I heard a rumor and I hope it is true.

First of all I went to the Galveston tournament last year and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I like the Rhone brothers and Louis Vichio and I really appreciated their efforts. I was playing pool tonight in a Houston area room (I played like crap but that's another story) and I struck up a conversation with the room owner. He told me that he heard that the organizers of the Galveston event were not going to have the tournament at Moody gardens this year. He tells me that they are buying an old grocery store on I 45 (Gulf Freeway) in south Houston and turning it in to a huge room that will be designed to host big tournaments.

Please do not report this as fact. I am posting this thread to see if there is any validity to this story. I really hope its true. Any location along the Gulf freeway is a really short drive for me.

Didn't they lose their shirts on this event last year? From what I heard (on this board and from one other source) was that the event was a bust, and there would be no second Galveston Classic.

Can someone please clarify?

Did they even payout the top players?

I heard the top finishers got aired out.

fact or fiction??? Just rumors.

The fields did not fill up so they didn't pay the 50k first prizes. Also there were only a few spectators so I am sure they lost money. However, I have heard rumors that the tournament is going to be held in some fashion. The rumor I heard today is the latest. I really don't know, I hope a more knowledgeable poster can update us.

If they are going to run more tournaments they better get a trusted name to run them for them. I'm all for players having new and more big purse tounaments but I can't see this going too far if the same ones are going to try to run it again. Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on me. Johnnyt

I heard they are going to have a pool room on one side of the building and run furniture raffles on the other side. Gives them plenty of room to display everything.

If they are going to have another big tournament, I'm guessing it won't be in 2010. It's already too late to announce.

Thanks

Thanks, I'll make sure I tell Mitch to get his ticket for the furniture raffle.:grin-square:

thats some funny SH!T right there, glad I can finally laugh about the raffles.

WTF? BUYING a huge place for the sole purpose of having pool tournaments? I guess there are worse ideas but i sure cant think of one right now.
