How expensive is your daily player

my cues

I've used an inexpensive custom sneaky pete for many years. I just upgraded to a very solid hitting Vollmer. Vollmer is a German cuemaker that trained in the US. The points are deep knifed into both the forearm and handle sections to solidify and stabilize both dowels. I'm not supposed to say the price since I got a little bit of a deal, but I will say it was between 1000-2000 Euros.

I play an older Predator 314-5. It is valued around 1k new. I just had it refinished to prefection by Don Broos (DB CustomCues) and a great stack leather wrap on it. I have two Z2 shafts for it. I value it around 1500. I have a Predator BK (300) and an awesome new jump cue from DB that is a match to my Predator 314-5 player!

I have an "expensive" omen custom cue and I use it daily. All my other cues have been retired to the home poolroom. Whats the use of having something nice and not using it?
Does it make me a better player, hmmm the jury is still out, but I like it, it hits well and it's purty.
it's the purtiest cue in the room(lol).................jeremy

I play with a schon and ob-1. Been thinking of getting a plain jane cue to be left in the car, but budget doesn't allow me to get one.

I used to play with a collectable SW w/6 long points, no wrap and is on the cover of the first Blue Book. It got too valuable so now I put it up and play with a Sailor that I really like almost as well as the SW.... maybe just as well.

A Viking that cost about $120. Anything more would be like putting a dress on a pig. Or maybe putting an elevator in an outhouse.

I tend to agree. I bought my first cue in 1968. It is either an Adam's or a Palmer with no points. Prior to that I just used house cues. In the late 70s or early 80's I bought a few Meucci cues. I play B+ speed which isn't bad for a weekend warrior who mainly likes straight pool. I'm very comfortable with the Meucci. Looking them up now they have appreciated in value to about 500 bucks. More than I'd want to pay.

I think its all what you get used to. Some of my buddies have expensive cues. I call them Porche cues, ya know ...a Porche is a Volkswagon with a tuxedo. :)

I have one friend who can consistantly play A+ speed with an old Palmer sneaky pete cue.

I think the best bet in buying a cue is #1 your budget, #2 visiting a store that has many different mfgs cues in stock so you can hold and sometimes even try them without chalk.

Balance, weight and shaft thinkness are important. Changing a tip on a cue can and will make it play ENTIRELY different so as long as you have the things you can't easily change the way you want them, I think you are off to a good start in selecting.

One man's 100 bucks is another man's fortune, so it all depends.

I play with two Bob Hunter cues $3000 60"and the other $4000 57". I have owned three other cues from Bob and love them all Very consistant hit. All of them are ebony nose cues except one was maple nose one of his early 60" cues and played a little softer but was still a great cue.

Just my 2c.

Different month different cue. Can't just leave 'em hanging on the wall. :) Generally I'm playing with my $1200 Webb, my $1200 Tucker, or my $550 Madison Bob. I'll play with my other cues now and again, but I always come back to one of these 3. Right now it is the Webb.

Do I think a custom cue helps? Yes, but I figure beyond 300-500, I'm buying something other than playability.

I have a large collection of custom cues. During the competitive months ie: October through March I play with a Scruggs Phantom. The summer months when I just knock balls around for fun I rotate all the cues to give them a proper workout. It's a lot of fun that way.

I bought my Nitti used right here on AZ for a little under 6 bucks.

OK Guys... I really need the line ya'll have for gettting customs for really cheap. Can you help a brother out? :D

I play with an all ebony Bluegrass lately with silver, ivory, ebony ringwork. I think it is worth about $1500.

for me cues are all about playabillity, so i play with every cue i own or owned, for the last 7 years my daily player was an bem ebony floating points bludworth custom cue that i paid ca. 1000$ new.
i just bought a used plain jane bem bluegrass with ringwork for 950$ and this will be my daily player, because i bought the bluegrass for its playabillity and hit.

I'm banging balls with a Sugartree SP from Eric Crisp. Excellent player. Cost me $350 and worth every penny.

Thats a good price nowadays for a sugartree, you own it a little time , don`t you?
i would buy one also, but i live in germany and its hard to gat good customcues over here and i wanted a cue with 2 shafts and all the sugartrees i saw were only with one shaft.

Wayne Robinson Custom 4-point - $375

Wayne Robinson Custom J/B - under $300

I don't feel I'm anywhere near the talent to play with a $3k cue, and I don't have the big dollars to collect them either. I like the value you can get in the $2-500 range, especially with Wayne, Ratcues, and some of the other custom guys at solid, entry-level prices...

my two cents...

At home I use my Scruggs $1500.00 +. When out and about, tournaments and such, I use my Schon & Diveney J/B 1000.00 + for the pair. I am currently waiting on a new Diveney playing $???????cue that should be here in a couple of weeks. Who knows  the wife may take the raines of the Schon now that Ryan aka "Rat" got a hold of it and worked his magic.
