I actually won a tournament!

It's just our little local 8-ball tournament (16 players). We handicap by "number of games you need to win"; I'm a seven handicap; most of the players are 5s and 6s; lots of 7s and three 8s.

I won the Loser's Bracket by beating an 8-handicap 7 to 4. Today I beat the winner of the Winner's Bracket (also an 8) 7 to 5. Oops, I think my handicap might be going up.

(Our tournaments are very informal. We've only got one table so players schedule their matches whenever they can; this tournament took 4 weeks to complete)

Since most of you have quit reading this by now, I can admit what as improved my game: looking at the object ball last. In the "Which To Look at Last" debate I've always focused on the CB because arthritis in my neck doesn't allow me to raise my head enough to see the object ball. But in the last 8 weeks I've done a lot of neck exercises and lowered my stance by crouching down (yes, I'm sure it looks funny). Focusing on the object ball has made a big difference.

Anyway, many thanks to all the AZers whose advice and encouragement has helped me win this $36! Drinks are on me

Congrats on the win, and on being a little more limber. I hope you're feeling better.

On the subject of sighting, driving a car and looking at the hood ornament is also a bad idea.

congrats! on your fine win. Savor your Victory!

Congrats on your win, and the "revelations" that lead up to it! It is these micro-discoveries (which actually are huge) that keep us going in this sport!

I remember my first tournament win, after goodness knows how many runners up positions.. Fantastic feeling. It was an English 8 ball tournament and I broke and cleared the rack at hill hill. Spectators clapping and cheering. It was £300 to the winner, showing that it was quite a bog field and a decent affair..

An amazing buzz. I won a 9 ball tournament the same year..

Only just restarted after about a 5 year break. Loving it again..

Congratulations. It is really cool when you learn something new and it works. Hope that you win many more.

I would guess that all that exercise helped reduced the arthritis pain and that has to make your whole life better. Talk about a win - win, good for you.
