I love Earl

I don't know Earl that well. Maybe all the naysayers are right. I don't care. I think he is one hell of a gentlemen pool player. The other night I played in a local tourney and got sharked mutliple times by a kid and than a grown ass man. Nothing annoys me more than an actual pool player sharking someone. I did it to a road player on accident during a crucial shot. I was sitting in direct view and thought I was being courteous by quickly moving out of the way, but I ended up sharking him.

Anyways back to Earl. I've watched a lot of videos of Earl and he has never conducted himself in a manner that would provoke me to strangle him, like a large number of sharking pool players. He actually is the perfect opponent to play pool with.

Watch this video. He is getting his ass handed to him by efren. And never did you see his shoulders shrug. He kept composed on and off the table. What I love most about him, is that he never whine after missing a shot. NEVER. Watch him miss the seven and immediately walk off the table to give efren his TV time.

Earl is a gentlemen in my book even if he wants to bash people over the head with a 2x4 for eating potato chips during his match.

I observed many of the same qualities as you. I myself love Earl, and always have despite anything he has done in the past. I think the man is just so competitive, he just flips his lid when he feels cheated, and goes about it in his own little way. The man is all pool and you really shouldn't bash him for that.

I had the pleasure of observing him play at the recent Gabe Owen one pocket and he was incredible to watch. Not once did I see him get out of line, he was having fun the entire time, and most importantly, he played lights out..... classic Earl. IMO, one of the the best pool players ever.

Watch this video. ...
One example. You didn't include the footage of him taking the situation's attention and causing his opponents to wait for him to finish before they could shoot...

He is one bad dude who has had hissy fits. Nobody gonna argue with that!

And beating his ass. Actually I cut his balls off....the 7 and 8 ball spot in a race to 3 helped a little bit. HAHA. CALL 7, ok. I didn't just heist the guy.

I did learn something. Everytime he racked, the balls would spread nicely and I would scratch. He runs out. routine. I'm such a sucker. Broke a headstring rule.

Do you know what would happen if its efren of parica? Both elbows would be on the table with a passifier in his mouth shaking his head in disbelief that he could actually miss that shot.

I love Efren to death too. Not only for being the best living pool player, but for the kindness he presents to the poor off the table. But I found a weakness, he sharks a little. Maybe its unintentional.

I like Earl too, but come on. NEVER? How many cues has Earl broken during matches?

I remember first seeing earl way back in NC after just buying my first cue. Walking into I think its called "breaktime", he was there praticing by himself and I asked him to sign it. I sat against the rail watching him entertain just little ol me for an hour. He loved it just as much as I did. He was a puppy getting his ears tickled. Can't blame him right? he deserves it for all the hard work he has put into the game. It should be an honor to observe such excellence.

Ask Earl where his assweights are & I promise you that gentleman act will change real quick.

Yeah but you put earl in the pits with mosconi cup fanatics. He has changed I'll give you that. He didn't break his cue due to a missed shot. That 7 ball miss is embarrassing. It was str8 in the side 4 inches from the pocket. It is a different situation than europeans screaming at the top of their lungs that you have a small c@$k. That would really piss earl off. The cue deserved it.

I don't know of this. But I believe that people like earl are easier to read than the ones that are intentionally nice. Because they are the ones that have an agenda....usually to have you pay too much for something, or sell you crap.

The kid that sharked me. Right after he threw a fit, I walked up to him and told him I won't shoot until he stops cursing while I'm down. If you walked into the situation, you would think I'm an asshole. But the kid was actually a potty mouth.

In my book, Earl is one of the greatest pool players in the world. Sure, I've seen some nasty stuff but I wasn't there and didn't see the entire scenario - so I won't judge. Some of the audience remarks would set me off too.

To start with,Earl is my favorite player attitude and all.For the most part when Earl is talking during a match,He is the 1 shooting.Earl has been through a lot of bad rolls and unlikely upsets in his LONG career. That in itself is hard to deal with.I know when someone beats me ,who is not suppose to, They cheer most of the time and I want to bite their heads off.But I hide it well mostly .Maybe that fire is what drives him,and any everyone knows when Earls on ,Nobody has got to like it

Whether intentional or not, Earl's bad behavior during many matches adds up to sharking. The most recent example was in vegas when he started gathering and putting away his gear thinking the match was lost as his opponent was still at the table. And, as you may recall, the opponent missed and Earl got back to the table.

