How do you not get fed up with pool?

Here's how not to get fed up with pool:
Get married and have kids. I guarantee you'll cherish every precious moment at the table like it's your last.

I did not think you knew about that. My apologies, for not asking.
kids are way better than pookl anyway though, arent they?

Ive been playing pool for since I was 8. I'm 21 now. I play 9-Ball, I can run out racks easily. I started playing pool almost everyday lately. And well, there are times or a day where I play really awful. Idk why or how it happened. But I was playing good the day before, but the next day I played horribly.

how horrible? I can still pot balls, but I started doubting my strokes, stance, etc.

When i see a chance, I used to have a (im gonna run out this rack) thought, but on that awful playing day, I'd be like ("will i be able to pot this ball?")

And when I played that awful, I tend to tell myself I should play more to get back on form, but the more I play the more frustrated I get and my back, neck, feet tends to get sore more easier when I play awful. :(

Anyone can give me some thoughts or suggestions here?

Tim

Lol, I told my wife the other day that when I get home I wanted to practice my game a bit. She knows that this means that I will disappear for at least 4 hours and not take any calls!
So when I came back up stairs after only 10 minutes she asked whats up. I told her; "It ain't workin today, and I'm not going to spend the next 3-4 hours reinforcing a bad outcome!"

Sometimes you just know when you don't have "it" and call it a day. Sometimes you know that it doesn't matter and you have to work through it. Learning when to do what will save you a lot of frustration.

Winner!

If you play well, don't doubt yourself, just do it. If you know there's some things you need to correct, or work on, do so with a positive attitude. Confidence goes a long ways.

Try taking a week off. When you come back, you may be able to focus better. Personally, I find it hard to take a week off, even if I need to:rolleyes:

I played 18 months without having a day away from a pool table. In the end I hated the game but I got into a routine of playing around 50 racks a day. Ever play so long that you can't think straight? The simplest positional shots will take an age to figure out? That's when you know its time for a break. Best thing I ever did was take a month off. My game improved ten fold when I got back to playing.

Maybe you're just getting bored with the game. I mean after all, you did say you were playing 9 ball. What a redundant boring game to play over and over.

Give you brain a chance to delve into deep stroke. Play straight pool. Put down the paint by number coloring board and try your hand at freestyle shooting.

I couldn't play more than 3 or 4 racks of 9 ball before I would be bored out of my mind. Anyway, that's what I was thinking.

That mcdonald's prank is maybe even better than habba babba.

naji, I must say, I get a kick out of it every time you mention the 4000 shots in the hopes that someone
will bite and ask "What do you mean". Nobody ever does, but maybe once a year someone humors
you, then you get the satisfaction of saying "It's a secret" and it's like nourishment for your soul.

timothy: your mental state has a lot to do with how you play. It's hard for me to admit, but if I'm
a little mad about something, or a little bored, not really in the mood... I just won't shoot good pool.
I want to shoot well always, and it makes me mad that I'm missing, but sometimes my mindset is not correct.

Maybe you're the same way. I can understand if you don't play much because of muscle pains,
but maybe if you're honest you just don't feel like playing every day. It's ok to just stay home
if your heart's not in it.

CreeDo, when you experiment with pool for close to 40 years you will know things no one ever thought of even pros; it is the exact solution to what the OP, CJ, and many others are having issues with, no it is not mood, or mind set as i was thinking, now i play the same no matter what the mood, or how tired i am, bad mood on the other hand, will make you make bad thinking decisions. As far as the 4000 shots possibilities it has been explained few times, it is no secret.

Your young,,21,,if you find yourself in a slump Practise your way out of it--set up drills ,,Banks ,,cuts,, combos--long straight in shots from off the rail--do that until you own each shot every time and then do it some more--

Well, I've been playing for 4 straight months and always have been consistent and shooting good pool. But last friday, I had a soccer tournament, where I played 2 matches in one day, the next day my whole body starts aching cause i havent played soccer in a while. And from that on, I've been terrible at pool. I could barely control my cue ball and my leg somehows shiver a bit when I try to attempt a jump shot, or even to the point, i almost got a cramp on my right shoulders. Every part of my body just felt stiffs from that on. :((

Many might think I'm too young to be complaining. Well im 21, i considered myself old, grewing up playing with great young players like chang-shu-han(taiwanese female player), wu chia ching, ko pin yi. I played since i was 8 till 14. I then stopped for 5 years cause i moved over to canada. Now that im back at taiwan, i decided to get back to it, tho i already fall too far behind them. Since, I decided to get back to pool, I need to put full commitment into it, so i made this thread. I want to play good pool, its not a hobby. So those asking me to not take it seriously, sorry but I cant. xD

We all have those times when our hand/eye coordination just doesn't mesh. I went through a spell a month ago (for nearly a week), where I felt that I was shooting like someone who picks up a house stick several times a year. However for the past 3 or four weeks I've been shooting nearly lights out.

When my game is really off I just randomly set all of the balls out on the table in even spaced spreads and work on shot and position, until I get my feel back. In other words when it's not working for me I make my practice sessions easier because the hardest shots on the table are played on the space between your ears.

