Hindu's in Lowell, Massachusetts Protest Vote to Allow Billiard Hall Next to Temple

I see there is a big battle for Muslims to build a temple right next to ground ZERO. Actually oneof the planes landing gear went through the roof of this place. It seems that we have to adjust for them but if we ask for a bit back they have a fit.

We have to be sympathetic to all cultures tothepoint they can't do the pledge in some schools, even hasbeen talk about taking In God wetrust off ofthe money. What next? Are we going to offend someone ifwe don't share the pictues on the money with Bin Laden or the prophet Mohamed? I know this sounds really silly butwhen you were growning up did u ever think that you may not be able to say the pledge in school?? Just my 2c. It just is becoming unfair.

"When you have a barroom, you're going to attract motorcyclists and to have the motorcycles fly by when they're in their meditation and prayer services is ridiculous," said Saab.

How can you argue against such breathtaking logic? The man's a genius.

OMG. I think we've (collectively) gone over the edge. Who does what next to whom? Is that where we're at? Okay: The democratic candidate can't, or shouldn't, put his office next to the republican's office? You can't build a bar next to a funeral home? Fire houses shouldn't be near Cigar Bars? You shouldn't have radio stations near newspaper offices?

This whole debate is crazy.

Religion is always a touchy subject, there is normally more to a story than is reported in the media, we know most of them write and print whatever they feel like these days. I am not saying that is the case here, just that there maybe more to this than at first appears. The one thing I would say is that if the Lawyer for the Temple was was quoted correctly then the Pool Room doesn't have much to fear. What a genius he appears to be

IMHO what appears to be happening time and time again with people who move here now (or anywhere else for that matter) more and more appear not to be viewing their new Country as their own. If you emigrate to this country you must view it as home, you be ready to support it, be ready to fight for it, you must vote and you certainly should love it.

temple

Lowell Massachusetts? Did we miss the big point here?
Motorcycles roaring up and down the street in the middle of winter.
I don't think so. Snowmobile maybe.
We should have a law that they can't open a temple unless they provide shelter to the homeless because thats what were all about here in America,
helping other people.

In most forms of Hinduism cow's are considered sacred animals. Some Hindu cultures revere them as Gods. If they would out vote my pool room, I would open up a steakhouse instead and see how they like that.

Good point Non Smoker maybe they should open a Snow Mobile Training & Repair Center instead of the Billiard Club

I think there's some material for a stand up comic in this article! Isn't it just a little ironic that you have a Hindu temple in the middle of Lowell, Ma, that sticks out like a turd in a punchbowl, telling someone else that THEY don't fit in?

I'm sure their neighbors weren't in the least bit concerned when they first moved in ("Look Honey, they're bringing in a gilded idol of Shiva, the Destroyer!").

What happened to tolerance? What would Gandhi do? Get some guys together and go break out a few windows to let these pool thugs and bikers know we mean business? Whine like banshees at the zoning hearings ("there goes our property values...the poolhall has no golden domes")?

If I remember right, Hindus weren't big on somebody moving into their country and telling them how things should be run? How quickly they forget...
Next thing you know, these Hindus will be wearing pith helmets and talking about how to subordinate these damned pool players to do their housework!
Ahhh, the smell of curry in the morning...

Sad to say, but this what we have to look forward to in America. The Muslims are here and multiplying fast (same in Europe). They do not want to assimilate into our culture. Slowly but surely, they will try to instill their value system on the rest of us. Eventually they will make inroads into business, politics and economic institutions (already done). When they have a strong foothold, in maybe ten to twenty years, stories like this one about a pool hall will seem mundane.

You can call me a racist or whatever you want, but this is my opinion. Yesterday I went to a large water park with my grandkids and their friends. I was there to help keep an eye on the little ones when the big ones were going on the slides and stuff. As we all sat by the wave pool, a group of Muslim women entered the pool fully clothed (shawls included). Everyone else was wearing swim suits of course. The kids thought it looked funny, but even my daughter and her friend could not understand this. I did my best to explain the difference in our cultures.

I told Heather that she can expect to see more and more of this in her lifetime. And some day they may even expect it of you!

Muslims and Hindus are completely different religions. India and Pakistan have been at odds for years. I had a Hindu guy from India on my team in a pool league, good guy and a good player. They play mostly snooker in India but it is a popular sport and perfectly acceptable in their religion.

I know a guy named Harld Johnson who had trouble opening a pool hall in St Louis county because of opposition from the mayor and local ordinances preventing a pool hall which served alcohol near a church and they were Christians.

The issue here is pool hall vs church more than the specific religion. There are plenty of Christians who don't want a pool hall next to their church.

I had to laugh out loud at this... where have you been living argonath?

This is the USA.. "Money and the need for revenue" is the WAY of DOING Business in the USA and has been the basis of LAWS in tis land for over 200 years.

Oh, btw... churches have special laws just for them.... TAX Free subsidies NON-Profit intities. IMO, religions in the USA have been in arrears in taxes since 1776.

They need to pay their share... first, then they can have a right to have more special laws...

Know your history... or be doomed to repeat it..

this is really funny.

The question indeed is...

when does money and need for revenue trump laws and rights?

Thats why I put the last paragraph in the article.

I think a pool hall has a right to open next to a temple the same as a temple has the right to open next to a pool hall. The noise ordinance is a separate issue. To not allow the pool hall to open in a area that is allowed by zoning laws is wrong completely. ( and btw, to some a pool hall is like a church).

Don't Hindu's believe in tolerance,Karma and reincarnation, what is their intolerance gonna buy them in the next life? I dont agree with this at all but I guess that is my right just as they have theirs.

I'll leave you with a quote from Mark Twain about Hinduism; "It is a curious people. It holds all life as sacred except human life."

You have completely changed my views, I am now actively looking for Temple to come to my neighborhood, 'ah the smell of Curry in the morning'. Dude you are amazing, as an Ex Brit I can think of nothing better, you know the National Dish in Britain is no longer Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding, it's curry! We have to travel a good few miles for a decent curry maybe just maybe we can stipulate that the temple has to provide food for the needy, I need my Curry.

Tel you what We'll do a swap, all your Hindus for 1 boat load of Tamil terrorists

What they need to do is send them out to Saskatchewan when its 50+ below with the wind chill. I think they'll be happy to hop on their boat and go for another cruise.

Why, are they afraid of competition? Are the pool gods that powerful? No wonder I keep finishing second. I failed to burn one of my old cues as an offering:rolleyes:! Got to try that before my next event.

Most of the problems in North America are the result of an
unwise immigration policy of the North American Indian.
