up with him. His name will be back out in pooldom. Prior to this escapade with JS, I doubt very many guys were knocking at his door in Iowa to play large.

How much value goes along with some "name recognition" in the pool world? Especially for somebody who has been out of sight and out of mind for the last few years?