So, when I'm not thinking about trying to run out a rack (just taking one shot at a time)... that's usually when I'm running racks. But it all comes down to 2 things... CONFIDENCE and A CLEAR HEAD (if you already know how to handle a stick).

Driving a car across town is much more difficult than running the table playing pool,

He's funny with his "4000 shots theory" of making the game seem as difficult as possible. My favorite quote for this is "it's simple to make things difficult and difficult to make things easy". The fact is there's 'themes" and "variations" in anything we do if we know how to properly break it down into the simplest formula.

Trying to figure out how many pool shots there are is as impossible as counting how many words there are in the english language. Some say there are as many as 750,000, but it's not possible to tell exactly because of many varying factors.

The fact is there's 26 letter in the english alphabet and with those 26 letters you can make 100% of the words in the english language. Pool is very similar to this, there's only a finite number of shots that make up all the rest. Reducing the variables and choices will decrease this to a vary manageable number, and that's what I do with the Touch of Inside System, reduce variables.

I only use 4 main "target spots" on the cue ball with 4 variations, so that's 16 total contact spots. Only using these 16 spots and 3 different shot speeds I can create any shot that I need exept specialty shots like masse's, jump shots, and extreme draw and follow shots (that rarely come up).

This means I only use 48 total shots to play most of the game with and I can play all the game with these shots if I change my stategy slightly.

This is why it's important to understand the formula of pool and this takes away the misconception that you have to learn thousands of shots. If you're new to pool and people are telling you how difficult it is and how there's thousands of shots please don't buy into this, it's their reality, but it's not true for everyone.

I was running racks on a 9' table when I was 9 years old, I will assure you the game's much easier than most players "real eyes". I have friends that can run the table one handed, behind their back, with a "jump cue" and even with a broom stick so it's ludicrous for me to think the game's that difficult.

Driving a car across town is much more difficult than running the table playing pool, however, if you're doing things incorrectly you're using all your "mental horsepower" to correct mistakes instead of doing the correct routine. The game is to be enjoyed, not to aganize over, it's much more diffiicult to play the game poorly than play the game well.

If you have any questions on the "48 shots" and need some solid direction for your game email me and I'll answer any pool related questions - thegameistheteacher@gmail.com

Now that League is over, I've actually become "interested"
in Pool again. No more Drunks, Dopers, Dipshits, & Degenerates !

What a refreshing change of pace to (now) play with serious (and talented)
persons who want to play Pool for love of the game and not mainly to get
obnoxiously drunk, stoned, hook up with trolling Bar Skanks, or "all
of the above".

If you want to be at your best at pool, I would suggest you don't play on days where you are worn out after playing all these other sports. If you want to play seriously on a given day, relax a little, the go hit some balls. I know if I'm tired, I don't play well. Most folks don't.

OH GOD, CJ is back!!!! truthfully your TOI system is good (i know why it is good) but i do not use it; as far as the 4000 shots possibilities, it is not random number i came up with, there is at least 400 pages of notes and discoveries, and hard work of how that number is derived; the good thing is the simplicity how to learn it and how it puts everything (i mean everything) about pool physics in the palm of your hand; the purpose of the 4000 shots is to make one consistent not just learn how to shoot. You keep saying pool is simple sure 70-80% of shots in the game are easy to make with TOI, with 4000 shot system, any system no need to stress or think, it is the 30% of shots that need to be made consistently to show experience and knowledge; those 30% is why many people loose or win the game, and unfortunately at times TOI or any other system do not work for them; only the comprehensive 4000 shot system will give you the best chance at them and frankly it is best for snooker game than pool.

I'm listening, care to explain? Or is it a secret? When someone makes wild claims and then doesn't provide proof it makes it sound like there is substance to the story.

When examining claims made that reference #s, the first obvious indicator that the # is crap, is if that # ends in '00'.

'000' would thus be 10x more crap.

Naji- I guarantee there is no list one individual has compiled on AZB that contains 4000 items. You are going to have to show us a bit of substance here.

I hate to say it B/C the OP may feel like he's been here, dunn that (sorry).:grin-square:

Arnold Schwarzenegger has "6 Rules of life" ; he started with nothing, and look where his will to live HIS LIFE took him :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5j0C2ceZjU

YOU (the OP) are stuck on #5 , and thats not bad, BUT it is not the only rule.

I don't credit Arnold for being the most intelligent person, but his life proves his rules accurate.
BEST to you !

Everybody deals with off days. I've had bad weeks before. They come and they go.Just work on fundamentals.

Pure gold! No salesmanship just good advice!

Taking time off is ignoring the problem. A stay of execution. When you start back after a lay off your mind is clear so you perform better. That is until your lack of fundamentals bites you in the ass again. Then you are right back to square one.

I played in comfort for many years and did so knowingly. Pool was my hobby. Today I want more from it. I grind on fundamentals then grind some more. Don't care if I reach my goals just want to stay in pursuit of perfection!

Good luck young man!

Ken
