I need advice!

I have now offered to send Mr. X a copy of my book, and after he receives it he can pay me. We'll see what happens. I do feel better taking the high road. Once again you guys have kept me on the straight and narrow. I do tend to stray sometimes. ;)

Way to take the high road Jay.. It will work out the best for you in the long run.. Have a great day.

A long time ago I delivered pizzas. You'd get people who would call up and claim something was wrong with the pizza. We just sent out a new one and didn't ask for the old one back, or for any sort of proof of their claim.

You're probably not gonna be in financial hardship if you never sold another copy of the book, but the principle still applies: The customer is always right.

The boss basically came to the conclusion that the amount of money he would lose by treating a customer with suspicion FAR outweighs the amount of money he'd lose sending out one free pie. Most complaints, fair or not, were from people who genuinely felt wronged, not scammers trying to score something for nothing.

Tramp Steamer's Mount Ararat

You still here? What's the matter? Is the anchor windlass broken on that rust bucket?

The Admiral

Yeah, no kidding! And where can he possibly float that thing in of all places... The Ozarks!! That is, unless, it's laying on it's side on one of the hill sides, and he charges admission to hike up to "Tramp Steamer's Mount Ararat". :p :D

Naw, it's the damn crew. I gave the order to weigh anchor, the other day, and one of the deckhands said he thought it would be around a thousand pounds. It's so hard to get good help these days.

No problem, I charge $20 a word for advice. I have paypal.

C'mon, man?! How do you know the complaints were legit if you didn't get the pie back?!?!

just goes to show that one joke is funny cuz it's true. "How do you get a pool player off your front porch?" ..."pay him for the pizza."

Funny but sad. It's hard for people to put themselves in the other guy's shoes, and a full time pool player's shoes can be especially difficult to wear.

Cool heads prevail !!

No matter how hard we try to do the right thing, mistakes happen. I recently bought a cue from another AZB member and I sent a Paypal payment to a non existent email by mistake. Thats a considerable amount of cash being held by paypal and I had to pay again so the seller could get his money or risk my reputation. I wondered what he thought of me when that happened. AND the he shipped the cue to an incorrect address.....but all turned out well without anyone getting angry. Doing the right thing and making mistakes can happen, just try to keep a cool head.

Jay,

Thank you

I would send him back the money and let him keep the book he has.
That old saying about history repeating itself comes to mind.
Glass is fragile, send books made from paper.

Anyway I want to thank you for your help on having the tournament to win the pool hall. We never did have the tournament it was sold.
Of course it was sold after all the leg work and $$$$$$ for attorneys.

When you are in town get in touch dinner is on me.
Please bring me a book, preferabbly in legible condition.

Thanks Again: SS

i bet you $20:$1 you get paid. besides, you handled it like a seasoned TD!

and if i had to guess, he was both 'honest' and also gave you a compliment since he would rather have the book

best,
smokey

"You can make some people happy some of the time you can't make everyone happy all the time".

My second wife was a classic example of your quip, accustat. She made some of the people happy, several times. The Postman eight times, the UPS guy five times, the pizza delivery dude twice. The rest of us she made miserable. :D

hey Tramp, can you send me your second wife's phone number?

j/k, but thanks for the laughs!!!!!!!!!

best,
smokey

when you learned of the damaged book.you reply no problem,i will ship you one out promptley.as far as the damaged book is concerned you tell him to tear 8 pages out of the book and mail them to you and put the rest of the book in the trash.you pick the pages you want him to send you.this way it only cost him letter postage to make the return.now the ball is in your court to treat him any way you want.

Interesting. I did ship him a new book today. I left it up to him to pay me AFTER it arrives.