To say he is "one hell of a gentlemen pool player", I believe, is a stretch.

That said, I, too, love Earl. Warts and all.

Without a doubt one of the best pure shotmakers ever.

Best,
Brian kc

I am happy to see this thread. I've casually known and interacted with Earl for years. Everyone, and I mean myself included, of course have both good and bad days. We all behave at times in a noble and elegant manner and at times self-centered and just plain wrong.

Earl is a strong personality who loves the game, has contributed to it mightily and is generous with others who are not rude or intentionally provoking sods.

Years ago in Manila in a hotel lobby Earl vented to a group of us and in particular was hard on me, a few months later he apologized sincerely about his emotional outburst. What I like most about him is his honesty. I may not always agree with him, but often I do. You always know though what his opinions are and he is not a phoney, but very real at all times.

Since he has been part of Team CSI, he has had the opportunity to travel the country, share his experience and knowledge and does so in a thoughtful and professional manner. This has been shared with me by many people who have visited him during his Team CSI exhibitions. His love for life and the game are true and pure. Is he perfect - no, but are any of us?

Thank each of you who appreciate his contribution to the sport and have shared your thoughts.

I have spent MANY hours with Earl in private settings when he lets his guard down. I wish I could share that side of Earl with all the critics who have a certain opinion of him and those who like him. You would be amazed to know how much he really cares for the game and other people.

That doesn't surprise me at all.

Earl is about the only player I know of that I would drop everything to watch him play.

Something that impressed me, and I'm not an Earl fan, is that when at the BCAPL event this past week, Earl was down on the challenge table All. The. Time. Putting on a show, free of charge, for any and all who wanted to stop and watch.

I didn't stop, because I was usually headed to a match, but he seemed to have the crowd in a good mood and was very entertaining.

He really did a lot, in my opinion, to promote pool to the common player.

It was very nice to see one of the more flamboyant personalities in pool doing this. Well played.

What I never understand about Earl (who is one of the SMARTEST people I've ever met when it comes to pool in general) is that he ALWAYS thinks the crowd hates him or that the crowd is literally praying against him.

Earl, if you're reading this.... when you hear the crowd get rowdy, it's because we're trying to fire ya up. For every person who prays against Earl there is 100 who wants to see Earl romp over his opponents face.

I'd sweat a Strickland match over almost anyone. I have a deep love for the man - the guy is a walking legend-phenom. I, for one, LOOOOVE it when he tells someone they got lucky (because they prob did). You may not like what Earl has to say, but the man is spot-on in nearly every case.

EARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRL!!!

(I love screaming that from the bleachers)

Well, maybe there's some story you CAN share? As long as it's nothing earl would object to of course. Everyone else freely shares the bad stories, couldn't hurt to hear a good one.

I dunno him but my impression is he believes strongly in basic pool courtesy. That ranges from obvious ones like not fidgeting in your chair when the other guy is shooting... to debatable ones like not shooting as slow as Ralf... to a few unfair ones like not getting too many good rolls =)

When other people break the rules it bugs him a lot, and so do his mistakes. It is fair to say his freakouts shark people but it's worth something that it's not on purpose and he's capable of holding it back against the ones he really respects. If you don't break the unwritten rules with him, he's as polite as anyone you could ask for. Even after missing a ball.

I really enjoyed watching Earl in Valley Forge and the several times I have seen him on TAR streaming or YouTube.

I have also seen Joe Rogan's Earl routine many times. I admit I am a relative newbie about pool and I have a question about that video.

What exactly is Joe talking about when he referred to "ass weights" and "bee keepers outfit"? TimKrazyMon also referred to ass weights in an earlier post.

I saw that Earl was wearing some kind of neck or shoulder harness/brace under his shirt in Valley Forge. Does that have something to do with the bee keepers outfit that Joe mentioned?

Thanks,

Ron

Earl is one of the greatest of all time.Like any human he has his faults. No one is perfect but i would always go to see him play.

I stopped and watched him at the table a couple of times. He was there quite a lot and I enjoyed it. He was very entertaining.
