I think Shane got cheated by the ref

Ok so heres what I know and there is nothing that can be done.

SVB and Peach are playing in the World 10 ball and its a close match. SVB scratches and allthe balls are still on the table. Peach takes his BIH and lines up his first shot on the 2 ball. He sets up and gets down over the ball. The ref steps in and says "Hey the 1 ball is still onthe table" So Peach get up and goes to the 1 ball and runs out from there.

WTF? to me its the same as the ref stopping a player and saying "Watch out on this shot it looks like you might scratch in the side" and then the player gets up and changes his shot.

Am I wrong here to think SVB got cheated??

Depends, what would you want done if you were shooting?

If this is going to make a transition into being a more gentlemanly game, then things like this need to be more commonplace.

I know there will be plenty of people say no, it's not the ref's job, player should have been watching, etc. And to a person watching on the tv it would build up a good face/heel type situation, but this isn't pro wrestling.

If I happen to do that by mistake I would appreciate the ref or other player saying that I was shooting the wrong ball. I sure as heck don't want to win a game from someone Else's misfortune of shooting the wrong ball. But there are plenty of players who do want that.

Its already been posted,,but yes he was definitely cheated if that is what happened.

Everybody knows the ref has no business commenting on the play of the game.

And I'm sure the Ref knows he screwed up badly. They should have replayed the game, but that's not quite fair either. If he breaks again and runs out then Peach possibly got cheated,,although he was going to shoot the wrong ball. (might be more fair than what happened)

But then again he did not shoot the ball yet,,maybe he would have caught it,without the ref. lol

There's no way to correct the wrong done by the ref.

No matter what the gentleman thing to do was !

Yes the ref cheated Shane out that game which was hill game for Peach so indeed the match as well...The ref should never sway the outcome of the match like that without beling asked specificly asked a question...nowhere in any rules will you find it to say that he does...dont know where the ref was from but if he was from overseas a case could be made that he made a bias choice to influence the outcome.

Sorry, maybe I missed something.

If Everybody knows this, why is there a post with comments on it?

Wrong. The Referee is never supposed to coach a player.

A referee can tell the player rules if asked.

A referee cannot EVER preemptively change the outcome of the game.

If you want this to be commonplace, than it has to be universal. The Ref will have to tell the person shooting which ball he is supposed to shoot EVERY time someone shoots.

dld

I'd agree with this. Shane didn't get "cheated", but the referee clearly over stepped his bounds. It's not his place to intercede on behalf of either player.

Cheated is far too strong a word. It sounds like the ref got caught up in it and lost his head - happens to us all, and everyone makes mistakes. EVERYONE.

When I'm playing with my buddies and I notice them getting ready to shoot a wrong ball, I tell them.

In a tournament situation that's an entirely different story.

And now let's kick it all the way up to pro level competition. Part of the skill that you bring to the table at this level of play, is alertness. Part of how you play is knowing which ball is next in rotation.

I think the ref should have stood by quietly and if Peach hit the wrong ball, then call the foul.

Not being discourteous, just expecting a pro to survey the table and choose the correct ball.

Best,
Brian kc

Thank You for spending the time to correct me.

I meant to say everyone!

"Everyone knows the ref has no business commenting on the play of the game."

Any questions??? After all,,this is the line,,that everybody/everyone is commenting about!

Next time your in a tourny. just play the wrong ball & tell the ref to replace the ball & you'll shoot the right one. See how far that gets you. And yes,in a gambling match this might be the last thing you ever do.

This is a character post. Who wants to win on some nonsense like that? I mean it's a race to 9, not like dude was worn out or mentally fatigued or something. SVB oughta know what a stand up dude would do in that spot. You gotta David Alcaide that shit and step up.

If SVB woulda won because of that, that would be weak as hell. Super weak.

I once let a kid shoot a ball into a hole I knew he wasn't shooting the right ball...I figure I cheated for not being a sportsmen by telling him. If Shane knew and did nothing I guess this is the advantage he needed to win.

I let the kid shoot the wrong, and I dropped out of the event for being such a lowlife. But it was my option...

If Daryl needs help from the ref, is he a winner or not? Sounds like Shane was playing Daryl and his friend to me...

The REF was wrong. SVB would NOT have been wrong to sit there and let his opponent shoot the wrong ball and then get ball in hand.

I personally tell my opponent if they are shooting the wrong ball. But I am not making a living playing pool as a professional either.

First of all the ref is not allowed to aid a player in any part of the match he is only there to call fouls. What he did to Shane is wrong ( look at what Michaela Tabb said to Shane on facebook) If the player at the table does not know what ball he is shooting he can ask a ref but that only happens in 8ball. That ref should never be allowed to ref a major event again.

I've made a couple of mistakes reffing, thats par for the course when you're a puppy. Never anything like this tho.

Why didn't Shane stop play and ask for the head ref?
